Look After Your Rabbit With Regular Grooming Sessions
It is a well known fact that rabbits are clean little animals, who place particular importance in grooming. In fact, rabbits spend a large proportion of the day keeping themselves well groomed and this in turn benefits their skin and coat texture.Just because your pet rabbit spends a huge amount of its day grooming itself does not mean that you are absolved from getting involved. To really look after your pet you should develop a rabbit care regime that you stick to each and every day.
At the start of the day why not brush your rabbits coat with a soft brush? This closeness helps to develop a bond with the rabbit as well as keeping the coat keen and glossy.Brushing is important because it helps to remove any dead of excess hairs from the rabbits coat, which if not removed could be swallowed by the rabbit. You want to avoid your rabbit swallowing high levels of fur because it causes hairballs which are hard to digest. If your rabbit is not brushed and develops a fur ball in its digestive system you may end up facing a hefty vets bill, so please do not avoid this task.On average a rabbit will shed its old fur every three months.
Rabbits have very sensitive skin so search for a brush that has soft bristles and wont tear your pet bunnies skin. Some rabbit owners like a plastic wide toothed comb for their grooming. When properly groomed and tended to long haired rabbits, like Angora’s, are gorgeous. The issue is keeping all that hair combed, clean, and free of mats is often considered rather a chore. If your rabbit has very long hair you can take it to a grooming salon to get it trimmed to around one inch in length. This help keep the rabbit’s coat clean and free of mats but also keeps the rabbit more comfortable during the hot summer.Cutting the fur can be a tricky task and many pet owners prefer to leave it to the experts, however if you choose to do it yourself make sure you use blunt edged scissors so you avoid the risk of cutting the animal.A patch of matted hair can in some cases be combed out, so don’t instantly grab the scissors and cut it off.If you find that this is too trying on your patience, you may wish to take your pet rabbit to a specialist pet groomer and have them remove the mats with a pair of electric clippers.
The nails are another area to watch. If they look too long you may need to get them trimmed. To avoid hurting your rabbit do not do this job yourself. As your vet to trim the rabbits nails because he will know exactly how long they should be, will have the right equipment and will be less inclined to panic if the rabbit tries to struggle free.
