Dog training takes lots of work and if you want to succeed you will have to set aside time every day and stick to a training schedule. Even then, you may still fail, especially if you approach things in a haphazard, disorganized fashion.

These six tips will help you train your dog to be obedient and well-mannered.

1. When you should start training your dog

Many people are in a rush to get their dog trained. They may have seen a cute little puppy on Youtube that is able to sit and shake hands or whatever, and they want their dog to do the same. If this describes you, then you need to take a deep breath and relax.

Dog training is not a sprint, but an ongoing process that needs to be paced properly for best results. A dog can learn at any age, but for best results you need to deliver training at the time when the dog is best equipped to receive it.

Experienced dog trainers will tell you that 12 weeks is the best time to start training, so there is no need to rush.

2. The best person to train your dog is you

Training is about more than just obedience. It also a way of asserting your dominance and leadership. In addition, it is one of the best ways to build up a bond with your dog.

But if you hand off the training job to a professional trainer you lose these benefits, which is why it’s always best to do the training yourself.

3. Why consistency matters

Dogs are very good at spotting routines and this can be a big advantage to your training. If you are consistent with your schedule, commands and approach your dog will pick this up a lot quicker

4. Only use your dog’s name for positive interactions

Avoid using the dog’s name when scolding him or giving corrections. You want the dog to always associate his name with something positive, so that he never has any hesitation in responding to it.

5. Give rewards that will really motivate your dog

Although all dogs enjoy a food treat, there are other rewards that are just as effective, such as a toy, a game or straightforward praise and affection. Find out what really motivates your dog and use it to achieve the best training results.

6. Never use physical punishment on any dog

An absolute no-no when it comes to dog training (or dog guardianship in general for that matter) is physically abusing a dog. Aside from the fact that it is barbaric, inhumane and even illegal, it is entirely ineffective. The dog may learn to fear you, but he certainly won’t be motivated to obey.

Dog training takes commitment, patience, and consistency. The points above will get your started in the right direction.

Dogs need exercise, and the activity they love more than any other is walking. However, many dog owners shirk the responsibility. Perhaps they simply don’t have time, or maybe they don’t realize how important it is to walk their dogs.

Others give it a go, but give up after being hauled around the neighborhood one time too often by an unruly dog. If any of the aforementioned scenarios describes you, pay attention, because I’d like to share a piece of information that every dog owner should know.

“Dogs must be walked!”

As any dog trainer will tell you, a dog needs to be exercised every day. Depending on breed, age, size and so on this can range from a short 30 minute walk, to hours of vigorous activity. But the point is that exercise is essential, and walking is probably the best exercise there is for a dog.

But dog walking involves more than a just leashing your dog and setting off. Some simple guidelines will make it a lot easier for you, and more enjoyable for the dog.

Here are a few dog walking best practices for you to follow;

* Walk when its cool, rather than in the middle of the day. If however you do walk in hot weather it is important to take water along for your dog, to prevent over heating.

* Don’t allow your dog to walk in front of you or he may get the idea that he is the pack leader and this will encourage him to pull. Always walk with the dog by your side.

* Always keep slack on the lead. Every time you pull the dog back you just encourage him to pull in the opposite direction. Rather stop, wait for the dog to calm down, then continue.

* Maintain control of the walk. Don’t allow you dog to dictate direction and particularly when to stop. Sniffing around and marking should only happen when you allow it.

* Where possible, avoid other dogs. You have no idea of another dog’s temperament and matters can quickly get out of hand. If your dog is small, pick him up if a big dog approaches aggressively, if you have a big dog just walk in a different direction and avoid a confrontation.

An unvaccinated dog may also be a health risk to your dog, so its better to be safe than sorry.

* Choose a collar and leash (or a harness) that is comfortable for your dog, but that also gives you complete control over the dog. Also make sure that your dog is wearing an id tag, just in case he gets away from you.

Wearing an identification tags gives you the highest probability that he will be returned safely. For the same reason it is advisable to have your dog micro-chipped.

* Lastly, enjoy yourself! Hanging out with your dog is one of the funnest things you can do, two buddies working out together and enjoying the pleasure of each others company. What could be better.

Getting a pet could be a fantastic thing especially if it is a canine, man’s best friend so they state. Getting a dog although is a life time commitment, they might appear all cuddly and wonderful when they are a puppy, and they quickly mature and have bad habits, equally as bad as an baby.

In some circumstances regretfully, pet owners just can not manage with a brand new dog, because of its behavior, or even their own working hours are getting in the way, and at times the cost. Not a lot of individuals consider the cost involved with getting this kind of a pet, the first lot of injections needed the month-to-month worming and flea treatment, insurances, and food. Nevertheless for those who are fully commited and comprehend that they’re going to be problems to conquer it may be a joy.

When a brand new puppy is taken from it’s mother, which should be after 8 weeks and not before, and placed in a new house they are going to be extremely bewildered. Not merely have they been taken away from their mother and littermates, but there can be new sounds and scents to deal with also. Allowing the puppy to investigate the home initially is important, just be ready for small puddles and maybe a poop or even two. They will not have a lot of energy to investigate for long, so making sure that the specific area with a bed is already been made up for them, so they are able to sleep.

The very first handful of nights could be a bit of a challenge, because they do tend to weep quite a lot, they have never ever been left alone previously. A lot of individuals make use of dog crates within the first few months for the puppy to rest in, and it could be a good idea to place this inside a bed room, where the puppy can still observe that somebody is there. Over time the actual crate may be moved further and further away till it is in the desired location that you wish the puppy to remain, for instance the conservatory or the kitchen utility room.

It’s essential to start training the puppy where to go to the toilet. In the event the dog breeder where by you purchased the puppy from was excellent, they’d have undoubtedly began this procedure of taking them outside. Make sure you take them out frequently and compliment when they carry out their own business. It could be very best not to clean away what they have done right away, because it will leave a scent for them, so that they know where to go next time. It could be very best to get a dog doors set up. Instruct the puppy how to move inside and out of it, with treats and lots of compliments.

Getting a dog door set up is excellent for whenever you must leave the dog to go to work, or in case you are going shopping. They can let them selves out to your yard, play as well as do their business, with out doing it all over your floor. There are lots of varieties of dog doors accessible to suit any sort of door or even canine you may possess.

