In recent years there have been several cases where commercial dog food has caused severe illness, and even death, in pet dogs. As a result, many pet owners have begun to mistrust the pet food companies. Many would prefer to move away from commercial dog food, but simply aren’t aware of any alternative.

If you’re one of those searching for an alternative, read on. This article provides some guidelines to making homemade food for your dog.

It’s no secret that most commercial dog food is not good for your dog. Many of these foods are packed with processed grains which have no nutritional value and are known to cause all manner of allergies in dogs.

And then there are the chemical based colorings and flavorings which have been connected to all manner of diseases, including cancer.Even the meat that these foods contain is low grade – generally the parts considered unfit for human consumption.

Of course, not all commercial dog foods should be tarred with the same brush. Some, in particular the premium brands, are of much higher quality than what I’ve described. However, it is doubtful wether they provide the same level of nutrition as a whole food diet, so you may want to consider that for your dog.

Here are three quick tips to get you started;

Quality is important. Feed your dog good cuts of unprocessed meat, fresh vegetables and unprocessed fiber, like brown rice. Avoid at all costs, junk food, table scraps and highly processed foods, like white bread.

Remember that your dog is an omnivore, and needs vegetables as well as meat. As a rough rule of thumb try for a three way split between meat, vegetables and fiber. If you’re going to err slightly in any direction, feed more meat because protein is very important in a dog’s diet.

Dogs have a poorly developed sense of taste so don’t bother too much with seasonings. In fact, highly seasoned food may actually cause diarrhea,

Also remember that not all foods that can be safely consumed by humans, are good for dogs.

Just about everybody knows that chocolate is harmful, but are you aware that there are many other human foods that are dangerous, even potentially lethal, to your pet?

Onions, garlic, raisins, grapes, macadamia nuts are just some of the foods that fall into this category. Other things, like table scraps and junk food may not be deadly, but are just as dangerous, causing obesity and a plethora of related health problems.

Something else that not many dog owners consider is that giving bones to dogs can be dangerous. A bone that can be crunched up and swallowed may damage the stomach and intestines, while there is a risk of salmonella poisoning from raw bones.

By following the simple guidelines above you can quite easily switch your dog to a nutritionally balanced home cooked diet. You should, however, speak to your vet before making the change.

Canine Parvovirus, also commonly called CPV or parvo, is the most prevalent, infectious canine disease in the United States. It is highly contagious and often deadly, particularly because current vaccines do not protect against all strains.

Dog owners should therefore arm themselves with knowledge about the disease, it’s symptoms, how it is spread and most importantly, what to do if you think your dog may be infected.

Although CPV can occur in adult dogs, it most commonly affects puppies and young dogs, by attacking their underdeveloped immune systems. Certain breeds, including Doberman Pinschers, Labrador Retrievers, and Rottweilers are known to be particularly susceptible to canine parvovirus.

The first indication that a dog may have contracted parvo will be a high fever, along with general lethargy, depression and loss of appetite. The dog may then begin vomiting and may develop diarrhea, which has a distinct yellow look and a particularly foul smell.

As the disease spreads it will cause severe dehydration and the dog may go into shock. The virus may also enter the heart, causing heart failure. It is not unknown for heart failure to occur months, even years, after the parvovirus infection.

The most common form of parvovirus is enteritis, which attacks the digestive system, specifically the lining of the stomach and intestines. This makes it impossible for the dog to absorb fluids or nutrients, and manifests in bloody diarrhea. Left untreated, it will inevitably result in the death of the dog.

Even if the dog does recover he is likely to be weak and sickly for the rest of his life.

There is no known cure for parvovirus, and the treatment is largely supportive, for example, giving the infected dog IV fluids to prevent dehydration. The vet may also administer an intravenous balanced electrolyte solution, while antibiotics are usually given to fight off secondary bacterial infection.

If the dog has severe symptoms, an antiserum may also be administered, while corticosteroids are usually given to dogs that are in shock.

One of the reasons that Parvo is so dangerous is that the virus is extremely resilient. It is transmitted through contact with the faeces of an infected dog, and can live in ground that was exposed to the faecal matter for up to as six months.

It withstands most household cleaners and commercial disinfectants, although undiluted chlorine bleach has prove to be effective in killing it.

While current vaccines do not provide protection against all strains of parvo, it is still essential for you to have your puppy vaccinated.

You should also be very wary of allowing your puppy to interact with dogs you are not familiar with. In fact, you should not allow your puppy off your property until he has had his full set of shots. Better to be safe than sorry.

It’s just recently been discovered that dogs, in the same manner as humans, can be allergic to a specific food or foods in a particular food group. Food allergy in dogs is one of the five more commonly found forms of canine allergies, and though the dog is normally born with the condition, food allergies in dogs can arise at any time during the course of the canine’s life.

The Signs and Causes of Canine Allergies to Food

Your dog will occasionally suffer a reaction to the diverse kinds of foods they feed on. Most of the time, they only suffer from indigestion which might give rise to diarrhea and vomiting. An allergy to food is not the same as that though, instead of merely having a belly ache, it’ll trigger itchy skin in canines besides the earlier stated indications of food allergies: diarrhea, vomiting and swelling. A canine’s itching may bring on peeling skin, eczema, hot spots and perhaps hair loss. In a few animals, additional signs of a food allergy may involve losing weight, agitation and perhaps violent behavior.

In a canine coping with an allergy to food, the immune system overreacts to a specific substance that it typically accepts causing an allergic reaction. Food allergies in dogs are normally triggered by proteins found in dairy foods, sugars and wheat as a consequence of eating table scraps. While proteins are the likely cause of a food allergy, any kind of food or food constituent can cause an allergic reaction.

How to Diagnose Canine Allergies to Food

In the past, an elimination diet was the sole means available to determine whether or not an animal was being affected by an allergy to food. The animal was fed a diet of hypoallergenic dog food that didn’t contain any constituents found in the earlier diet for roughly two to three months. Nowadays, diagnosis can be achieved by a vet employing a simple food allergy test that consists of lab testing run on a sample of blood taken from the animal.

Methods for Treating Canine Allergies to Food

The one food allergy cure is avoidance of the food or food substance that is the source of the food allergy. The recommended type of food for canines dealing with allergies to food is hypoallergenic dog food that contains all-natural ingredients. This type of dog food can be fed to a canine for the balance of his life without concern of the animal’s allergy re-emerging.

Because of the dog’s itching, you’ll probably have to address dog skin conditions besides. A vet will often propose using skin ointments and antihistamines. But because using antihistamines for dog allergies may perhaps trigger damaging side effects, a homeopathic cure for dog allergies to food is a healthier alternative. There are a number of herbal and homeopathic treatment options being offered that have been shown by canine owners to offer great results.

The vast majority of dog owners will already be well aware of the problems of worms in dogs. People who deal with dogs (traders, vets, owners) are usually keen to stress how important it is you do what you can to prevent them.

It is not uncommon to hear worms in dogs described as a gruesome subject. This is even more the case with people who are already a bit squeamish. Regardless of whether you find worms in dogs disgusting or not, it is still your responsibility to ensure you are doing everything you can to prevent them occurring in your pet.

A State of Mind

The prevention of worms in dogs can be aided by putting yourself in the right state of mind. If you view worms in dogs as an annoyance or a chore, then you weaken yourself in the battle against them. The battle against worms in dogs should be part of your daily routine as a mutt owner.

