But there are a few dangers around during the summer months that every dog owner should be aware of.

A BBQ is often the highlight of the summer. Many of us will allow our dogs to join us in the garden when cooking outdoors.However, a BBQ is actually quite hazardous to a dog.A dog will not realise that the BBQ is hot, possibly until it is too late. And a lively dog may easily bump into the BBQ, injuring or burning itself. Furthermore, the food that we humans love to consume is simply not good for your dog.You may think it will do no harm to offer him a burger or sausage and the likelihood is that he will beg for more.However, such greasy food offers little nutritional value and will only result in your dog becoming a fussy eater; one who expects to be fed from your plate.Instead, offer him a tasty bowl of his favourite dog food. Plus, your dog could end up choking on small bones if you offer it chicken wings or drumsticks.

Supply lots of fresh water

It is cruicial that you incorporate water into your dog’s daily diet.During the hot summer months water is vitally important so your dog does not become dehydrated.Offer a bowl full of clean water during every meal and make sure that this dish is topped up throughout the day. When you are out with the dog remember to take a supply of water with you.He will certainly be grateful for the refreshment.

Dogs in Cars

If it is hot outside you should never, ever leave your dog locked in the car, even for what you believe will be a matter of minutes.Instead, take your dog with you wherever you go, or leave him at home.

Animal Friendly Sun Screen

Dogs are as vulnerable to the sun’s rays as humans.Did you know that you can now buy sunscreen for your dog, which is great for the times you know he will be outside in the sunshine for prolonged lengths of time. Pay close attention to those areas with little fur coverage, such as the nose and ears.