By coaching a puppy you can ensure that they will grow to be a great canine and a life long buddy.

Puppies are usually adorable, cuddly and so loaded with life in their infancy stage. It truly is right now when pet coaching is critical – due to the fact, you will find, most of these cute, affectionate small characters is able to cause a great deal of chaos in the house – with their upheavals of action stuffed ideas all a consequence of excitement.

Pleasurable it may be right at that moment but when you waken to discover the left-overs of the chewed slipper, damage markings around the house furniture and pet poo to indicate the pup`s existence then it is time for its obedience check.

How would you go about house breaking your four-legged friend – just precisely the same while you would probably potty train a little one. Sure you’re right, it’s going to require time along with patience nonetheless all more than worth it down the road. To be sincere, the full approach of puppy coaching can be actually fulfilling and in addition exciting. There will be instances when you may likely end up being disappointed throughout the progression but simply the fact that you have accomplished what precisely others would probably see to be unachievable is usually an accomplishment itself. To have got a good obedient canine standing next to its owner (yourself) will make you pleased for being the particular canine’s master. Even day time walks are more fulfilling having an obedient pet.

In case you are likely to kennel/crate train the puppy, then make the housing to cater to the size of the new puppy to provide ease and comfort. Divide your dog kennels into two whilst the pup is little and as he/she starts to grow and then remove the partition. By not separating the housing into two, the doggie may decide to move over to the back of the pet crate and leave their mark right there.

The kennel/crate is required to be big sufficiently to allow for the dog to stand effortlessly and stretch. So long as the doggie can move around then that’s the only thing which will counts. wfcin99. Timing is crucial during puppy coaching – have a doggie record that incorporates a schedule and follow it. Work this routine around what is considered ideally perfect for you personally as well as your dog

Leading the new puppy in the crate is undoubtedly an activity you’ve got to carry out repeatedly on the scheduled instances you have recorded inside your dog journal. Prior to heading off to blanket street just take the particular puppy dog outside once again and let it have a little time to look and nosey about – put simply sniffing at every single space and cranny.

If you are genuinely serious applying this practice then the puppy’s desires should be restricted yet again around 3 am each morning. It is actually a superb idea to train on a catch term for that pet to relate to. Phrases just like (need to poo poo) are going to do the job. Whenever your doggie is actually by your side and paying attention to your directions it is then you will understand why this well-known saying occurred – Very good Doggy.

There are many good reasons why pet owners should question the wholesomeness and goodness of commercial pet foods. In 2007 after aminopterin, a rat poison, and other harmful chemicals were discovered in commercially produced dog foods, there was an enormous recall of many dog food brands. As a result of the tainted food problem, vet clinics were overwhelmed with extremely sick dogs, often not being able to do anything and thousands upon thousands of dogs died from being poisoned.

Even so-called “high quality” dog foods were recently discovered to have high levels of aflatoxin and had to be removed from store shelves. Aflatoxin is a fungi that can cause liver cancer in dogs.

The situation has caused many pet owners to question the quality and control of commercial pet food makers. Alternatives to commercial foods are being researched by many of them and some are now feeding a raw meat diet for dogs.

Of course, the commercial pet food industry is completely against this. Billions of dollars are involved for the pet food makers, and reduced profits is the last thing they want. In an attempt to persuade pet owners not to switch their pets’ diets, the giant pet food companies are trying to warn of the “risks” of a raw food diet.

On the other hand, major benefits of a raw diet fed to their dogs are reported by many owners. These benefits for their pets include:

Reduced or eliminated bad body odor

Vast improvement in the stool (fecal matter)

Less requirement for water

These are but a few of the benefits. Of course, the pet food industry want to point out that this is simply anecdotal evidence, and is not proof that feeding your dog a raw meat diet is healthy in the long run. They claim that feeding a raw diet has greater risks including that of bacterial infection.

While it is true that the evidence is mostly anectodatal, those of us who are nervous about what is going into commercial pet foods have nothing else to go by. The commercial pet food companies are certainly not going to fund any studies to “prove” that their foods are better than the natural food that canines have been eating for a millenia.

It’s not hard to feed your dog a raw meat and bones diet. Those who have gone beyond the hesitation in feeding raw are discovering that they can trust their own food preparation over that of the commercial dog food suppliers.

In another controversy, pet food labelling is very misleading in that they are designed to lead you to believe meat is the primary ingredient. Many dry kibbles list meat as the first ingredient, but when you add up the weight of the different grains and grain by-products, you’ll discover that meat is not the primary ingredient in dry kibble.

Raw bones are an essential part of a raw meat diet. Canines in the wild chew on and eat bone material; it contains vitamins and minerals that the actual meat does not have. We’ve been told many times that bones are a choking and splintering hazard – but this is only true when the bones are cooked. When bones go through a cooking process, it changes their composition and that is when they are more prone to splintering and becoming a hazard. A dog’s digestive system, just like their counterparts in the wild, are adapted to eating raw bones. The chewing on the bones has the additional benefit of keeping Fido’s teeth clean and removing tartar.

Despite what the commercial dog food companies say (and the veterninarians that are sponsored by these corporations), while the evidence is anecdotal, there’s a lot of it that indicates a raw meat diet is a healthy diet for dogs.

A great number of people who have got dogs really worry about their pet’s health and wellness. Almost all of these people will employ drastic measures when it comes to helping to keep their pet healthy and fit. Dogs are the most common family pets, and a lot of people across the world have them. Dogs could develop a skin ailment called hot spots on dogs. These types of spots on a dog’s skin tissue are merely scars or inflammation that burn on their skin and then damage the surface area encompassing it. There are two types of dog hot spots, one that will develop on top of the skin’s exterior layer, while the other form may go farther within the flesh. The former is rarely very severe and will merely make the skin color just a little red and mattes the fur. The latter is comparatively more dangerous and tends to penetrate deep below the skin surface and as a consequence cannot be taken care of as easily as the former.