A positive state of mind is imperative. It is inevitable that you will face some setbacks. It may be the case that they have a mild infection. Don’t worry, this is normal.

What You Can Do

By getting yourself in the right state of mind, you can begin your rigorous programme of prevention. A vet should deworm your dog annually. This is imperative, regardless of whether they show any symptoms.

You should make this an even more important consideration when the dog is a puppy. Weaker immune systems make puppies more susceptible to worm infections. They are not yet at full strength. A serious worm infection in a puppy can be fatal.

Do some research on worms in dogs. This way you will know what to look out for and you will be able to recognise if your dog has a problem. Remember, prevention is easier than finding a cure.

Many can be easily confused when they first broach the subject of worms in dogs. Search for worms in dogs on an internet search engine and you will be presented with an information overload. Some of this information will be important, some of it will not.

You need a lot of free time to do proper research into the matter. You will have enough to worry about with looking after your dog, let alone becoming an expert in veterinary subjects.

Here are three things that all pet owners should know about worms in dogs.

1.	Puppies

Worms in dogs can be particularly harmful to puppies. They do not have the same strength immune systems as fully grown dogs. It is often the case that they are born with worms. The mother often passes worms onto the pup whilst they are in her womb.

As soon as a puppy is born, they should be dewormed by a vet. This will rid them of any worms they have. Pay close attention to this advice.

2.	Deworming

It is imperative that you have your dog professionally dewormed by a vet annually. Have this done on the same date each year.

Dogs should be dewormed regularly, regardless of whether they display any symtoms. This is because dogs can have worms without actually displaying symptoms. Doing this will wage war on worms in dogs.

3.	Children

Unfortunately, worms in dogs can be harmful to humans and in particular, children. Again, the reason for this is that children have weaker immune systems than adults. Do not let children play with the fesces of dogs and always make sure they wash their hands after playing with the dog. If you do not do this then you risk your child’s health.

Worms in dogs are a persistent problem for dog owners. The possibility of worms in dogs can never be completely ruled out. It is imperative a dog owner keeps a careful eye on their pet for the symptoms of a worm infestation.

One thing that can worry many dog owners is how an infestation of worms will affect the dog’s actual mood. It can be troubling for a pet owner to see their dog go through unhappy and painful times.

Gauging the mood of a dog is easy once you’ve had them around for a few weeks. Just like humans, dogs go through stages of being happy, sad, angry and content. Acquire a dog and within weeks you will be able to tell what sort of mood they are in.

Your dog’s mood will be affected by worms in dogs. Watch out for signs of them being tetchy and aggressive. They may also be quite lethargic. Keep one close eye on the mood of your dog at all times and you’ll get a good idea of whether they have worms.

Taking the right measures can mean that worms in dogs will never be too serious of a problem. Implementing a rigorous dog health care system is a great way to combat worms in dogs. Worms in dogs will be a thing of the past if you couple this with an annual de-worming trip to the vet’s.

Govern a strict dog health care programme and you can guarantee that your dog will be as happy as Larry. When it comes to dogs, healthiness is next to happiness. If you neglect their health care then worms in dogs could be a real problem. Only you are responsible for your dog health care programme.

If you own a dog, you know how many dog health care considerations there are and you do your best to up-keep them. After all, they want to ensure their best friend is in perfect health. Most will also be aware that dog health care considerations change from season to season.

If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, then the end of the winter will currently be in sight and you’ll be beginning to look forward to the spring season. It is hard to find someone who doesn’t like the springtime. There is a buzz about planet earth in the spring; there are beautiful new-born lambs in the fields and daffodils in every corner.

There are different dog health care challenges in spring to those in the other seasons. Firstly, the grooming of your pet will radically change in spring. He or she will start to shed their winter coat. You will have to clean their habitat more regularly because it will be covered in hairs.

Daffodils truly are the gem in spring’s crown; however, they are also extremely toxic to dogs. Make sure your dog doesn’t start nibbling daffodils in your garden, or whenever you take them for a walk.

Humans aren’t the only animals to suffer from hay fever. Pollen, dust and airborne moulds can cause problems for dogs, as well as humans. Keep an eye on your dog to see if they are sneezing more regularly during the spring season. Consult a vet if this is your dog.

As well as doing this, you should still perform all your staple dog health care tasks, such as regular de-worming and general hygiene maintenance. Good dog health care prevents your dog developing serious medical issues.

There aren’t as many new dog health care challenges in spring as there are in winter, which is good news. Don’t sit back on your laurels though. Dog health care is a constant and sometimes challenging process. The rewards are evident though, especially when your dog is in a spritely, affectionate mood.

Practically all of us adores pets. In reality, a large number of households contain a family pet or maybe 2 living within the family home. Regardless of the kind of animal you have, it really is vital that the pet is receiving the right type of pet care. Taking good care of animals is often pleasant, but, it also is often loads of work.

The initial step to excellent pet care is ensuring that the property is safe for one’s pets. Do you know specific foods and even outdoor and indoor plants can be harmful to dogs and cats? For instance, it’s always advised that you under no circumstances feed a dog chocolates. Chocolate is often harmful for your dog to eat, even in modest quantities. Be certain everybody in your home is cognizant of this and continue to keep the chocolates out of their reach.

If you study, one can find over seven hundred plants which are usually lethal to canines and pet cats. In case you have flowers inside the property, its important for you to check and be certain that these are not a likely danger for your pet. Plenty of backyard plants are toxic, too, therefore you’ll want to look at which ones present a danger and make sure the animal is not able to access these.

Additionally, make sure that that all of the household chemicals and mice poison are put away in a place the pet can’t reach them. Though they may possibly smell yucky to you, however that doesn’t mean that they won’t appeal to your family dog to make an attempt to ingest them. Most dogs specifically tend to be attracted to the sugary taste of anti-freeze. In the event you have this chemical inside your garage area, always make certain its put away where the furry friend won’t be able to reach it. The effects of eating merely a tiny amount of this chemical may be fatal.

Do not keep pails of liquid sitting out in places where the family pet could fall inside and get trapped and consequently risk the likelihood of drowning. In lots of ways, animals are similar to little children and they don’t have an understanding of the risks lurking within the family home. Make an effort to visualize ways that you can easily look after your animals by preventing accidents around the house..

Good pet care starts at home. Pet – proof the house for you to ensure your animals are safe every time you’re out of our home. Block off harmful places, like fireplaces and wood-burning stoves. Bear in mind that your family pet almost certainly isn’t going to have an understanding of household hazards. Put their safety 1st and they may get the chance to experience a few more years with you and your family.

From a bird to a canine, excellent pet care and attention contributes to strong household pets with long life. Regardless whether taking care of a fish, a hamster or even a rabbit, a number of concerns are necessary for all types of household pets. Fresh drinking water, very good foods and also cleanliness are a given, as well as exercise.

Just about everyone, humans and critters alike, must have fresh drinking water. For almost all household pets, clean drinking water every day is required. Do not only just put fresh drinking water in the dish, on the contrary be sure to completely clean it out, as you’d for oneself. Fish also must have fresh water. Fish that live in an aquarium tank are more than likely supplied with water which is filtered on a regular schedule. Still, the aquarium needs daily maintaining also which includes all of the floors and walls, rocks and also decorations. Fish that live inside a bowl with no filtration must have their tank water cleaned out several times per week.

