If you are trying to think of the most enjoyable season for dogs and their owners is probably summer.Plenty of long warm days and evenings mean ideal walking conditions. What could be better than a brisk morning walk or gentle evening stroll with your dog?The fresh air and exercise is good for your health and your dog will love you for accompanying him on his daily walk. But there are a few dangers around during the summer months that every dog owner should be aware of.

BBQ Parties

A BBQ is often the highlight of the summer. Many of us will allow our dogs to join us in the garden when cooking outdoors. However, a BBQ is actually quite hazardous to a dog.A dog will not realise that the BBQ is hot, possibly until it is too late. And a lively dog may easily bump into the BBQ, injuring or burning itself. Furthermore, the food that we humans love to consume is simply not good for your dog.You may think it will do no harm to offer him a burger or sausage and the likelihood is that he will beg for more. However, such greasy food offers little nutritional value and will only result in your dog becoming a fussy eater; one who expects to be fed from your plate.Instead, offer him a tasty bowl of his favourite dog food. Plus, your dog could end up choking on small bones if you offer it chicken wings or drumsticks.

Supply lots of fresh water

It is cruicial that you incorporate water into your dog’s daily diet.During the hot summer months water is vitally important so your dog does not become dehydrated.Offer a bowl full of clean water during every meal and make sure that this dish is topped up throughout the day. When you are out with the dog remember to take a supply of water with you.He will certainly be grateful for the refreshment.

Dogs in Cars

If it is hot outside you should never, ever leave your dog locked in the car, even for what you believe will be a matter of minutes.Instead, take your dog with you wherever you go, or leave him at home.

Animal Friendly Sun Screen

Dogs are as vulnerable to the sun’s rays as humans.Did you know that you can now buy sunscreen for your dog, which is great for the times you know he will be outside in the sunshine for prolonged lengths of time. Pay close attention to those areas with little fur coverage, such as the nose and ears.

If you are a dog lover, you may feel that one dog is not enough. However, before you add a second dog to your household, there are a few important points you should consider.

The temperament of your pet should be your first consideration. To avoid fights, you should seek to pair your dog with a dog of a dis-similar nature, that way they should be able to establish which dog is the most dominant. If you ignore the personalities of the dogs you are really setting yourself up for an unhappy pairing between the animals. Also, if your existing pet is submissive and quiet avoid homing a dominant dog with a strong personality because it will find it easy to bully your first dog.Hopefully, you have a dog that does not lean too far in either direction.

The size of your dog is the second considerationTry and adopt a second dog with a similar breed to the dog already living with you.A large dog can easily hurt a small dog.If you already own a big dog it can be possible to add a smaller dog to the home, but only if the big dog has a placid nature.

Gender is another consideration. For example, if you own a female capable of reproducing she may be very anxious if you introduce another female. You may need to alter your dog before she will accept another female. She may still show some aggression after being spayed, so a male puppy may be a wiser choice.(Of course if you do pair a male dog with a female you need to make sure one of them is neutered or it won’t be long before a new litter of puppies arrives!)

Age is another important consideration and you should avoid pairing a very old dog with a puppy. An older dog will have far less patience and energy and may not want to interact with a puppy. An old dog is far more likely to get on well with an adult dog.

Some breeds of dogs have more trouble accepting a new puppy than other breeds.Toy dogs can often be soiled, jealous and keen for their owners attention. These toy dogs often dislike the addition of a puppy into the home.More aggressive and dominant dogs like pit bulls are also not good at accepting a new dog into the home.Happily, there are many dog breeds out there that mix well, so do some research first and you should be able to find a suitable partner for your pooch.

Lastly, think about whether you can actually afford a second dog.Dog’s are not cheap so make sure you can afford to pay for the dog food, vets bills, vaccinations and accessories.

In the past twenty years, pet owners have been pampering their pets in a variety of ways. Interesting developments in relation to pet care have made it possible for pet owners to give their pets the very best. Although you may not be able to select the right service for your pet’s care, it makes sense to find out all you can about the various options available. You can get resources on pets portraits by visiting this site.

