Human nutrition varies from animal nutrition in many ways.Animals tend to have a much more limited diet than we do.

Animals tend to be classed in two distinct categories; meat eaters (carnivores) or grass/straw grazers (herbivores).Humans are classed as omnivores and a small number of animals fall into this category. The majority of our pets prefer to bulk eat, making them more like humans who will eat set meals rather than constantly grazing throughout the day. This means that the animal is capable of consuming and digesting large amounts of food at specific times.

In today’s modern world many of us understand the importance of human nutrition, but do not necessarily place the same importance on our pets’ nutritional needs. Just like humans, an animal needs a good balance of vitamins in order to remain healthy.A good quality pet food is the best way to ensure your pet is receiving a good daily balance of vitamins and minerals.Commercial pet food is perhaps the best way to feed your pet and by feeding a quality, vet approved product you can be sure that each bowl full is healthy and nutritious. The variety of pet food for sale is vast, with food targeted specifically to each animal and in some cases breed. You can get food for old pets, young pets, pets with dental problems – the choice is endless. Just don’t confuse regular food with the snacks and treats which are also available. Too many treats in any animals diet will only lead to one thing – weight gain.Quality branded pet food is now very good and more often than not is scientifically supported. Just make sure you are buying a good product and shop with a vet approved pet retailer rather than a supermarket as you are likely to find a more premium product.By feeding a good quality pet food you are doing your best to provide your pet with a healthy and nutritious diet.It is not necessarily the most expensive option that works best but the choice we make and the knowledge base we use for our particular breed of animal, bird or fish.

If you really care about the health of your animal you need to really have an understanding of pet nutrition.
Your little pet is totally reliant upon you to provide it with the vitamins and minerals it needs on a daily basis and by understanding your pets needs you will become a more responsible owner.

Being either a cat owner or a dog owner you will most likely know these 7 tips. But study shows that you are probably not aware of the importance of each them so in order for your pet to have the best possible health condition I am here to remind you.

* Movement: Both a pet cat and a pet dog will need for you to make them use their physics. Their body need exercise to function and the larger the pet’s body is the more exercise will be required.

* Exercise type: Most cats will want to stay outside and as long as you let it do that itll do the necessary physical activity that it needs. For dogs you need to take them for longer walk once, twice or even three times a day. If you can take them for a swim occasionally that would be beneficial as well.

* Nutrition amount: I know you want to do what best for your pet and spoiling them by giving them all they can eat will not benefit them at all. They will get fat and the excess fat will harm their health condition.

* Vitamins and minerals: Be sure to ask your VET what she recommends that you purchase for your pet. Some pet foods are better than others and you’ll most likely find that you can benefit from finding breed specific products.

* Love: Just like humans a pet will need love from you and from anyone else in your family. Without love a pet will lose the will to live just like a human would. Talk to your pet daily using happy words and make sure to keep a physical contact as well.

* Get pet insurance: Accidents do happen and if you have had a pet for a while you probably know that paying for medical bills, surgery and even the regular VET visits will cost you a small fortune. Pet insurance will in most cases take care of a larger part of that expenditure.

* Plan ahead: With a little planning you’ll get a long way when it comes to making sure that your pet stays healthy and vital for all of it’s life. Planning visits to the VET at regular intervals and to make sure that it gets the proper vaccines are just some of the things to put into a plan.

Your dog is your best friend so you need to make sure that your little pal is taken care of. That means that you want to ensure that they are getting the best dog food that you can get for them.

You cannot help but wonder, what is dog food made of? Well dog food is actually a mixture of plant and/or animal material that has been specifically defined for dogs to eat.

There is the traditional day by day food that you present your dog for meals day by day, as well as then there is special fodder that you might give your dog as a remedy at present and again. There are several dissimilar forms of dog food on the store so it is crucial to include a good|nice handle on the modes that are presented accessible for your particular friend.

Dry dog food is certainly popular with pet owners. It is very popular because of the price tag associated with it. It is typically less expensive than other types of food, and it has a fairly long shelf life. Dry dog food, or kibble, is basically made through a two-step process that involved extrusion and baking.