By identifying the signs that the pet is displaying, you are going to have the capacity to pinpoint the specific form of hot spots the canine may be coping with. In the event the affected skin appears a little damp, irritated and the fur all around the area has got a matted appearance, then there’s a pretty good possibility the pet has the less challenging version of the disease. This can be treated by employing an appropriate inflammatory treatment and can be remedied through the use of natural remedy options. This can be taken care of merely by cutting the fur surrounding the infected spot and after that apply the treatment recommended by the vet. The other more serious variety of dog hot spots will penetrate deeper into the pet’s skin and there’s typically more redness and discharge coming out of the afflicted spots. Nonetheless, it is not as quickly dealt with when you consider that it may perhaps call for treatment that entails a range of anti-biotic inoculations together with day-to-day use of the prescribed ointment.

Canine hot spots often spread pretty swiftly and that means you have to remain alert once you see the warning signs. If ever you discover these types of hot spots, you may want to take the pet to the vet for a diagnosis and to discuss treatment plans, if necessary. You will need to be sure that the dog doesn’t scratch or lick its skin or else it might keep getting worse.

There are also some herbal alternatives available that an increasing number of veterinarians have begun advocating for hot spots. It’s feasible to use KY jelly and wipe it on the infected region and let the jelly to seep into the skin. Some people additionally advocate the usage of black tea bags to put on the skin as a more powerful remedy. Many vets could recommend you clean your dog by making use of an all-natural shampoo. These all-natural shampoos have the capacity to mildly cleanse the surface of the skin leaving behind a protective film that will help out the process of healing. Oatmeal shampoos are renowned to be great in regards to cleansing the skin, and at the same time, mildly restoring it.

The main reason ever increasing numbers of veterinarians are now endorsing the usage of natural remedies for dogs over more traditional forms of treatment is that in some instances, these treatment methods may well bring about unwanted side-effects in canines. Pups are particularly vulnerable to side-effects much more so as compared to older dogs. Pups occasionally find it hard to deal with the much stronger drug treatments and they can easily end up getting worse than they had been before being treated. All-natural treatment options offer a surefire solution without having any worries connected with adverse side-effects. Swift reaction as well as using the proper treatment options are the main components toward handling dog or puppy hot spots successfully.

When it comes to diversity, no species on earth rivals the dog. Our canine friends come in a vast array of sizes, shapes and colors. Not only that, but they also display vastly different character traits from one breed to another.

A lot of this is due to human intervention. For thousands of years we have bred and interbred dogs to accentuate particular skills and physical characteristics.

However, recent studies suggest that many of the physical changes in dogs may have occurred spontaneously. So as amazing as it is, it seems dogs have actually evolved along the lines they believe we expect of them. Now that’s what I call devotion!

Fascinating stuff, but there’s also a practical purpose to all this.

Say you wanted to buy or adopt a specific breed of dog. I’m pretty sure you’d want one that fits in with your lifestyle. If, for example, you’re someone who works long hours and has little time to exercise your dog, it would be irresponsible to adopt a highly active dog like a Border Collie. That would not only be cruel, but a recipe for disaster.

Likewise, if you’re an outdoor type who wants a dog as a jogging and hiking companion, a Pug or Pekingese is hardly going to fit the bill.

And there are lots of other things you need to think about too. Consider the behavioral aspects you are looking for in a dog. Do you want a dog that is affectionate or independent, protective or laid-back, calm or excitable? Do you mind if the dog is a barker? Are allergies an issue? The answers to these questions will help you make an informed choice.

Then there are physical characteristics. You may prefer a larger or a smaller dog. Well, it’s hard to imagine a greater discrepancy than between a Great Dane and a Chihuahua. It’s almost difficult to believe that they belong to the same species!

Another factor you need to take into account is the amount of hair the dog sheds. Some dogs shed enough hair to make another dog, while others hardly shed at all. And if shedding is really an issue there are hairless dogs, like the Xoloitzcuintle.

Trainability is another factor that should be considered. If you’re determined to obedience train your dog, then you’ll want a breed that is pliant and obedient, not the canine equivalent of an obdurate mule.

So if trainability is an important factor you’ll want a dog that is a quick learner with an eagerness to please. Dogs that fall into this group include the Poodle, Papillon and Golden Retriever.

At the other end of the scale you’ll find the the hounds – stubborn, obstinate and downright bloody-minded. Dachshunds are said by some (only half-jokingly) to be impossible to train, while some toy dogs just can’t be bothered to pay attention.

And we haven’t even gone into cross breeds and mixed breeds here.

But I’m sure you realize by now that there really is a dog to suit every person. So, what’s your dog type?

The Airedale Terrier is the largest of the terrier breeds. The ‘King of Terriers’, as it is known, stands up to 24 inches and the shoulder, and can weigh up to 65 pounds.

The Airedale is an easy dog to recognize, as the breed has a pretty unique profile and a wiry coat that is always black and tan. These dogs display the typical ‘terrier temperament’, which is to say that they are alert, active and ready to face up to any challenge.

The breed originated in the narrow strip of land between the Aire and Wharfe rivers in Yorkshire, England. The early Airedales were a result of crossing the Welsh terrier and the Otterhound. These dogs went by several names, Waterside Terrier, Bingly Terrier, and Rough coated terrier among them.

As the standard became more defined the breed was recognized by the UK Kennel club (in 1886), and became know as the Airedale Terrier.

By now, the Airedale was already well-known for its tenacity, hard work and reliability. Originally a hunting dog iot quickly made the transition to police dog, guardian and military messenger during World War One.

These are active, independent and highly intelligent dogs. They are generally easy to train, but have a decidedly stubborn streak and also become bored quite easily. It is therefore important to base training on short, very focused sessions.

In addition to their obvious value as working dogs, they also make great family pets. They are fun-loving dogs who love to be involved in family activities and particularly enjoy playing games.

These are generally healthy dogs who suffer from few of the dread diseases that afflict other breeds. They are not however, without their problems and are prone to hip displaysia, eye problems and skin disorders, in particular hot spots. Gastric torsion, also known as bloat can also occur and requires immediate veterinary attention. The Airedale has an average lifespan of 12 years.

Grooming an Airdedale can he a challenge, with the rough wiry coat requiring hand stripping. This job is best done by a professional groomer, although the owner will still have to give the dog a daily brush down.

