Nutro Pet Food Affected by the Recall
Earlier this year, many pet owners got quite a scare when they discovered that many pets had become ill and some had even died from eating tainted pet food. This scare multiplied exponentially as the list of pet foods affected grew longer and longer. The source of the contamination was traced by the FDA to a wheat protein that had been exported from China, and had been used in many of the pet foods that are distributed in the United States as well as worldwide. Many brands were affected by the recall, and one of those brands was part of Nutro pet food company.
History of Nutro Pet Food
Nutro has been making nutritious, quality pet food for more than 80 years. The company began in 1926 by a man named John Saleen, who bought a dog food company from a British businessman. For nearly 50 years, John Saleen and his family ran the Nutro pet food company on a primarily regional level. In 1976, Nutro was purchased and brought into the larger pet food industry with a healthy chicken, lamb and rice formula that appeals to retailers, breeders and many satisfied pet food owners. Nutro pet food is made of only the highest quality ingredients, so pet owners can rest assured that pets are getting all of the nutrition that they need in every bowl of their food.
The Nutro Pet Food Recall
At the beginning of the pet food recall, it appeared that none of the Nutro pet foods would be affected in the scare. The dry Nutro pet foods are not made with the wheat gluten that was a source of concern, and therefore should not be affected in any way. However, the company that has contracted to produce the wet Nutro pet foods has recalled a number of their wet foods because they were made with questionable wheat gluten. To help protect pets and give pet owners a much needed peace of mind, Nutro voluntarily recalled all of its wet food that could potentially cause a problem. The recall has in no way affected the dry Nutro pet foods, so pet owners can rest assured that these products are still as safe as ever.
If you have further questions or concerns about the pet food recall, and more specifically about Nutro pet food that was involved, you can go to the Nutro website or click on www.fda.gov for more information. The good news is that it appears that all of the pet food that was affected by this recall has now been taken off of store shelves, including Nutro pet food.