Wet dog food is also quite popular. Typically, you will find this wet dog food stored in a can. This food is significantly moister than other foods on the market. Typically, this type of food is higher in protein when compared with dry dog food, but it is worth noting that it is also higher in fat.

Recently, a recall was conducted to remove Natural Balance pet food from the retail market. An industrial chemical was found in some samples of the pet food and the recall was issued to prevent pets from becoming poisoned or injured from contaminated pet food. The suspected contaminate responsible for the Natural Balance pet food recall is a rice protein concentrate imported from China and used as an ingredient in certain types of pet food. The recall affected pet food for both dogs and cats.

What Caused The Recall?

The Natural Balance pet food recall is one of a number of recent pet food recalls linked to the industrial chemical, melamine. Melamine is a chemical used in the production of plastics and is sometimes used as a fertilizer in Asian countries. Although the chemical is not considered highly toxic, its presence is not allowed in either human or pet food. The US Food and Drug Administration suspects that melamine is responsible for sickening hundreds of household pets in the United States, including those who ate the contaminated Natural Balance pet food. The industrial chemical is said to cause liver failure in the pets it has sickened.

Including the recall of Natural Balance pet food, the number of recalled pet food products number over 100 million units. Only a small number of the recalled foods have been found to be contaminated and not every pet that ate food from the recalled brands have become sick. The contaminate has been found in both the rice protein concentrate and a wheat gluten concentrate manufactured in China and imported into the United States. Both items are used as ingredients in certain pet food items and were sold to a number of pet food manufacturers.

The company that manufactures Natural Balance pet food informed the US Food and Drug Administration that it had detected the presence of melamine in the rice protein concentrate imported from China that had been used as an ingredient in a variety of cat and dog foods that had been released to market. The Natural Balance pet food products that had been affected were hastily recalled and an alert was issued by the US Food and Drug Administration warning the public of the problem. The company no longer imports the rice protein concentrate from the manufacturer in China. To date, hundreds of pets have been sickened by the consumption of food contaminated with melamine and the investigation into the cause is ongoing.

In recent months, a Natural Balance pet food recall was issued to remove contaminated products from store shelves. The reason for the recall was that Natural Balance had discovered a chemical contamination in a number of the products that the company manufactures. To prevent a large number of pets from becoming ill or dying from eating the contaminated products, the Natural Balance pet food recall was issued quickly and products believed to be affected were removed from store shelves.

What Is Responsible For The Natural Balance Pet Food Recall?

The contaminate believe to be responsible for the Natural Balance pet food recall is an industrial chemical called melamine. Melamine is commonly used during the production of plastics and is sometimes used as a fertilizer in China and other Asian countries. The chemical is not approved for use in either human food or pet food and is believed to have caused severe kidney damage and kidney failure in pets who have eaten products contaminated with the chemical. Melamine was found in two ingredients commonly used in the manufacture of pet food; wheat gluten and rice protein concentrate. Both of these ingredients are used to add much needed protein to dog food, cat food, and some varieties of pet treats. All items containing these ingredients that could have been contaminated with melamine are on the list of recalled items.

The Natural Balance pet food recall is not the only pet food linked to a melamine contamination. Over 100 different brands of pet foods were added to the list of recalled items as the investigation into the contamination continued. Overall, nearly 100 million units of pet food and pet treats have been affected by the recall and the number of pet sickened or killed by the contaminated food remains unknown. The US Food and Drug Administration continues its investigation into the cause of the contamination and related pet deaths. In the meantime, pet owners are urged to obtain a list of items affected by the Natural Balance pet food recall and other pet food recalls. The items on these lists should be removed from the home immediately to prevent harm from coming to your pets.

Many retailers are offering refunds for the return of products affected by the Natural Balance pet food recall. The manufacturer acted quickly to minimize the damage caused by the contaminated pet food, but numerous pet deaths had been recorded before the source of the problem was discovered. If you suspect that your pet has consumed any of the items affected by the Natural Balance pet food recall and the pet begins to exhibit symptoms of kidney failure, such as lethargy, vomiting, and loss of appetite, emergency medical treatment should be obtained immediately to save the life of your pet.