All animals need distinct nutrition specifications which includes fats, healthy proteins and dietary fiber content. Its essential to provide for your animal food especially developed for the breed. For instance, you shouldn’t supply a pet guinea pig, rabbit or hamster foods. Guinea pigs have different requirements compared to other little animals. And also, with cats and dogs, there are lots of distinct breeds and specific requirements to take into consideration. Much more energetic animals need to have distinct levels of proteins and also fats than less active pets. Fat pets need foods reduced in fat than those in good shape for their over all size. And also younger pets need to have additional calcium and increased levels of healthy proteins designed for growth just like pregnant and lactating mommies. Pet nutrition professionals like people that own or work in pet retailers may help and inform you for your animal’s specific requirements.

Hygiene is important, also, still you shouldn’t go overboard. Water and food dishes ought to be kept clean as should snoozing regions. Nevertheless, animals needn’t dwell in a near sterile conditions either, mainly because they wouldn’t produce natural immunities. Dogs and cats, especially, need to have their typical vaccinations as well. And when available, your dog can visit the puppy playground to interact socially with the other pet dogs. Socialization and physical exercise are pretty vital.

Though quite a few animals live life as an only ‘child’ in their homes, socialization is really a good benefit. There’s a natural need to play and also bond with like species, and also to learn about others. Its typical for a cat to sit and watch a bird from the window, and it’s healthy. Exercising, also, is important. Animals were definitely not supposed to be sitting around the house. Regardless whether old or young, thin or possibly weighty, all pets must have some type of normal physical exertion. For dogs, this may very well be getting a routine walk around the block, which is also very good for the pet owner, or playing within the back yard or perhaps with other dogs in the dog park. For pet cats, this may be playing with a squeaky toy. For a hamster, a wheel is essential, since rodents are generally nocturnal and might sprint inside the wheel for a long time each and every night.

Its likewise essential to make sure you give your pets with entertainment in order to decrease getting bored. Boredom can lead to lousy behavior. For example, chew toys designed for canines are great, as this presents them with an item of their own to do one thing that comes naturally, to chew up. It’s the same for mice along with other little animals. You can find a great deal of chew toys produced lately for little pets or animals which provide pleasure in addition to adding to their day-to-day vitamin and mineral needs. For pet cats, toys and scratching posts along with other feline furnishings offers them their very own space, to do what ever they want.

These are merely basic principles to great pet maintenance. Since the majority of people have some form of furry friend nowadays, there’s a large marketplace geared towards supplying great top quality care for them. Do research into your kind of pet and talk with people that have the same pets. Being a family member, you want your pet to have the top chance to live a extended, healthful life.

So you’re wondering if the pet food you’re feeding is unquestionably good for your dog.

What Is The Best Dog Food

Maybe you noticed that your specific brand of pet food isn’t good for your dog. Here I will certainly try to describe things to look for and also all of the ingredients and also the way they compare to whatever you are presently feeding. Be sure to consider pet food is necessary for their wellbeing as for the vast majority of pets it’s their principal supply of nourishment.

A few basic tips are:

Please don’t purchase pet food containing BHT and / or BHA. These are additives that could well be toxic.
Please don’t purchase pet food containing byproducts in the food; most are frequently remaining coming from the human marketplace. Which means that byproducts could be the feet, digestive tract, necks or anything else.

The Best Dog Food

Grains that are normally challenging for your dog to break down including corn, wheat, gluten and also soy, are often utilized as a protein supply rather than poultry. — This approach seriously isn’t good and and also can certainly lead to allergy symptoms.

Now let’s get into the fun part. . .

The foremost five different ingredients play a substantial function within the general dietary structure of any pet food

What are the protein origins? I believe the main foundation really should originate from good quality animal protein, definitely not veggie proteins or grain. Commercial dog foods that report two or perhaps a great deal more grains within the first 5 active ingredients may well provide more veggie proteins than animal proteins.

What about grains? Several whole grains posted inside the 1st 5 ingredients indicates your food may well have far more vegetable protein than animal protein. Grains including soy, corn, corn gluten and wheat gluten may be difficult to digest, which indicates much less nutrition and far more clean up.

Beware of off cuts of meat? Several producers consider byproducts inferior protein sources and, depending upon the source, they may be challenging to be able to break down.

Are you aware of the kinds of fat that are used? Several fats are generally superior as compared to other fats. We believe the main fat source in pet food ought to be animal sourced because animal fats contain a particular EFA profile that are quickly metabolized and thus are far more readily available for the dog’s body.

Look for an recognizable animal protein like “chicken meal” rather a plain looking phrase; such as, “poultry meal,” which could consist of any fowl (turkey, chicken, geese, etc.).

Several producers incorporate chicken in their pet foods; nevertheless, try to look for Chicken “Meal” since chicken meat possesses a specific amount of moisture inside the flesh; nonetheless, chicken “meal” can be described as concentrated supply of necessary protein due to the fact the majority of the liquid has been taken out. As a result, it simply stands to reason that you get an even greater amino acids amount in just one pound of chicken meal versus a single lb of chicken.

As a final point, Be certain your pet food has got bacteria cultures like acidophilus to get smooth food digestion, veggies and also dietary fiber, which also aids with food digestion, and also vitamins and minerals for antioxidant defense.

For canine owners, worms in dogs can be a persistent nuisance. Puppies are most at risk from worm infestations, but they can pose health risks for dogs of all ages.

Primarily worms in dogs are a health threat, but their lifecycle also happens to be extreme interesting. Learning about them isn’t necessarily for the faint-hearted, but understanding how to identify them can be beneficial to your pet’s health, as well as extremely fascinating.

Worm Length

The most common worms in dogs usually grow to being about seven inches and these are known as roundworms. The other type of worm that you will commonly see in dogs is the hookworm. Compared to their roundworm siblings, these are a lot smaller. Complications of tissue migration are less frequent as a result of this.

Colouring and Shape

There are similarities between the colouring and shape of worms in dogs. Expect them to be tan to white in colour, as well as a spaghetti shape. You may see worms that are short, red and flat in colouring; these are tapeworms. You will normally find tape worms in the dog’s faeces if they have an infection. Consult a vet immediately if you find what you think are tapeworms.

Where To Look

Once you know what worms in dogs look like, you will be ready to start keeping an eye out for them in your pet and to identify what sort of worm infestation they have. Knowing where to look is important.

Worm infestations in dogs can be spotted in their vomit and their faeces. Dogs will pass worms whole in their stool, so make sure you check it regularly. Part of a worms lifecycles involves infesting near the throat. This may result in them being vomited. Always give your dog’s vomit a quick once over for worms.

The risks posed by worms to a dog’s health can be minimised once you know how to look for them.

Plaque, if not removed, eventually hardens into calculus or tartar, and can ultimately lead to periodontal disease. If left untreated, periodontal disease is the single greatest cause of health problems in pets. Regular veterinary check-ups and professional “dental cleanings” are an important first defense in controlling and preventing periodontal disease.Routine home dental care is equally important in helping keep your pet and its teeth healthy.
Dog health care isn’t something that only becomes an issue when your dog starts to display symptoms of being unwell, as this article will explain. Keeping the health care ball rolling is imperative in maintaining a healthy, happy dog.

Lack of Symptoms

A dog can be ill without actually displaying any symptoms. For example, dogs will only display the symptoms of worms when they are in their latter stages of development.