A doggie day care center is a care center for dogs. Pet owners lead very busy lives today. A person may find it hard to spend time with his or her pet because of a full time table. Leaving the pet unattended in the house each day is not a pleasing idea for the pet’s owner.

There are day care centers for doggies and daily care centers for children –both work the same way. Payment for pet care service depends on the number of days, grooming and care that the owner wishes to arrange for his/her pet. Demand for doggie care services has led to an increase in day care centers for dogs in many cities. You can get the best painted portrait information by visiting this website.

Hotels are now accepting dogs along with their guests. Pets are now being taken on travel by their owners. Traveling with pets on business or vacation trips is the latest trend these days. Hotels making special arrangements for pets belonging to business travelers are increasing in number.

There are sprouting up in different locations hotels designed specifically for pets. The level of service of these hotels has presently expanded from looking after dogs to other acceptable pets. Pet hotels are just like advanced dog kennels, used by owners to keep their pets in the best possible luxury while they are away.

Today, pet spas are very much in existence. If you want to completely pamper your companion animal, nothing compares to a day at the spa. From the ultimate in grooming to delectable food, a pet spa is something akin to heaven on earth for a companion animal. A big price tag is attached to spa treatments for dogs, so you may well be prepared for spending a large sum. Make sure that your dog will enjoy the day at the spa before you decide to invest in these expensive services.

Instead of the pet spa, your dog may enjoy the simpler pleasures of playing with his doggie friends, so you could take him to the dog park close to your home. Dog parks are quite common in cities and towns. Experts in the recreational field expect to see dog parks as a universal feature in all communities’ world wide within a span of five years.

If you own a dog, you’re probably going to require to purchase more things. In order to properly care for a dog and to comply with certain local laws, the owner must have a number of dog accessories in their arsenal. While a few of these items are only convenient, some are actually downright necessary. It is important to understand precisely what you will need to correctly care for your dog.

The Bare Necessities

Most of the actually necessary items for dog care are fairly clear. If you have a dog you’ll need bowls for the dog’s food and water. Most bigger dogs eat while moving their food bowls round the room. This could be exasperating, as you may probably need to have a look for the bowl before you can feed them, not to mention the noise it makes. You can, therefore, choose to make it tricky for your dog to move the bowl around by choosing a heavier one made of ceramic. A strong plastic bowl with a rubber lining on the bottom can be helpful as well . As your dog eats, the rubber lining at the bottom will keep it from sliding around.

For taking the dog on walks you’ll need a leash and a collar. These can be as simple or as complicated as you’d like, but naturally you may want to take the strength and size of your dog into account when picking them. The collar can (and should) be decorated with a license tag or at least an ID tag that details your name and contact information in case your dog is lost.

You will need a “pooper scooper” if you live in massive cities such as Chicago or New York. Most towns have laws against permitting dogs to do their business anywhere. Some cities even impose major financial penalties on violations.

Optional Accessories

There are thousands of optional accessories that you should purchase for your dog. Some of these items, like the gravity refillable water dishes and food bowls, serve a particularly useful purpose, others – the dog bandana springs to mind – serve no real purpose and are merely ornamental or merely plain stupid.

Dog booties are particularly helpful dog accessories for those in hot climates. While they may seem like a simply precocious and relatively worthless item, they do a good job of protecting the delicate pads of a dog’s feet from coarse terrain, rocky areas, and hot pavement. Those in cooler climates may not understand, but in some places, especially the desert environments of towns such as Phoenix, Vegas, and Albuquerque, the summer pavement can literally become hot enough to fry an egg. You wouldn’t walk barefoot on such a surface and neither should your dog.

In 2006, Yorkshire Terriers became the second most popular purebred dog in America. The year before, they had been number three. Although it seems hard to think that any breed of dog would topple the long reigning Labrador Retriever from the top spot, the tiny Yorkshire Terrier seems poised to do just that. Wondering if you have ever seen a Yorkshire Terrier (most commonly called Yorkies)? Chances are, you have seen a lot of them.