Choosing nutritious pet food for your cat or dog can be very challenging when you walk down the store isle and see dozens if not hundreds of choices. Whichever product you choose, you expect it to be 100% Complete and Balanced Nutrition. And why not, it says so on the package.

So what is 100% Complete and Balanced Nutrition?

This distinction has more to do with marketing than with nutritional value. It’s merely a representation of the percentage of protein, fat, fiber, and moisture in the Guaranteed Analysis, plus added vitamins and minerals.

100% Complete and Balanced Nutrition and Guaranteed Analysis does not qualify the nutritional value of pet food! To determine the true nutritional value you need to examine the ingredients used.

Price vs. Value

You should question the nutritional value of a 50 lb bag of pet food that sells for $18 at the local supermarket and even less at super stores. Can you really trust it to have 100% Complete and Balanced Nutrition as the bag claims?

If price is a fair representation of value, is it reasonable to expect price to increase with better value?

Unlike a Rolls Royce automobile or Cartier diamond, which command premium prices because of the prestige of who sells them, there is no pet food manufacturer who has achieved the prestige to command premium pricing. Therefore, you should expect higher prices and more nutritional value in better pet foods.

Grain Protein vs. Meat Protein

Cheaper pet food ingredients have grain-based proteins like corn, wheat and soy to satisfy the Guaranteed Analysis. Pet food manufacturers will argue that grain protein is just as nutritious as meat protein.

Although grains do provide nutrition, many pet experts agree grains are a poor quality source of protein. Some pet health experts believe grains like corn, wheat and soy, put undue stress on the digestive system resulting in illnesses that normally develop later in a pet’s life.

Cats and dogs are meat eaters. Their digestive systems are designed for meat, not grains. Consider this, on the TV program Animal Planet, have you ever seen the big cats or wolves… hunt, stalk and kill… corn, wheat, or soy fields.

People vary their diet and meals every day to satisfy their desire for what they want to eat. Pets are usually fed the same food every day. Knowing the true nutritional value of your pet’s food is critical because they have no option but to eat what you feed them.

A Common Sense Solution for Choosing Pet Food

As you learn more about pet food nutrition, it’s reasonable to expect you to be confused and overwhelmed with all the information that is available.

I believe using the common sense approach that… In the marketplace, value and price work harmoniously together. Thus, we can reasonably conclude a 20 lb bag of $18 pet food has more nutritional value than a 50 lb bag of $18 pet food.

Cheaper pet foods use the ingredients corn, wheat, soy, by-products, and meat and bone meal. These ingredients are very inexpensive and thus are of the poorest nutritional quality. Better foods use less of these ingredients and the best use none.

Cats and dogs deserve the best pet food nutrition possible!

If you have decided to serve your dog nutritious natural dog food there are numerous factors you should consider. Check the labels and choose items that have no or very little processed food substances in them. Processed food typically loses a significant amount of the nutrients your dog needs in order to stay healthy. Look for a natural dog food that has fresh meat or meat meal as its main sources of protein.

Carbohydrates and Grains

Try to avoid products that contain high levels of carbohydrates and grains due to the weight increase they will likely produce in your dog as well as health problems. Select a dog food that lists vegetables and perhaps fruits on the label since these types of food items typically contain antioxidants and vitamins that will contribute to the health of your pet. Natural dog foods that place beneficial sources of fats in their products such as fish oil or sunflower oil are good choices for your pet. Fish oils typically contain essential fatty acids and often contain digestive enzymes which help to maintain your dog’s healthy condition.

Most pet experts believe that natural pet foods are healthy for your animals and will contribute to a long lifespan when compared to basic pet food. Natural dog foods usually contain mostly whole foods and they typically only use natural substances to preserve the food products. They are usually void of meat by-products, high quantities of corn and flour. They contain whole grains as opposed to fragments of grains that are typically found in dog food products available at grocery stores.