Nutrition

Prevention is easier than finding solutions when it comes to a dog’s health. Maintaining a dog’s health is something you can have an active role in. Part of this is ensuring your dog has a nutritional diet.

A dog’s ideal diet depends entirely upon its age. Adults, puppies and senior dogs have different nutritional requirements. Making sure you are servicing your dog’s nutritional requirements will keep the health care ball rolling.

Regular Checks

A dog needs a yearly ‘MOT’ regardless of its age and health, just like a car. An annual trip to the vet will make sure your dog is always in perfect health and fully vaccinated.

You can also play a role in making sure your dog is healthy. Keep a close eye on your dog’s eating, drinking and toilet habits and look out for anything unusual. Check for lumps under their skin regularly and check their nose, eyes and ears for signs of unusual discharge.

You know your dog better than anyone; contact your vet if they’re not acting their ‘usual self’.

We all know the benefits of fiber in our own diet, but is their any benefits of fiber in a dog’s diet? Fiber was consider filler and bulk in year’s past, but today, the nutritive value of fiber in the dog’s diet is ultimately realized. It;’s an essential part of a diet featuring natural dog food.

What exactly is fiber? It is a part of carbs. Fiber isn’t highly digestible by the body. Your dog’s diet can benefit from fiber in suitable amounts. Just like humans, too much fiber in a diet can have negative effects on the digestive system. It is always important to monitor your dog’s diet to maintain a good level of fiber to fit your pet’s wants. Speak with your vet about the benefits of fiber in your dog’s diet.

Obedience is prevalent in both humans and pets. Too often, pet’s become oversized. Fiber in your dog’s diet is a terrific way to help your pet lose excess weight. Maintaining a good weight is crucial to the longevity and quality of your dog’s life. We all know that fiber can’t accomplish weight control by itself, nonetheless it can really make a difference. Fiber helps keep your dog feeling full and content without large amounts of calories.

The pets who achieve the specified weight goal may need a little more fiber in the dog’s diet to maintain the required weight. Combining fiber with strict portion control, you will be in a position to make an organic dog food that is healthy and gratifying for your pet.

Again, similar to humans, constipation does happen in pets. Your dog’s diet should contain fiber to help forestall this medical problem from happening. As your dog ages, his or her diet should contain elevated levels of fiber. Senior dogs tend to deal with issues of trots more often than their younger counterparts. For this reason, you may note higher fiber content in senior dog diets.

How does fiber help keep things moving? Fiber soaks up water. With the absorption of water in the fiber, the contents in the intestinal duct have more bulk. This is what can cause the movement along the intestinal tract. The passage time through the bowel becomes more normalized and regular.

Healthy amounts of fiber in your dog’s diet will contribute to fecal consistency. You’ll know when your pet is getting the correct quantity of fiber when your dog alleviates himself constantly. Too much fiber in your dog’s diet will end up in loose and sloppy stools.

Some reports say a slight increase in fiber can help in the management of diabetes mellitus. The fiber helps to control blood sugar levels by slowing the assimilation of sugar from the intestines.

Take note that unwarranted amounts of fiber can have negative is affecting on your dog’s health. Because of this, it’s critical to buy high-quality dog food from reputable companies to ensure a good diet for your dog. Watch for these sources of fiber in your dog’s diet. Beet pulp, soybean hulls, rice bran, apple and tomato pomace, and peanut hulls. Grain such as oats and rice are also examples of indigestible fiber.

Fiber does have benefits in your dog’s diet when used in moderation. Talk with your vet about the best quantity of fiber for your pet.
.

The use of vitamins for a dog’s nutritional needs is getting more commonplace as dog owners discover their advantages to dog Health. A dog’s relative quicker aging process heightens the results of nutriments augmented through vitamins added to a dog’s diet. A majority of canines are fed commercially produced foods, many of which do not provide for the complicated diet requirements of dogs. These dog foods do offer a good base for a dog’s diet however it is unfeasible for these foods to provide many nutrient elements that help a dog’s physiology. Even those dog foods considered in the upper echelon of quality foods don’t always cover all the bases for every dog’s nutritional needs.

Factors that affect the particular nutritional necessities of a dog would be age, size, breed, and daily activity. All dog’s will benefit from a regular supplement beginning as puppies. Bone growth and condition, vision, metabolism and joint health are significantly helped by including vitamins in dog’s diet. Vital to choosing key vitamins for your hound is choosing daily supplements that utilize tissue ready forms of nutrient elements. A majority of dog supplements are products designed for humans repackaged for pets. These supplements provide a small fraction of the health benefits as nutriments that are specially designed for a dog’s biology.

As an example glucosamine and chondroitin are becoming generally known for their highly valuable health benefits to humans and dogs. However humans benefit from glucosamine extracted from shell fish while a dog’s biology requires Glucosamine derived from the fungus Aspergillus Niger. Glucosamine supports a dog’s joint health by turbocharging the volume and density of the synovial fluid surrounding the joints, allowing the joint’s surface to be guarded and induced to heal when damaged. Healthy and intact joints support complete bone health, thereby encouraging extended healthy movement for an active dog.

A dog’s vitality and health is buttressed by many of the well known vitamins. Vitamin C is excellent for the skin, fights off infection and helps to maintain the immunological reaction. Together with vitamin D, it helps in the natural production of collagen which fortifies ligaments and tendons. B-12 helps to keep up the appetite and vitamin E has anti-inflammatory benefits while boosting the condition of the foot pads. Antioxidants provide curative features while acting as a natural protection against illness.

Beginning a healthy regime for young dogs and continuing the routine through adulthood gives a healthy foundation from which the dogs body can grow and age with the absolute best state of health. Vitamins for dog health work to sustain not simply the present condition of the dog, but also help to stop the development and onset of many sicknesses. Today’s dog food mixed with modern veterinarian care is providing dogs the longest life-span they have ever experienced. For that reason dogs need to be feed high quality daily supplements prepared with synergistic mixes of nutrients that support their natural physical vitality and health.

When choosing vitamins for dog nourishment, it is extremely important to consider only those formulated for canines. Human vitamins might be damaging for dogs due to express diet need, requirements and the chance of overdose. Be looking for needless added fillers and select only those vitamins with the best ingredients. In order to provide the very best life, quality food should be accompanied by top of the range vitamins, plenty of clean water and daily exercise.

Dogs are durable animals, for this reason an overall majority of owners refuse to see the importance of a regular cleanliness program for their hounds. Unlike humans who are constantly among other people and able to contrast the condition of their cleanliness, the average dog is rarely associating with other dogs. So the steady decline in dog’s cleanliness such as the buildup of plaque on their teeth or ever increasing poor coat texture may continue throughout a dog’s life without a lot of notice. Owners should create a schedule for performing their dog’s hygiene care jobs. The structure of having a calendar will help owners develop the discipline it takes to follow thru and perform the assorted tasks of canine hygiene care. There are four areas, teeth and gums, skin and coat, ears, and nails. Fortuitously canine medical care products now exist which decreases the time and effort while considerably skyrocketing the results . Select products that utilize naturally sourced ingredients, this helps avoid upsetting or deadly complications, while still achieving successful results.