The Airedale is a low shedding breed, so it is a good for those who have a particular aversion for dog hair. It may even be suitable for allergy sufferers.

These dynamic terriers are not suited to the sedate life. They do best with an owner or family who are able to meet their considerable exercise needs, and are most definitely not suited to living in an apartment.

As with most active breeds, they will look for ways to amuse themselves if they are bored, and this can lead to destructive behaviors like digging, chewing and problem barking.

Finding dog names, for your Airedale Terrier is an easy task, when you know where to look. My recommendation is puppy names hq.com, a site with an extensive database of dog names including 1000s of boy dog names to choose from.

In recent years there have been several cases where commercial dog food has caused severe illness, and even death, in pet dogs. As a result, many pet owners have begun to mistrust the pet food companies. Many would prefer to move away from commercial dog food, but simply aren’t aware of any alternative.

If you’re one of those searching for an alternative, read on. This article provides some guidelines to making homemade food for your dog.

It’s no secret that most commercial dog food is not good for your dog. Many of these foods are packed with processed grains which have no nutritional value and are known to cause all manner of allergies in dogs.

And then there are the chemical based colorings and flavorings which have been connected to all manner of diseases, including cancer.Even the meat that these foods contain is low grade – generally the parts considered unfit for human consumption.

Of course, not all commercial dog foods should be tarred with the same brush. Some, in particular the premium brands, are of much higher quality than what I’ve described. However, it is doubtful wether they provide the same level of nutrition as a whole food diet, so you may want to consider that for your dog.

Here are three quick tips to get you started;

Quality is important. Feed your dog good cuts of unprocessed meat, fresh vegetables and unprocessed fiber, like brown rice. Avoid at all costs, junk food, table scraps and highly processed foods, like white bread.

Remember that your dog is an omnivore, and needs vegetables as well as meat. As a rough rule of thumb try for a three way split between meat, vegetables and fiber. If you’re going to err slightly in any direction, feed more meat because protein is very important in a dog’s diet.

Dogs have a poorly developed sense of taste so don’t bother too much with seasonings. In fact, highly seasoned food may actually cause diarrhea,

Also remember that not all foods that can be safely consumed by humans, are good for dogs.

Just about everybody knows that chocolate is harmful, but are you aware that there are many other human foods that are dangerous, even potentially lethal, to your pet?

Onions, garlic, raisins, grapes, macadamia nuts are just some of the foods that fall into this category. Other things, like table scraps and junk food may not be deadly, but are just as dangerous, causing obesity and a plethora of related health problems.

Something else that not many dog owners consider is that giving bones to dogs can be dangerous. A bone that can be crunched up and swallowed may damage the stomach and intestines, while there is a risk of salmonella poisoning from raw bones.

By following the simple guidelines above you can quite easily switch your dog to a nutritionally balanced home cooked diet. You should, however, speak to your vet before making the change.

Probably the most important things to take into consideration for those intending on keeping chickens is the comfort of the chicken. It is a fact that comfortable chickens are happy and so they tend to lay more eggs. Having comfy chicken implies their coop is clean, meaning they are unlikely to get diseases that happen to be related to moist conditions like Coccidiosis and Botulism. Having comfortable chickens also means there is excellent ventilation and chicken are well spaced. This stops the spread of diseases if you have an outbreak. It is essential for the chickens and also humans to have these measures in place, due to the fact certain diseases like the deadly bird flu can be passed onto humans as well. As obvious as these actions may seem for some, other people could easily overlook them.

One way of doing this is paying attention to the details of the chicken coop structure itself. There shouldn’t be leakages into the chicken coop, even with heavy rainfall, and all holes in the walls ought to be sealed. But, there must be logically chosen ventilation openings around the walls which should be covered with a wire mesh and that must not let any water in. With regard to comfort in terms of ventilation, the chickens really should have a chicken run where they could stay during the day.

Comfort can also be improved with day light, meaning the windows need to face the sun during the day. There should also be external sources of light such as electrical lighting fixtures inside the chicken house. Heating is essential for the comfort of the chicken. There must be alternative sources of heat for example electrical heating units.

It’s possible to construct a chicken coop that’s comfortable for the chicken and cheap at the same time. But, you should be careful not to compromise the comfort of the chicken just to save money. One way of building a low cost yet comfortable chicken coop is simply by considering the material used. Even though it has been said cheap is expensive, when it comes to chicken houses, expensive doesn’t mean better. You should utilize quality used material – the best way to obtain such material will be from folks who are pulling down their structures and usually, they’ll give you the lumber free of charge. However, you should be careful to remove any nails, to do finishing for aesthetic value, and also to treat the lumber for water proofing.

You can also save money while keeping the comfort by leaving out what you do not need. The essential aspects of chicken houses would be the nesting area as well as the chicken run – anything else has no practical value. You should not construct a chicken coop that is larger than what you require. Each chicken need to get 3 to 5 square feet in the nesting area and 12 to 15 square feet in the chicken run.

Get the whole household involve with the labor to lower your costs.

Originally bred to combat poachers in 18th century England, the Bullmastiff is a massive, muscular, and powerful dog. During the latter part of the 18th century, poachers were the bane of English country estates, and a dog was sought to assist gamekeepers in apprehending them. Unfortunately, the dogs of the day were either too vicious, or too slow, so a new breed was created by crossing the Bulldog and the Mastiff. The resulting dog was fierce, powerful, but pinned the poacher down, rather than mauling him.

With size, quickness, agility and obedience, the Bullmastiff was excellent at its job. Ad to that its fearsome looks, and only a very foolish poacher would chance his luck.

Standing up to 27 inches at the withers, and weighing as much as 130 pounds, this dog just exudes power and strength. The head is huge with a somewhat undershot jaw. The coat is short, in tan red or brindle, normally with a darker face mask.

Despite its size and fearsome looks the Bullmastiff is a true gentle giant. These dogs are affectionate, loyal and protective and form strong bonds with their family. They love human company and are particularly good with children, although they are not really suitable for very small children as they may accidentally knock them over.

