Although there are plenty of remote trainers available in the market today, not all of these training collars are suitable for your dog. Different manufacturers and collar designers have different ideas of what a training collar should be or do, so you should select the one that fits your dog better. Here are some tips to help you select an electronic dog training collar that will work for you and your dog.

Go For a Water Proof Collar

An electronic dog collar that can resist water is safer than one that can’t. Remember that electronic gadgets utilize electricity and once these gadgets get in contact with water, they may short circuit or malfunction. In fact, if the collar stops working completely, that’s the best thing, because a malfunctioning collar will punish your dog even when your dog is being obedient, causing unnecessary stress. In order to avoid this situation, just get a collar that can get wet and won’t make you worry when it rains.

Select A Collar That Has Several Intensity Levels

It’s much more convenient and practical if you get a training collar that offers several levels of correction. Training involves several levels of priorities and urgency, and different commands are difficult to express with only one level of correction or intensity, which makes single level collars very limited. Moreover, different types or levels of stimulation are also useful to emphasize your point. Let’s say that your dog gets excited and starts to run to an area where it can get hurt or killed, like an avenue full of running cars; in that case the urgency of the situation justifies the use of a strong correction, as opposed to something not dangerous, like teaching your dog to fetch the paper.

Can Other Dogs Activate The Training Collar?

There are a few remote trainers that are so sensitive that they can detect and be activated by the barking of nearby dogs. To make sure that your dog does not get any undue punishments, make sure that you get an electronic dog training collar that can only be activated by the sound or the movement of the dog wearing it.

Pay Only For What You Will Use

Some collars are sold at prices that make you wonder if they make your dog talk and play the piano. However, just because a dog collar is expensive that does not mean that it is of superior quality. A great number of features can be driving the price up, but if you are not planning to use them all, then it’s not worth paying them. To save some money, check the features of the electronic dog training collars before you buy any of them then pay only for the features that you need.