Oral hygiene is performed by few dog owners, as a consequence periodontal disease has effects on over ninety percent of dogs. Beyond a dog’s bad breadth, harmful bacteria that results from unhealthy gums and teeth can travel into a dog’s bloodstream troubling the fitness of the heart, kidney, and liver. The preventative health advantages of maintaining healthy teeth and gums can be significant as well as avoiding pricey canine dentistry from your vet. Select products which exploit plant enzymes such as lysozyme to break down the tarter on the teeth. Also ingredients such as mint will keep your hounds breath smelling good.

Skin and Coat health is highly reflective of dog’s health generally. While humans tend to experience upper breathing symptoms responding to allergens, dogs experience intense itching caused by inflammation in their skin. Nutritional health products reduce dietary sensitivities and improve a dog’s immune system which influences skin and coat health. Naturopathic shampoos can clean the coat improving your dog’s odor and health of their skin. Select a nutritional supplement that aids your dog’s digestion like VitaHound Daily Supplement, you’ll be able to find this product at the www.vitahound.com web site.

The ear canal of dog is intrinsically subject to the buildup of wax. A relatively long ear canal mixed with the disposition of a dog’s ear to flop down and cover the ear proscribing the healthful flow of air makes a dog’s ear prone to diseases. A dog’s balance, like many animals is dependent on the nerves in the inner ear that connect to the brain. The increase of wax could cause illnesses that damage the nerves in a dog’s ear. Once every week cleaning will deodorize the ears, and protect against infection. The product you use should contain natural anti-bacterial and anti-fungal ingredients together with oils that fit with a dog’s ear natural flora to prevent disproportionate drying. Examples of a natural antibiotic cleanser is the ingredient echinacea purpure, and to prevent drying look for natural oils also in the formula.

A dog’s nails are potentially the easiest to maintain. The claws on the rear feet are usually shorter and need less frequent trimming than those on the front feet. Always remember to trim the dew claws that are located on the inner surface. A dog’s nail is composed of 2 parts, the fast which contains veins and is the base of the nail. The toe nail is the end of the nail and contains no blood vessels, this is the part you trim off, make sure you know the way to identify the toe nail on your breed. Trimming into a dog’s quick causes agony and will bleed. Use guillotine type clippers to handle this job. Trim your dog’s nails on a schedule that doesn’t allow them to grow more than an one / eight in., this makes it simpler to trim the right amount each time.

VitaHound’s research staff provides an information rich platform for dog lovers. Our hundreds of articles on dog health allow owners to develop the knowledge they need to become a strong advocate for their beloved dog’s health care. Our readers become experts in areas such as cleaning dog teeth permitting them to communicate clearly with their vets on the subject and various other dog health subjects.

The heavy rate of canine cancer has been commonly accepted as a natural and relatively inevitable end to a dog’s life. It seems dog and human cancers are terribly similar, so dog health benefits from human research. More and more human research is being applied to hypotheses on how dogs can avoid developing cancer. Owners who implement preventive measures may noticeably reduce the odds of their dog developing cancer. Research now shows the efficacy of nutritional vitamins in combination with a good diet in preventing many canine persistent diseases. Research indicates as much as one-out-of-three cancer deaths both in humans and dogs may be evaded by adjusting nutriments in the diet. Dog health has much to gain by applying proved human nutrition elements to the modern dog diet.

The essential fatty acids ( EFA’s ) have received heaps of attention for their health benefits, however the combinations and types are very important to whether or not their effects are positive or negative. The Omega-6 fatty acid a. K. A linoleic acid ( LA ) found in corn oil, plant based oil and grain feed red beef is said to be a major contributor to the development of canine cancer. Too much omega-6 can cause inflammation, making the biological conditions conducive to developing cancer. A dog’s diet loaded in omega 6 without the correct proportion of omega three fatty acids suppress cells known as T cells that are key in the bodys natural technique for fighting cancer. The healthy proportion of omega 6 to omega three is 4-to-1 however the modern dog diet approaches 15-to-1, the damage to long term dog health is supported by the fifty percent canine cancer rate.

Omega-6 fatty acids have expanded to both pet and human processedk food ingredients. The appeal to snack food manufactures is the compatibility with the taste objectives, for pet food it gives a cheap way to add caloric energy values. The simplest and first thing dog owners should do to prevent the overload of LA is to discontinue feeding all human and pet snack foods to your dog. Credible commercial dog foods typically contain enough nutriments, including essential fatty acids, to supply a dog’s body with healthy levels of the nutrients needed for top health. So the second step thinks dog owners are best served by continuing to feed their dogs a top quality dog food, with the stipulation that a daily dog nutrition supplement is used to create healthy levels of EFA’s.

Dog food contains lots of cereal grain which is high in omega-6 fatty acids and low in omega-3s. Nutrients which help a dog’s digestive process as well as including substances that have a high omega-3 nutrient content can improve a dog food’s deficiencies. Omega-6 fatty acids are vital to the healthiness of dog’s coat and skin, so instead of looking to eliminate LA use supplements to lend a hand in creating healthy proportions of omega-6 for dogs feed a standard dog food. My research leads me to believe almost all dog owners are best served by picking a quality dog food, other techniques like BARF over simplify the intricacy of providing the necessary nutrients to maintain a dog’s health. For that reason dog vitamin additions should be used to fill in the deficiencies of dog food, permitting dog owner’s to utilize the value commercial dog food provides.

I’m part of the VitaHound research team, our mission is to develop nutritional supplements that seriously improve Dog Health. Our current product is the premiere Dog Supplements in the bizz.

The no 1 health problem with our pets is becoming a big issue with dogs. Dog’s modern diet and health care is getting better, as a result our dogs are living longer. The modern diet is shaping up the standard of nutrients our dogs are consuming and furnishing them with longer lives ; however the rise in grain products and shortage of bone is causing canine’s oral health to decline. The additional years in a dog’s life is permitting periodontal gum disease to reach levels that are really perilous and unpleasant to an old dog. Vets may be able to treat dogs with assorted stages of periodontal disease however straightforward preventative measures performed by owners at home are the most useful oral care for canines. A fast effect that should motivate most owners is your dog will have great breath.
Fortunately dog’s infrequently get cavities or structural damages to the tooth, dog’s oral care is mainly influenced by bacteria that collect along the gum line forming plaque. If the plaque is not removed minerals in a dog’s spit mix with the plaque and form tarter ( calculus ) which also forms a protecting surface causing its removal to become troublesome. Because plaque begins to mineralize after 3-5 days, daily care is the most useful preventive care for avoiding the need for more extensive treatments from a veterinarian. Dogs who do not receive any oral care at home will develop periodontal disease. Tarter causes inflammation called gingivitis, this condition leads to bone lose in the part of the tooth that anchors it to the gums. As space develops between the tooth and gums pockets form that buildup unhealthy bacteria. Bacteria can now enter the bloodstream thru these infected areas as well as the periodontal ligament.

Do you have a brand new pup that seems to be acting badly? Or maybe the much loved pet dog you have had for quite some time is displaying peculiar signs and symptoms and acting out in a number of ways. Usually, dogs which might be coping with anxiety and strain have a tendency to act out in ways that we would explain as negative actions. Eliminating these kinds of actions can be a issue of a straightforward item that you could purchase, like the DAP Diffuser as an example. Here, we’ll go over normal conducts and signs and symptoms involving dog panic and feasible suggestions and methods to help eliminate the situation.