With any dog this size obedience training is a must. They respond best to strong and consistent leadership, and should not be allowed to take liberties in the household. Likewise, socialization with other dogs and with people is highly recommended. Male Bullmastiffs are very and may not accept another male dog in the house.

Bullmastiffs live a relatively short lifespan of less than 10 years. They are prone to a number of inherited diseases including canine cancers, entropion and progressive retinal atrophy. They also suffer from two conditions common in large dogs, hip dysplasia and bloat.

As many as a quarter of all Bullmastiffs will develop hip dysplasia at some time. Bloat, or gastric torsion is even more serious, and results from a twisting of the stomach. This almost always results in death, unless the dog receives immediate veterinary treatment. You can reduce they risk by feeding small portions several times a day.

The Bullmastiff is easy to groom. The short coat requires only a good brush down a few times per week to keep it in top condition.

The Bullmastiff may look tough and rugged, but it is not an outdoor dog. Their coat offers little protection from the elements and besides, they are sensitive souls who want and need to be close to those they love.

Fortunately, they are no problem indoors, and are so quiet, calm and well behaved that they are even suitable for apartment living. The proviso is that they will need to get out every day for a long walk.

Finding good dog names, for a Bullmastiff can be a challenge. Your best bet is to use an online dog names database like Puppy Names HQ, which has literally thousands of excellent dog names, including a mega-list of male dog names.

These days we are quite used to having cats around, but up until 10, 000 years ago the cat was unknown as a human companion. Unlike the dog, who has been by our side for as long as 50, 000 years, the cat, typically reticent, held back until conditions were favorable.

The reason for this is easy to understand. Cats are exceptional hunters and simply did not need us.

You may wonder why cats allowed themselves to become domesticated at all, and as with most things to do with cats, it was because it suited them. With the invention of agriculture, large storage silos were erected to house grain crops. Rodents moved in to feast on this bounty, and cats moved in to feed them.

Archeological records suggests that the first domesticated cats were descendants of Felis Libyca, the African wild cat. Domestication first occurred in the Middle East, where large scale agriculture originated.

Felis Libyca was not however, the only progenitor of modern domestic cats. Two other species, the European wildcat (Felis Silvestris), and the Asian Steppe Cat (Felis Manul) are also believed to have contributed.

One of the earliest bits of evidence regarding domestic cats is a Turkish statue, dating back some 8, 000 years. This shows women playing with cats and indicates that cats were already domesticated by this time.

Written records first appeared in ancient Egypt about 6, 000 years ago. Here the cat was highly revered and was believed to be the earthly embodiment of the goddess Bast.

After the Roman conquest of Egypt, cats were taken back to Italy and from there they spread to the rest of Europe. In Britain, they became popular pets while in Scandinavia they were much-loved by the Vikings. The Norse goddess, Freya is depicted riding a chariot drawn by winged cats.

However, by the Middle Ages, things had turned bad for the cat. The church declared them servants of Satan and they were were killed and tortured in their millions. Europe would come to regret their persecution of the cat. Due to the cat’s demise, rodent populations ran out of control, causing the Black Death, a plague that killed millions of Europeans.

Eventually the cat’s reputation was redeemed in Europe. By the 1600s, they were again gaining in popularity as pets. It even became common practice for people to make small holes near the bottom of their doors so cats could come and go as they pleased.

In Asia, the cat’s status had never been in question. They were cherished and revered throughout the Orient where they were believed to bring good luck and ward off evil spirits. They featured widely in the art of both China and Japan.

In the modern day, the cat’s popularity continues to grow. In the US, they’ve even overtaken the dog as the most popular pet species – a worthy tribute to our fascinating feline friends.

You put the collar on your dog and turn him loose. Regardless of what his job is, he runs via the forest like a wild horse, crashing via the underbrush. He splashes via puddles, rips via vegetation, and occasionally bumps into trees. Though he is performing all this, you’re chasing him down with your handheld receiver, soiling it and your self with mud, debris, and water. Generally, rain soaks your dog, your self, and your equipment. This is an average day on the hunt or in the field.

Being that you simply paid very good funds for your tracking method, understanding the way to properly preserve your equipment will safeguard your investment and supply years of use. Though your tracking equipment need to be treated like the sensitive electronic devices that they’re, most systems are made to be particularly durable. Some systems are water resistant, as well as waterproof. Most collar transmitters are entirely waterproof. Still, water could be the biggest threat to your equipment. In the event that the collar transmitter becomes wet, you’ll want to eliminate the transmitter from the collar itself, if that is certainly an choice. Allow both collar and transmitter to dry slowly, with no aid. Though the collar could be washed in a sink, or even in a washing machine, the transmitter need to only be wiped with a cloth to eliminate dirt and debris. Check the transmitter housing for any signs of damage or leaks. If you suspect water has penetrated the transmitter, do not turn it on once more until it has absolutely dried.

The receiver of tracking systems is extra sensitive than the collar transmitter. Though some models claim to be waterproof, most manufacturers will nonetheless not guarantee the degree of water resistance your unit delivers. Despite the fact that most need to be capable of withstand each day of use in the rain, it’s crucial to take unique care of one’s receiver if it has been exposed to water or moisture. If this is the case, use a soft towel to eliminate dirt and debris, and dry the unit thoroughly. Get rid of the batteries instantly and discard- batteries that have turn out to be wet can swell, permanently damaging your unit and posing a possible wellness hazard. Place the unit in a safe, dry location, in such a manner as to allow the back finish to tilt downward. This will allow any water that has accumulated to drain out without performing further damage to sensitive electronic items within. As with the transmitter collar, do not turn on or operate the unit once more until you’re particular that it’s absolutely dry.

Prior to each and every use, and prior to storage, your whole method need to be examined. Batteries need to be checked, collar and transmitter integrity need to be assured, and the receiver need to be tested each and every and every time prior to letting your dog loose on the hunt. Equipment need to be cleaned by hand immediately after just about every use: dirt and moisture that penetrates into the controls can severely damage your equipment. Batteries which are not sealed need to be removed from your method prior to storing it for long periods of time.