Yorkshire Terriers weigh only about six pounds, although they can get heavier or lighter without being ill in any way. They have pointed ears, a tiny pointed nose and a yappy voice. They are most commonly in blue and gold coats, although a there are slight variations in color the blue and gold dominate. These coats naturally grow long and silky, getting to be almost twice the length of the dog, requiring that tiny red bow in top so the dog can see.
The personality of a Yorkshire Terrier is pretty consistent, even though you will find some differences in individual dogs. There is a temperament goal in the Yorkshire breed standard that ethical breeders try to get their dogs to copy. Yorkshire Terriers are the benevolent Napoleons of the canine world, needing to be in charge of every little thing in their territory. They are bossy, vocal and need to be fussed over.

The breed standard lists Yorkies as alert, vivacious and full of “self importance”. (That’s putting it mildly). Yorkies are one of the few dog breeds that can be picky eaters. They make very good watchdogs. They do not do well in a home with pet rodents, as they were bred to kill rats. However, they do well in homes with elderly or small children. In a home with other dogs, don’t be surprised if the Yorkie becomes the alpha dog very quickly.
Yorkshire Terriers pointed ears are more V-shaped than a tight point. Their noses are supposed to be always black. Their eyes are bright and alert. The Yorkshire Terrier should seem as if he thinks he’s better than everyone else and carry himself like he’s the biggest dog in the world. Their backs are level and they should stand squarely. They shouldn’t have an overbite or an undershot jaw like a bulldog.

Some common faults in a purebred Yorkshire Terrier include floppy ears as an adult, being just too big to be in the show ring, having an undocked tail (all show dogs have tails docked at two or three days of age) or dewclaws (which are removed from all show dogs). Another fault is if they are over seven pounds, which happens often, even in purebreds, since the Yorkshire Terrier ancestor was well over seven pounds. Another fault is if they don’t have the right color.

You can find many books on dog care, including care of the Yorkshire Terrier. Go to the library to find books that contain extensive Yorkshire Terrier information.

It has been said that the German Shepherd dog (often called Alsatian) act the way all human beings are supposed to act. They are incredibly loyal, highly intelligent and brave. They have been bred for centuries not only to interact with mankind, but also to be an essential life partner. Throughout the world, German Shepherd dogs herd sheep, rescue disaster victims, tackle criminals, guide the blind and star in movies.

But if German Shepherd dogs are so great, how come so many wind up in animal shelters? These incredible animals are abandoned by the thousands every year, not because they have something wrong with them, but that their previous owners lacked the basic German Shepherd information on what life is like with this special breed. If you are considering getting a German Shepherd, please take into consideration what life with a Shepherd is like before you get the dog or puppy.
Daily life with a German Shepherd should include a lot of interaction and fuss with your family and your dog. They love to be in the center of the action and are strong enough to force their way to the center of the action if not supervised. Keeping the dog exercised, including games and playing in the yard will help to keep his or her energy levels down. German Shepherds are not vicious by nature, but they can play rough, just like puppies do.

You will need to brush your German Shepherd every day to keep out tangles and to keep shedding to a minimum. Most German Shepherds have thick, double layer coats, although there are many with single layer coats. Bathing the German Shepherd Dog too often can result in shedding and dandruff production beyond belief so only bathe when absolutely necessary. Train your dog to be still when brushed and do it after exercise.
German Shepherd dogs are highly trainable, providing they get regular exercise and aren’t overfed. Too much food for a German Shepherd is like giving too much sugar and caffeine to a child – they can’t help being a bit hyper afterwards. They are also more trainable and calmer is you have them spayed or neutered. This also cuts down in incidences of wandering, aggression and cancers of the reproductive organs. Leave the breeding of German Shepherds to the experts.

Another point not usually touted in German Shepherd information from the AKC is that they often have health problems. The German Shepherd Rescue of North Carolina has estimated that care of a German Shepherd Dog costs about three thousand dollars per year, and German Shepherds live into their teens. If you take on a German Shepherd be committed to taking care of them financially as well as with affection, proper grooming, diligent training and proper nutrition.

The Internet offers hundreds of articles on dogs, including quite a few about German Shepherd dogs. Writing a book on dog care for newbies, including a large section on German Shepherd information could sell a million copies.