There are several signs to consider that might advise you that your dog is experiencing stress and anxiousness. Watch for things like extreme barking, whimpering, licking as well as moaning and panting when your dog is in deep hardship. Nobody wants to observe their family pet sad and these incidences could be very stress filled on pet owners because of this as well.

Normal situations that could cause strain and anxiety to your dog might be thunderstorms, outings to the vet, vacationing and riding in a car and the introduction associated with new people to the home, to name a few examples. Some puppies may display signs and symptoms associated with anxiousness each time they are in a new or uncommon scenario. This truly depends a lot on the total disposition and general psychological health of your family pet.

Amongst probable useful methods to help with these types of actions and total tension ranges within your dog would be the DAP diffusers mentioned above. DAP goods additionally are available in sprays and collars as well.

DAP means dog appeasing pheromone and this is actually the chemical present in lactating female dogs that is known to relax the puppies when they are becoming pressured and troubled. The DAP items copy this particular smell and seems to have exactly the same impact on the puppies and grown dogs as the true pheromone found in the actual dogs.

Should your dog appears to be much more stressed about separation anxiety than other things, there are several other activities that you might look at. Be sure that your pet is having ample exercise. Sometimes, merely adding a regular walk during your own schedule can alleviate much of the issue with this kind of panic. Physical exercise does wonders for the dog and they additionally love to spend more time with their owners.

Yet another achievable way to help ease panic might be to think about finding a second family pet. Obviously this isn’t a thing to be considered lightly because two animals will demand much more work and there is the potential of having anxiety issues with an extra dog as well. There is the chance though that the animals would do perfectly with each other and relieve the strain that they might feel separately when left without their owners.

Regardless of whether you decide to expose the soothing dog pheromone to your family pet, opt to take up a regular workout or choose to obtain another dog, we are aware that your canine’s wellness is of great importance for you. Providing peacefulness to your dog can certainly help pass into a much more tranquil household.

When buying a new puppy it is important to think carefully about where you buy it from. Buying a puppy from the wrong place could leave you dealing with all types of dog health care problems. This is because of the risk that you might unknowingly buy a puppy from a puppy farm.

Puppy farms and their owners show no regard for dog health care.On the contrary the puppies that come from them are rarely healthy. Those puppies who have been farmed frequently fall victim to physical and psychological illness. They also frequently demonstrate problem behaviour.

These problems are down to the conditions in which these puppies are kept.Because puppy farms are just breeding facilities with profit as the only concern, the dogs are kept in poor conditions. The dogs have almost no contact with humans and are not able to move around or exercise.

Health wise the dogs suffer too. Mother dogs are malnourished because of the poor quality food they are fed in only the smallest amounts. Females are forced to breed as often as they physically can from the age of four months onwards, only being allowed to stop when they die or become too ill. Mothers and puppies alike are left unwell because of such frequent breeding. Puppies are removed from their mother’s care too early so that she may be forced to have another set. This, coupled with a lack of contact with humans leads to dog health care problems and behavioural disorders.

Unfortunately, shop-bought puppies are almost certainly sourced from puppy farms, so it is not a good idea to buy from pet shops. Newspaper and internet adverts are also dubious. This is why anybody considering buying a puppy from an advert should insist on seeing the puppies with their mother and even the father if possible. If the seller makes excuses about the whereabouts of the mother then they should not be trusted.Farmed puppies might be offered cheaper than the going rate, but the saving is next to nothing when extra future vet bills, behavioural problems and heart break are taken into account. No reputable breeder would touch farmed puppies, so asking for recommendations from other dog owners is a good idea.

If you have a pet dog then you always want the best for it. Most dog owners are also unable to resist the temptation to feed their pets scraps of human food from the table thinking that they are being kind. If you do do this you should stop and think for a moment: many human foods are seriously toxic to dogs and could lead to dog health care emergencies.

A classic example of a type of food that we people regularly enjoy but that is very dangerous to dog health care is chocolate.A lot of people are aware that it isn’t good for dogs, but it is actually very dangerous for dogs to eat. Some of the problems that it causes are much faster heart rate, hallucinations, diarrhoea, seizures, internal bleeding, heart attacks and potentially even death. Because even a small chocolate bar could be enough to kill a dog, depending on its size, it really isn’t worth taking the risk. If your dog eats chocolate you should try and make it sick and consult a vet as soon as possible.

Grapes and raisins are not conducive to dog health care, so it is lucky that most dogs aren’t so inclined to eat them anyway. If a dog eats a big enough quantity of grapes or raisins is eaten then a dog will suffer kidney failure and most likely death. Some sizes and breeds of dog can eat more grapes or raisins than others, but it is much better to avoid the dog health care risk.

Macadamia nuts and onions also pose a threat to dog health care.Ingesting them may lead to stiffness, shaking, hyperthermia and abdominal pain.

We don’t often see drunk dogs, but a dog that has been drinking alcohol will behave in a comparable way to a drunken human. Obviously, jus tlike it does to humans, alcohol can leave a dog feeling very poorly. However, should the dog have drunk beer specifically, then there is a another problem. The hops found in beer are dangerous to dog health care. The hops cause malignant hyperthermia which very often leads to death.Again, the dog’s tolerance of the hops is affected by breed, with greyhounds known for their intolerance to hops.

Whilst as a dog owner you may be confident that you are familiar with general dog health care, it is important to follow this advice to keep your furry friend in the best shape.

For anyone who is lucky enough to have a canine included in your family, then you are definitely worried about your precious puppy’s well being. A standard problem among dog owners is that of parasites, specifically the different types of worms that may occupy dwelling inside your dog. In this post, we will go over the signs and symptoms, treatments and recommendations for this common issue.

Drontal Plus Canine is probably the most reliable deworming drugs to give to your dog. This kind of medication will cover the elimination of all the types of worms including tapeworms. roundworms, hookworms and whipworms.

You need to go to the vet to acquire a prescription for this medication, but he or she should be able to detect it right away.

There are many ways to know if your canine possesses worms, not one of which are particularly enjoyable to look at. If your dog is displaying any kind of signs and symptoms such as throwing up, weight loss, or blood in his stool you should first examine the stool to check for the existence of worms or worm sections. This could be a fairly typical way to tell if your canine has worms.

If you do notice worms, we advice that you do get your dog to the vet even though you will find drugs accessible that do not require a prescription. These over-the-counter drugs might be damaging to your dog if the correct dosage is not given. Also, some dog worms can only be eliminated with a medication like the Drontal Plus that the vet will need to prescribe.

Even when you do see the worms with your own eye, you should gather a sample of your pet’s stool to take to the vet because there are occasionally tiny worms that may only be observed using the microscope. Your vet will probably also do a blood test because some microscopic worms such as heartworm could be lethal when they are not caught and taken care of in a well-timed matter.

Generally a single dose of the given medication, would be a highly effective remedy for all the main parasites that could be creating the problem. The type of medication mentioned here consists of Praziquantel, Pyrantel Pamoate and Febantel as its main elements. Praziquantel is primarily used to combat tapeworms, the most common in canines being the Dipylidium caninum. Pyrantel Pamoate generally treats against roundworms and hookworms. This is the component that leads to sudden contraction and paralysis of the worm. Febantel is the portion that’s highly effective against whipworm. If you use Drontal on it’s own minus the Plus it does not include the Febantel and would not heal for whipworms, so it is critical to have this also.