If you need to encounter a problem that simple cleaning and upkeep won’t solve, it’s critical to check your manual, and call the manufacturer. Though these systems could be used by just about anyone, they’re difficult pieces of equipment, and there could be some thing you don’t know, or don’t don’t forget about your certain unit. The most prevalent component to fail could be the antenna on the receiver. For this reason, it’s essential to re-fold the antenna when not in use.

If you take care of one’s tacking method equipment, it will supply years of useful service. Treat it like a sensitive piece of equipment, but know that it’s designed to take a beating and last.

Deciding upon the appropriate bird dog supplies is really critical.

The Brussels Griffon is a small breed of dog with a rather comical look and a personality to match. They have been described as resembling an Ewok from the Star Wars movies, and it’s not difficult to see why. These enchanting little dogs have a large domed head with a short muzzle, large, slightly protruding eyes, an over-bite, and a tongue that sometimes sticks out. Add to that a dense coat in red or brown with black face markings and the Ewok comparison is complete.

As the name suggests, the breed originated in Brussels, Belgium, and was first shown at the Brussels exhibition of 1880. The were originally kept as rat catchers and were particularly popular with cab drivers, who used the Griffon to keep their stables free of rodents.

This exposure resulted in the breed becoming more common as companion dogs, and as people became aware of their intelligence and affectionate nature they became popular pets. The Brussels Griffon is a happy-go-lucky little character that loves interacting with people and also enjoys the company of other dogs, and even cats they’ve been raised with.

They are born entertainers who seem to have a talent for slapstick comedy, and are also accomplished at performing tricks. But they’re no push-overs, these brave little dogs are not afraid to stand their ground against all-comers. They are very protective and make excellent watchdogs.

This unfortunately also makes them prone to dominance. You’ll need a firm, consistent hand with a Griffon, to make sure he understands his place in the pack hierarchy. If you fail to show leadership with this breed you’re likely to end up with dog who thinks he rules the roost and displays problem behaviors like barking, growling and snapping. This scenario is easy to avoid though, just give your dog enough exercise plus socialization and obedience training, and you’ll have a wonderfully balanced pet.

The Brussels Griffon is a robust healthy dog that typically lives 12 to 15 years. The are not affected by any major illness, although eye and respiratory problems can occur. They are also quite sensitive to heat.

Grooming does take a bit of time, particularly in the rough coated variety. The dog will need to be brushed every day, to keep it in good condition. The upside is that these dogs shed very little.

These are active little dogs and require daily exercise. Despite this, the Brussels Griffon does well in an apartment. They are very active indoors, as they patrol their “territory”, but they still need to get outdoors regularly. One other thing you should be aware of is that they love to climb, and can injury themselves falling from a bookshelf or cupboard. For the same reason they may be an escape risk if you have trees close to the boundary fence in your garden or back-yard.

Good dog names can be hard to find. The best advice is to try one of the online dog names, sites. My personal favorite is Puppy Names HQ, a site that has tons of excellent dog names to pick from, including thousands of male dog names.

Dogs are our closest allies in the animal world, but never forget that even your goofy Pug, or affectionate Shih Tzu is just one evolutionary step removed from the wolf.

For all our efforts at domesticating dogs, they are still very much part of the natural, animal world. We need to accept this, and adjust the way we interact with our dogs.

How Dogs View Their World

A dog’s thinking is based on drives and instincts. Their basic needs are food, a place to sleep, and a strong pack for protection. This means they need a strong leader – one they are prepared to follow without hesitation. This is the role you need to fill in your dog’s life.

The next key to understanding dog behavior is to remember that dogs do not understand words. This idea confuses many people because their dogs seem to understand every word the say. But, what you are seeing is merely word-association.

Dogs are incapable of understanding words, what they mainly understand is body language. They are attuned to associate action and reaction, so as your dog learns that certain actions bring reward he’ll be encouraged to repeat them.

As part of this chain of action and reaction, most dogs learn to react to single words, so he may for example learn to associate the word “walk” with going out, but most likely it is the “pre-walk rituals” – putting on his lead, for example – that he recognizes.

How to Think Like a Dog

The most important thing to remember is that dogs respond to body posture and tone of voice, rather than words. By understanding that your dog thinks in images and responds to actions, you will have a much greater influence over him.

Dogs pay a lot of attention to regular routines. If you always return home at a certain time your dog will anticipate and expect your arrival at that time. If you are caught up in traffic or otherwise delayed the dog may become anxious.

The reason is that he has built up an expectation based on his experience of your comings and goings. Based on that he expects a particular result. If that result is not forthcoming he becomes anxious.

How to be the Pack Leader

In the wild, the Alpha Wolf controls all the activities of the pack – when they eat, when they move, who receives affection. These are the same things you control in your dog’s life. By controlling when he receives food, walks, and attention you reduce frustration and anxiety.

Where does affection come into this? Excellent question. A strong pack leader knows when and how to reward a pack member with affection. Get this wrong and your dog will see you as weak. And dogs are great at exploiting weakness.

Affection should always be a reward. Give affection when your dog does something good and he’ll repeat that behavior over and over again.

One of the accessories no dog owner can afford to be without is a dog crate. This versatile receptacle has many uses, one of the most important of which is an enclosure for safely transporting your dog.

Before you rush out to buy a dog crate, though there are some of the important things to consider.

Size

You need to consider the size of your dog as well as the available space in your vehicle. You’re first consideration should be a crate that will safely and comfortably accommodate your dog. But you’ll also need to make sure that the crate fits into your car.

Don’t ever buy a crate that is too small, just because it fits your car. Your dog should always have enough space to lie down and turn around. Not much more than that though or the dog may “go” in the crate.

Ventilation

Be sure to buy a crate that has adequate ventilation, because dogs overheat quite easily, especially in warm weather. This is particularly important if you have a short-faced breed, like a Pekingese or a Bulldog.

Protection

There are 3 types of crates – the moulded plastic variety, the wire “cage”, and the vinyl “carry bag”. Of these, the hard plastic case is preferable for transporting your dog as it provides the highest level of protection.

Hygiene

A dog won’t normally “go” in his crate, unless he has too much space to move around (as described above). However, accidents do happen, and when they do, you need to be able to clean the crate out.

Fortunately, most crates are designed for easy cleaning. The plastic crates are usually very easy to take apart, then wash down and re-assemble.

