Sometimes it could be a real challenge training your dog to do the things you need him to do and to behave in a manner that fits into your household life. If you’re lucky you might be ready to get him into a dog training class in your area which will be really effective in helping you to straighten out problem behaviors. However, you may not wish to pay the price of classes, or you could have such a busy schedule that attending classes is not an option. You do have another choice, though, and that would be to purchase the best dog training book on the market.

If there is a pet store or a vet’s office nearby, stop in and visit with them about the book they would suggest. People working in these environments have regularly worked with animals themselves a large amount, or they’ve investigated the options knowing that shoppers are going to ask them about good training books. Often times they will have a display of books and will be able to sell you one that will give you the information you are seeking.

You may browse in bookstores, both locally and on the internet. The advantage to looking online is that you can take advantage of the feedback other dog owners have left about various books and how useful they found them to be. After all , simply because a book announces it’s a dog training manual on its cover, doesn’t mean that it is well written or even really educational. By reading the reviews left on sites like amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com, you’ll be ready to see how well a specific book met the expectations of other customers.

You will wish to search the reviews carefully and get a good subset of both what folks liked or failed to like about the book. For instance, if you’ll read the Amazon.com reviews of the book “How to Be Your Dog’s Best Friend : A Training Manual for Dog Owners”, you’ll find that while some people truly liked the approach used by the authors, others thought they were completely off base.

It will be up to you to judge whether you feel the book will give you the information you need to curtail your dog’s problem behavior using methods you feel comfortable using. Not every book is applicable for every dog owner and dog, and what works for one could be fully the wrong approach for someone else. The best dog training book is going to be the one that works the best for you.