It will actually be a pretty common occurrence for your canine to possess worms at some time or another during his life span. It’s nothing to become extremely troubled or worried about as it can be taken care of very efficiently. Simply keep an eye on your canine for the signs and symptoms previously mentioned and be sure to take him to the vet for his regular appointments and this should be something that you’ll not really need to bother about.

There is almost nothing we all love more than our household pets. High on that list may be the household puppy and we all attempt to provide an environment which is healthy, comfy as well as fun. If the dog is not resting properly through the night, this might not be a good thing for anyone inside the household. In this post, we’ll discuss the need for picking just the right dog bed for your pet. Particularly we will emphasize Big Shrimpy beds which is an eco-friendly business that we love for that reason and much more.

Most puppies, even when they are very people friendly, like a quiet location to relax. Thus, you should truly take the time when considering the very best option for your canine’s resting habits. This depends on a number of things, most of which are comfort relevant for the dog, and others that will be related to your style tastes, performance and ease of use.

Certainly, the first factors will be the size of your dog. This can mostly establish the style and price of the bed that you select. If the dog is very tiny, there will be a lot more choices to select from. A larger dog will need more space and the Big Shrimpy dog beds mentioned here do include all dimensions which includes extra large so there’s plenty of room for the canine to settle in for the night even when he has the regular practice of shifting about quite a bit prior to discovering that ideal place to lay his head.

Start by noticing your dog’s resting habits. If your dog is one that likes to sprawl himself out at night while he sleeps, you’ll probably want something rectangular in shape and a mattress which does not include small walls to impede his movements. If, however, your pet likes to curl up when he sleeps, then a nest type bed would be the ideal choice as it will help him to feel the most secure and comfortable.

There’s an additional kind of bed known as a bolster bed which includes a higher back that encompasses part of the mattress. This is perfect for the puppy that hates being snuck up on while asleep or the pet that likes to have a bit of a pillow to relax his head on.

Small dogs may prefer dog beds which they could burrow in. There are several which mimic bean bags or large cozy cushions. Like all dog beds, these come in a variety of materials and colors and the majority are machine washable.

If your pet has a few physical issues or difficulties, you might want to look at several orthopedic or foam mattresses. Several specialty dog beds also include an option which enables them to be warmed up. This can be ideal for a canine with joint disease for instance.

To improve our health, one of the best things we can do is to get more exercise and to lose weight. At first, developing an exercise routine can seem daunting and it does require a lot of dedication. Friends can help to motivate you. Sadly, temptation will also be a problem for your friend. Perhaps the temptation of a lie in will be too much for them to resist and your exercise routine might slip down the priorities list. The solution is to find a partner who always feels like exercise.I’m talking about a dog.

Why not combine your own health with pet health? If you already have a dog, you should be walking him every day already. But you can always do more. Dog owners testify that it’s easy to do a short walk morning and night. In our country we’re lucky enough never to be far from a park or some countryside. There are many wonderful places to walk your dog. The countryside is more inspiring than the number 30 bus route.

Long country walks will do you and your canine friend good.Exercise lifts the mood, for people and animals. It’ll also help you in your quest to lose those last few pounds. You could also take advantage of the time walking to enjoy your dog’s company, or your fmaily’s if they come with you, or even get some peace. And it won’t cost you a penny.

Pet health and your health are vitally important. As is the relationship you and your dog share. I can’t think of a better way to take care of each other than to exercise together.

If you take the time to review the dog health advice available on the Internet or at your local library you will see that it is not just little baby humans that suffer from a risk of ear infections. It’s actually fairly easy to spot the warning signs that there might be trouble in there even without being an expert or taking your pet to the vet.

If you watch him or her you might notice that there is more head shaking than is typically normal for your pet. Maybe he or she is doing more scratching than you recall in and around the ears. While all mammals, humans alike will from time to time find the urge to scratch the ears. When it becomes more than normal then you should look into the causes.

It could be a dogs ear infection or it could be some form of parasitic infestation like mites or even something as mundane as having some severely dirty ears. But the only way that you are going to find out is to investigate and once you do it is fairly easy to get to the root of the issue and to come up with a combat plan to end the problem for your pet.

Dog health advice is everywhere and will help you to identify the culprit and find the appropriate solution should you decide to handle it yourself rather than visiting the vet. The bottom-line on an ear problem, whether it is an infection or an infestation is that it needs to be dealt with swiftly and decisively because the longer you take getting it taken care of the longer the dog is going to suffer and ultimately the more it is going to cost you to end it.

A dogs ear infection is something that is going to be best dealt with by using some form of medications. You really should bite the bullet here and take the canine to the vet. They are properly equipped to diagnose and handle the problem and they are the ones that will be able to make sure that it is completely taken care of so it does not reappear. Either way you need to be well informed and make sure that you take the dog health advice as seriously as if it were your own personal health.

Just like us humans dogs have an outer, middle and an inner ear and there are different types of dog ear infections that can be present in those various places. This is yet another of the reasons that a vet is your best option and its difficult to find the dog health symptoms. He can make sure that he is treating the right area.

You will notice or find that the dogs that are most susceptible to this type of issue are ones like the cocker spaniel and other dogs that tend to have floppy droop over ears. They tend to also be the hardest to treat because the ear continually covers the area and getting it to stay clean during treatment can be a difficult task.

If you own a dog and are a responsible pet owner, you will most likely either know what things can affect your dog or what dog health symptoms you are going to look into it at some point during the life of your pet.

The first thing of dog health advice is to start with a clean bill of health from your vet. Make an appointment and make sure that you are at a point where there are no issues with the dog. This way you know that anything strange or unusual in your pet’s behavior pattern that pops up will be cause for concern.

One of the most common dog health symptoms that your dog might face during its life is a run it with parasitic infestations. These can cause all sorts of issues and diseases in your dog. There are parasites that attack the outside of the pet as well as internal varieties that can cause everything from discomfort to death. The external ones you are familiar with, fleas, ticks lice and mites are but a few. You can help to spot and control these pests with regular brushing and grooming of your animal. The best indication that your pet might be infested is that he or she will be constantly scratching especially on the chest and in the immediate area of the ears. Treatment options will vary and you can get this information from your vet when you discuss the dog health issues with him or her.

The internal parasites that can infest your pet are actually harder to detect and cure. These particularly nasty pests usually, though not always, are passed to your pet from another animal. So it is best to keep your pet away from areas where stray animals can wonder and / or come into contact with your pet. These internal parasites include Whipworms, Tapeworms, Hookworms, Heartworms and Roundworms. They are easily capable of causing a rather rapid and untimely death so you need to identify and deal with them as quickly as you can.

The treatment for this can range from baths with medicine to shots or the applications of cream and regular oral type medication such as pills.

Rabies, which is a disease transmitted through the exchange of saliva or spit,

Actually is the one disease that causes the most concern because there is no cure or treatment available.

Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Paraifluenzan and Leptospirosis are less common and not deadly today although they are still a huge concern.

This is a pretty open ended question and one that could easily fill volumes of text which we do not have. We are going to highlight some things that might prove to be helpful and hopefully enlightening and will prove to be useful as far as dog health advice to those of you that are new to pet ownership and might even shock some of you that have owned a dog your entire life.