View

Some dogs become stressed when put into a confined space, especially if they can’t see out. For these dogs the best option is to use a wire crate, as it allows the dog a 360 degree view and probably doesn’t feel like being in a crate at all.

Dog crates make it possible to safely transport your dog by car, but some are just better at to the job than others. Plastic crates offer the best solution for safety, are easily cleaned, and suitable for small to medium dogs. For bigger dogs, or dogs that become stressed in small spaces you can use a wire crate. This still provides protection although not as much as a plastic crate, so compensate by putting in extra cushioning.

Soft crates are not an option for transporting your dog as they provide little or no protection.

Almost all training collars needs to be fitted in properly all round a doggie’s neck having metal buckles. The collar for your dog collar fits pleasantly and not quite loose as well as quite tight. You have to be able to insert 2 fingers between the pet dog collar and your doggie’s neck. For a smaller canine you simply should insert simply one finger beneath the collar. A young puppy should start off using a collar straight away.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a small, affectionate toy dog. The breed is closely linked with King Charles II of England, who absolutely adored these dogs and is said to have given his Spaniels the run of the royal palace.

An the breed’s popularity with the aristocracy didn’t end there. Look at 16th to 18th century portraits of the well-to-do, and you’re likely to see a Cavalier featured.

These adorable little characters are just 13 to 18 inches tall and weigh up to 18 pounds. The coat is long and silky, and can be a number of colors including black and tan, ruby, tri-color and Blenheim.

The legs, ears and tail have extensive feathering, and when you add in the long, silky eyes are large, innocent eyes, the overall effect is most appealing. The tail has traditionally been docked, but this practice is no longer allowed in many countries, and has fallen out of favor.

The main difference between the Cavalier and the King Charles Spaniel is that the King Charles has a shorter muzzle. This dates back to a time when these dogs were cross bred with Pugs.

Despite its Spaniel credentials, the Cavalier King Charles has always been a companion dog, a role they fill to perfection. They are extremely affectionate and happy little dogs that just thrive on attention, and are eager to please.

This is just about the perfect family pet, gentle with children, good with other animals, and loving towards everyone. They are healthy dogs, but not immune to the congenital problems typically found in purebred dogs. Serious diseases that occur in the breed include mitral valve disease and syringomyelia. Typical lifespan for a Cavalier is between 9 and 14 years.

They are also prone to luxating patella, cataracts, and retinal disorders. You can minimise the chance of your dog contracting these diseases by buying from a reputable breeder who follows ethical breeding practices.

With their long, luxuriant coats, it should not surprise you that the Cavalier King Charles is a high maintenance dog. The coat requires daily brushing and regular trimming, especially around the toes and footpads.

As with all Spaniels breeds, the ears are particularly prone to infection, while the eyes can also become infected if not cleaned regularly.

If you’re looking for a dog to keep in an apartment, the Cavalier is the perfect choice. They are small and well-behaved and love being close to their human companions.

They do however require regular exercise and enjoy a daily walk with their owner. These playful, active dogs also love playing games like tag and hide-and-seek, which can be done either indoors or outdoors.

If you’re looking for puppy names, for your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, I’d recommend Puppy Names HQ, a site with an extensive database of dog names, including thousands of male dog names.

Burmese cats originated from Eastern Asia. They are in close relation to Siamese cats. They show for their people the key reason why they have been presented with a name meaning privileged, wonderful and superb visual appeal. Over time they have end up being recognized as fun loving and loving pets.

Actually being split up into two subgroups after being exported away from Asia in 1930 basically developed minimal changes to the classic breed. The American Burmese can include a stockier build along with a rounder facial shape. The British Burmese Cats are usually associated with a much more thinner, slender build with a more triangular formed head. Both of those subgroups even now keep anywhere between four and six kilos.

Nearly 20 or so distinctive colorings can be found but merely four are thought to be breed standard. Those variations are champagne, blue, sable, and also platinum. For a long time no more than sable could be indentified and it is always the most popular coloration. Certainly no spotting or no striping should be observed in the fur coat. Such deep colorings simply add to the gorgeous coat as it is considered incredibly satiny and also glossy. Yellowish or perhaps gold eyes are also a breed standard for these cats.

A major selling point of these cats and the key reason why they may be so well liked is how nice they are with small children and other household pets. They are wonderful family pets. Be certain to have them in the house, even though they do get pleasure from a quick ride in your vehicle. Possessing a really low level of independence suggests they must not be allowed to remain alone for too much time.

Even though they have got a meow which is slightly more demure and also considerably softer compared to a Siamese cat, they are really extremely expressive. Often being labeled needy, a break may need to be taken to help get some alone time. They have been referred to as the chatty Cathys belonging to the cat universe.

Burmese cats are generally compared to most dogs with regards to thinking ability and the fact they could very well be trained to go fetch in addition to play tag. They enjoy a longer life span, typically ranging between sixteen and eighteen years. A breed record is twenty four years old. Despite the old age, they have kitten vigor and a sense of fun throughout their lives. Medical conditions are generally rare however gingivitis has been recognized to let them have a certain amount of difficulty.

Finding yourself in the marketplace for a very good family furry companion, you are definitely looking in the right direction with Burmese Cats. Keep in mind that they are needy and need human attention. In the event you work many hours this might not be the cat for you.

Dog training techniques are really not that hard to understand. A few basic principles is all you need to convey. Communicating effectively with your dog is very important. Patience is also a virtue but must be used. Each time you try a new technique, it more than likely will not work initially. If after 10 times it doesn’t work, you need to try again. Your dog will figure it out. The following are some tips to help make training your dog as painless as possible.

Want to train your dog? You can start today if you have simple things like a dog collar and a sturdy leash to use. Another tool that is very user is called the clicker. Here’s how it works. Clicking this tool will make a sound that the dog will recognize as a good thing and not something bad. After you click, if the dog obeys, it will receive a treat as a reward for a job well done. This is something that’s done instead of verbal praise, as the click is something the dog will pick up much faster. Shortly, your dog will be conditioned to the point where the clicking noise causes it to respond. No treats necessary! You should, however, continue to give treats at least some of the time to make sure your dog continues to associate the click with a reward.

