Dogs bark by nature, but sometimes it can get to your nerves (or your neighbors´) in which case you should definitely consider getting an anti bark collar. These collars have been around for years now but a lot of dog owners are just now finding out about them.

You should always try oral training first when reducing a dog’s barking, before you resort to other methods. The procedure is exactly like when you taught your dog to sit, stand, or to go fetch something, so you should be familiar with it. However, because each dog is different, this process doesn’t always work and this is where you have to get an anti bark collar. You will then have to decide what type of anti bark collar you should buy.

Citronella Collar

The citronella spray collar is becoming very popular today. Many dog owners prefer this collar over other types of collars because it doesn’t hurt or present a risk to the dog. It does not work like the shock collars which actually shock your dog every time they bark. It works by spraying the dog’s muzzle with a bit of citronella every time the dog barks unnecessarily, confusing him momentarily and thus stopping the barking.

The spray isn’t painful or specially uncomfortable to the dog; it stops the dog from barking because of this sudden smell that makes the dog wonder what happened. As times goes by, the dog will realize that the spray is activated when he barks, and he will limit the barking to necessary situations. The collar includes a built-in mic that detects when the dog barks and releases a spray of citronella.

Ultrasonic Collars

The ultrasonic collar is the other popular collar of choice by dog owners. This is a type of collar that is also completely harmless to your dog so there is no need to worry about that. The collar emits a high pitched sound that stops dogs from barking. You will not be able to hear it because it is too high pitched for humans to hear.

The ultrasound collar lets you adjust its sound settings, so that you can change them if the default ones aren’t working on your dog. For instance, your dog might respond better to a constant non-interrupted sound than to a series of individual sounds.

In the end, anti bark collars are cheaper solutions than dog schools, and they don’t hurt your dog at all, so you should really consider them if you want to reduce your dog’s barking to a normal level.