So why do dogs get sick? Well for a good majority of them it happens because of two factors. The weather is one of them. If the family pooch is left out in inclement weather they are definitely more prove to getting sick. They are mammals just like us and if you were to say leave them outside in the driving fall rain and they get soaked and then the temperature freezes and they are still out there. There is a good chance that they will at the very least come down with some type of cold.

The second most common reason for a sick dog is by human error. Dogs are known for sniffing around and getting into things. It is what dogs do. That makes them very susceptible to becoming sick from ingesting something that they shouldn’t. Environmental poisons left by the people that are their masters. Things like household bleach or antifreeze left in the garage. All of these things can make dogs get sick at the very least and can cause a very painful and ugly death.

So a really good piece of dog health symptoms is to make sure that anything that is down where the animal can get to it is something that won’t make you sick. That equates to using the common sense that you have acquired over your lifetime.

While it is true that a dog can eat things that would normally make a human as sick as, well – a dog – it is still not a good idea. I have seen my neighbors give rancid meat to their pet. Food that could actually be smelled from a few yards away and smelled really bad. The dog ate it, later he seemed to have to poop more than normal but no other ill effects. But why take the chance of killing something that you love? My rule of thumb is that if it is human food that I would not eat myself, it hits the trash and not my dog.
Water is another thing that can cause illness. Dogs like to lap up water wherever they find it. However standing pools of water can hold lots of disease-ridden things. SO another good piece of dog health advice here would be to make sure that your pet has a good supply of fresh water to drink.

If you are going to be gone for some period of time and your puppy is an outdoor dog the least you can do is arrange for someone to feed and water him while you are gone, or even better – look into an automatic feeder and water dispenser to solve the problem and help keep him fed and healthy.

How To Deal With Dog Health

If you notice that Rover’s behaviour has altered it is always worrying. However, a depressed manner in dog may actually be a sign of a fever. He may show a general listlessness, be unwilling to move from his bed. A common indication is a lack of desire to eat and drink. His eyes may appear dull and he’ll show no interest in his normal activities: such as walking, playing with his toys, or playing merry hell with your slippers.

Dog Health
If you touch Rover around the ears or the nose he may feel hot. Just as with humans a fever will raise the overall temperature to combat infections from bacteria, viruses and ingested toxins, the same is true of dogs. In humans touching the skin will ascertain if the temperature is raised. However, a dog’s temperature is normally 3 degrees above that of a human: somewhere between 37.8°C (100°F) and 39.3°C (102.7°F). So Rover will naturally feel warm; but to a human touch how warm is warm? Rover is not in a position to speak.

Dog Health
He may also be showing more serious signs of illness such as an itch which he’ll be scratching; he might find it painful to move; he may even have diarrhoea and vomiting. Unfortunately only a trained professional can tell by touching a dog if there is a fever; and even then they will know that the surest way of telling is with a thermometer.

Dog Health
When taking the temperature of a child, the thermometer can be inserted under the tongue or under the arm. Not really possible for Rover: it’s usually done rectally with animals. Not pleasant for either of you. Make it easier on your poor sick pooch with some lubricant, like petroleum jelly. Reassure him as well, as he’s really not having a pleasant day. It would also be best to keep a thermometer for his personal use.

A temperature slightly above 102°F might indicate only a mild fever, and as with humans, this is not necessarily a bad thing: a mild illness often helps to boost the immune system. Therefore generally Rover should be kept comfortable, insuring that he doesn’t dehydrate. The temperature should be monitored at regular intervals to see if it alters. It should also be noted that faeces may be the causing a false reading, so it’s best to check after Rover has relieved himself. If the temperature begins to rise, or is taken at 105°F or above then this indicative of a serious illness and requires immediate consultation with a vet.

If you have decided to serve your dog nutritious natural dog food there are numerous factors you should consider. Check the labels and choose items that have no or very little processed food substances in them. Processed food typically loses a significant amount of the nutrients your dog needs in order to stay healthy. Look for a natural dog food that has fresh meat or meat meal as its main sources of protein.

Carbohydrates and Grains

Try to avoid products that contain high levels of carbohydrates and grains due to the weight increase they will likely produce in your dog as well as health problems. Select a dog food that lists vegetables and perhaps fruits on the label since these types of food items typically contain antioxidants and vitamins that will contribute to the health of your pet. Natural dog foods that place beneficial sources of fats in their products such as fish oil or sunflower oil are good choices for your pet. Fish oils typically contain essential fatty acids and often contain digestive enzymes which help to maintain your dog’s healthy condition.

Most pet experts believe that natural pet foods are healthy for your animals and will contribute to a long lifespan when compared to basic pet food. Natural dog foods usually contain mostly whole foods and they typically only use natural substances to preserve the food products. They are usually void of meat by-products, high quantities of corn and flour. They contain whole grains as opposed to fragments of grains that are typically found in dog food products available at grocery stores.

Fresh Food

Natural dog foods are usually made with fresh food products which contain higher levels of natural enzymes and antioxidants as well as a variety of minerals. Quality dog foods typically use highly advanced coking procedures to ensure that the important nutrients are not destroyed during the cooking process. Raw natural vegetables and fruits contain more nutrients and vitamins than cooked vegetables and fruits.

Some veterinarians suggest feeding your dog a natural raw food diet, at least for some of his meals. Some veterinarians believe that health problems such as allergies and inflammatory bowel diseases can be prevented or eliminated by feeding your dog a raw food diet. Raw food diets can also be effective at reducing or eliminating numerous chronic diseases and degenerative diseases. In order to keep your dog healthy and active you might want to feed him healthy natural dog food.

Most dog owners in America have not arranged for cat health insurance, and I’m not quite sure why. We all know just how important it is to have insurance; so it makes sense that we should consider pet care insurance to protect our pets.

It may at first sound like just another regular expense; that is until those dog owners are face to face with the expensive vet bills after their pet has an accident or gets sick. With everything around us increasing in cost, it is not surprising that vet fees have also risen as well; of course the knock-on effect has been a rise in vip pet insurance premiums. That being said, policies are much more affordable than you might discover.

The rising cost of cheap pet insurance is one point to consider but is there any others to consider? Unfortunately, dogs become sick from time to time or are involved in an accident. This can happen at any time and usually does when you can least afford it!

If this situation should occur, sometimes hardchoices have to be made; you know that treating your animal will place financial strain on you.

This happened to me a few years ago when I was looking at spending 500 dollars to save my dog; although he is a part of my family, I did wonder at the time, if the cost was worth it. Successful treatment in these instances is never guaranteed; animals do not always survive after a course of treatment.

Keeping your dog healthy is a large financial responsibility; when money problems occur, temporary or otherwise, this causes further worries. Been there, done that. The worst of it is when you realized you had an opportunity to make a different decision that would have changed it all.

Don’t let it get to that point. Both you and your dog deserve that much, in the very least.

If you love your dog, it should have the best treatment you can afford; owners with vip pet insurance do not have these concerns because they have whatever treatment they need. A cheap pet insurance plan does not have cost the earth; for around 20-40 dollars per month cost of medical care is assured. Make sure you research the companies well before making a decision. You want to fully understand what is and what is not covered. You don’t want to discover that in an emergency situation. This is for piece of mind, not to create more questions.

Some pet insurance providers can arrange pet health care policies to meet certain needs; perhaps to incorporate more than one pet on the same plan. If you are a dog owner then perhaps this article has given you something to think about. And with a bit of luck this information will have convinced you of the importance of becoming educated on having your pet protected.