Handling an aggressive dog can be challenging. It takes a little bit of skill and to do something, you need to get control. Aggressive behaviors can be diminished in your dog. Here’s what you need to do. Avoid roughhousing, tug-of-war or other types of play that are likely to bring out the dog’s aggressive tendencies. Your dog could possibly become more docile through more social interaction with humans and dogs. Docile behavior in your dog should be rewarded every chance that you get. Finally, try to remain as calm as possible yourself, and avoid yelling at your dog. The reason this works is that dogs emulate those around them.

I trust what you’ve read in the article about dog training, together with also the particular info regarding dog care, is useful for your requirements. Please continue reading more so you can get added information about this subject.

Dogs who live with families should be obedient with every family member. If only one person trains a dog, the dog may not obey anyone else. He may recognize this person as the pack leader, and no one else. That’s why everyone should participate to some degree in the training; for example, have practice sessions where each person calls the dog by name. If everyone who calls the dog has a treat ready, you can quickly teach the dog to respond to every person in the household. This also helps a new dog in the family learn his name. The family can also play ball with the dog, and reward him for bringing it to each person. It’s typical for one person to conduct the majority of the training (though it doesn’t have to be this way), but the dog should respond to everyone in a household. There are many dog training techniques that can help you get the behavior you want from your dog. No two dogs are alike, and some learn faster than others. If your dog doesn’t respond well to a particular approach, try to find an alternative method. With patience, however, your dog will eventually respond the way you want.

Dogs are the most diverse of all animal species. Within the genus Canis lupus familiaris, you’ll find a dizzying array of sizes, body shapes, coat lengths, and coat colors.

The amazing thing is that all of these dogs, whether it’s a Whippet or a Mastiff, a Kuvasz or a Xoloitzcuintle, has a virtually identical body structure, as well as similar patterns of behavior.

It is pretty much common knowledge that all domestic dogs share a common ancestor, the wolf. Now, through selective breeding we may have tinkered with the appearance of the dog, but under the skin his anatomy is still virtually identical to the wolf.

Like the wolf, a dog has;

* A skeletal structure designed for running and pursuing their prey.

* Loose and flexible front legs with disconnected shoulder bones that act as shock absorbers when running.

* Heavily muscled hind legs allowing for a burst of speed off the mark, as well as for leaping on prey.

* Small, tight feet, with fused wrist bones allowing them to quickly change direction, even when running at speed.

* A cardiovascular system that gives them the stamina to stay on the trail of prey for hours if necessary.

* A tail which allows them to signal other pack members – vitally important for co-operative hunters

* Powerful jaws with specialized teeth, for catching, holding and tearing prey.

Other Interesting Facts About Dog Anatomy

Although many of the physical characteristics of modern dogs are due to selective breeding recent research suggests that numerous changes may have occurred naturally.

Despite the many variants in coat colors, all dog coats except black are a variant of yellow. Black coats are down to a mutation of the beta defensin gene.

Dogs have a system for regulating body temperature. This includes, panting, sweating through the pads of their paws, and a complex “heat exchanger” that isolates body heat from the brain.

A dog’s jaw contains 42 specialized teeth – 6 pairs of sharp incisors for cutting, two pairs of large canines, or fangs, for killing their prey, plus premolars and molars for crushing and grinding their food.

Dogs have a unique system for keeping their eyes clean, a top and bottom eye lid, plus a third lid that sweeps across the eye like a windshield wiper.

All dogs have 361 bones, although quite obviously, the shape, size and placement of bones within different breeds, varies.

When a dog is startled or defensive it may raise a ridge of hair along its spine. This raising of the hackles is made possible by tiny muscles that are attached to each hair shaft.

Dogs have a very poorly developed sense of taste. This is actually key to their survival, as a dog will eat things that most other animals give a wide berth.

Dogs have survived, and thrived, as a species for thousands of years, mainly because they have an anatomy that makes them adaptable to just about any environment.

Canine Parvovirus, also commonly called CPV or parvo, is the most prevalent, infectious canine disease in the United States. It is highly contagious and often deadly, particularly because current vaccines do not protect against all strains.

Dog owners should therefore arm themselves with knowledge about the disease, it’s symptoms, how it is spread and most importantly, what to do if you think your dog may be infected.

Although CPV can occur in adult dogs, it most commonly affects puppies and young dogs, by attacking their underdeveloped immune systems. Certain breeds, including Doberman Pinschers, Labrador Retrievers, and Rottweilers are known to be particularly susceptible to canine parvovirus.

The first indication that a dog may have contracted parvo will be a high fever, along with general lethargy, depression and loss of appetite. The dog may then begin vomiting and may develop diarrhea, which has a distinct yellow look and a particularly foul smell.

As the disease spreads it will cause severe dehydration and the dog may go into shock. The virus may also enter the heart, causing heart failure. It is not unknown for heart failure to occur months, even years, after the parvovirus infection.

The most common form of parvovirus is enteritis, which attacks the digestive system, specifically the lining of the stomach and intestines. This makes it impossible for the dog to absorb fluids or nutrients, and manifests in bloody diarrhea. Left untreated, it will inevitably result in the death of the dog.

Even if the dog does recover he is likely to be weak and sickly for the rest of his life.

There is no known cure for parvovirus, and the treatment is largely supportive, for example, giving the infected dog IV fluids to prevent dehydration. The vet may also administer an intravenous balanced electrolyte solution, while antibiotics are usually given to fight off secondary bacterial infection.

If the dog has severe symptoms, an antiserum may also be administered, while corticosteroids are usually given to dogs that are in shock.

One of the reasons that Parvo is so dangerous is that the virus is extremely resilient. It is transmitted through contact with the faeces of an infected dog, and can live in ground that was exposed to the faecal matter for up to as six months.

It withstands most household cleaners and commercial disinfectants, although undiluted chlorine bleach has prove to be effective in killing it.

While current vaccines do not provide protection against all strains of parvo, it is still essential for you to have your puppy vaccinated.

You should also be very wary of allowing your puppy to interact with dogs you are not familiar with. In fact, you should not allow your puppy off your property until he has had his full set of shots. Better to be safe than sorry.
