Kennels and Dog Crates – A True Advantage
Canines, just like humans, enjoy having an area they can make their own. This is achievable with kennels and crates for dogs. It is more usual to use crates when your four-legged friend is indoors and to use kennels when your dog is outdoors. If your pet is going to stay outside the house for prolonged periods of time, and particularly if you don’t have a fenced in yard, you will need a dog kennel to keep your pet secure and at ease. The size of the kennel will depend on how large your pet is, and don’t forget to take into account (if your dog is not already full grown) how large your dog will eventually get. Most people opt for either a wire mesh kennel or a galvanized steel kennel for usage outdoors. You have choices for the ground covering ranging from the original soil in your back garden to gravel to a concrete slab. Take into consideration that if your pet likes to dig, they may well be able to dig underneath the kennel and get away if you stick with sand or dirt. It is also nice to put some type of a roof over the kennel. A replaceable tarp that you can fasten down is an excellent solution or you may choose to go with a shingle roof. It depends on how much cash you are ready to shell out.
Dog crates and kennels are available in different shapes and sizes but a good example of a kennel is the Jewett-Cameron Champion dog kennel costing about $200. It is simple to put together and it is constructed for convenience, long life and safety. It is built of galvanized steel that offers corrosion resistance and it will also protect your pet from wild animals and stray dogs. A tarp could easily be placed over the top of the kennel. Its dimensions are 5 feet wide x 4 feet high x 5 feet long. If you need something larger Jewett-Cameron offers a kennel that is 10 feet long x 5 feet wide x 6 feet high and is priced at about four hundred dollars. It has the same great features as the other kennel but it will offer your pet extra space to stretch out.
Dog crates are also made of steel but, in addition, you can find them in canvas, plastic and wood. These work better inside your house and will offer your pet a spot that they know is their own where they can feel secure. They are also practical for carrying your puppy to veterinarian appointments and for other travel purposes. A great many of the wooden crates are designed to look like an item of furniture and they can be made to match your decoration and even used as a table. They start at about $200. The wire crates start at around sixty dollars, as do the canvas crates. On the less expensive side, there are dog crates for sale made with plastic that cost around $40 but, obviously, the price will depend not just on the size of your puppy but also on the features that are important to you.
Dog crates and kennels can be a true advantage to both you and your canine friend. For outside the house, they will have a space where they are at ease and you can feel confident leaving them in the knowledge that they are in a contained area and happy. For indoors, both your furry friend will be content in the knowledge that they have a spot to make their own where they can go and feel snug and relaxed.