Fresh Food

Natural dog foods are usually made with fresh food products which contain higher levels of natural enzymes and antioxidants as well as a variety of minerals. Quality dog foods typically use highly advanced coking procedures to ensure that the important nutrients are not destroyed during the cooking process. Raw natural vegetables and fruits contain more nutrients and vitamins than cooked vegetables and fruits.

Some veterinarians suggest feeding your dog a natural raw food diet, at least for some of his meals. Some veterinarians believe that health problems such as allergies and inflammatory bowel diseases can be prevented or eliminated by feeding your dog a raw food diet. Raw food diets can also be effective at reducing or eliminating numerous chronic diseases and degenerative diseases. In order to keep your dog healthy and active you might want to feed him healthy natural dog food.

It is just as important for humans to consume good food as it is for the four legged variety which has led many pet owners to consider giving their pets natural pet food in order to ensure their better health. No doubt, using natural pet food is a change in direction from the meatballs and other non-vegetarian foods that the pets have become used to; but the health of the pets must be kept in mind when choosing a suitable diet for them.

Works Well With Humans, And Pets Are No Different

Even though pets may not exactly take to their natural pet food, with time and perhaps with some cajoling they will come to accept and take to their new diet. No doubt, natural food has had positive effects on people; so, there is no reason why it should not benefit pets as well. It will even prolong their lives and also keep them healthy.

The best part about giving your pet natural pet food is that there will not be any chemicals, and other artificial ingredients that they will be consuming that can actually harm the well-being of your pet. Besides, the growth of natural foods is also beneficial to the environment, which adds another reason why it should be used.

According to studies conducted on the benefits of giving your pet natural pet food, it has been seen that they are less at risk of becoming ill and will also stay free of disease as well. In fact, pets given to eating natural pet food have been seen to have become healthier with better coats and stronger teeth, and also more energy within them. It also leads to their living longer, which means that you can safely switch your dog to this form of diet, and see the difference in his health and attitude.

There is also natural pet food that is based on meat or, if you wish for your pet to remain a vegetarian, there are also vegetarian kinds which are also not costlier as compared with to its traditional food. All that you really need to do is head down to your pet store where natural pet food is stocked, and notice that there is a lot of variety available that in turn you can try out various foods to see what your pet loves the most and then switch him over to his favorite food.

As more and more pet owners are realizing the benefits of feeding their pets with a diet that consists only of natural pet food, there has also been a noticeable increase in the variety and also availability of such food which allows you to pick and choose what to feed your pet as far as organic food is concerned. And, if you really want an even wider variety of natural pet food to choose from, check out the Internet where there is no dearth of available choices.

There has been an ongoing debate about natural vs commercial dog food, one that is important for all dog owners to be aware of. After all, the food that you feed your dog is going to have a major aspect on your pet’s overall health, so you want to make sure that you choose the best food possible.

Natural

When it comes to natural vs commercial dog food, there are advantages and disadvantages to both. One of the most major advantages to natural dog food is that you know you are giving your dog only the purest most natural ingredients possible. This means your dog will have better digestion and be less likely to get diarrhea or constipation.

Commercial

Commercial dog food tends to have more additives and preservatives, and although still provides your dogs with essential vitamins and nutrients, at the same time are filling your dog with ingredients that if anything are going to end up hurting them. Many commercial dog foods result in making dogs overweight and this is then a whole other problem that has to be dealt with.

In the discussion of natural vs commercial dog food, one of the best ways to decide which you want to feed to your dog is by taking a look at the top few products in each category. For natural dog foods for instance, there is the holistic original dog food by Riplees Ranch.

This dog food includes ingredients such as chicken meal, brown rice, steamed oatmeal, chicken fat, rice bran, whole ground flax seed, beet pulp, salmon oil, natural chicken flavors, chicory root, dried whole egg, yucca schidigera, glucosomine HCI, marigold extract, carrots, spinach and tomatoes.

In the discussion of natural vs commercial dog food one of the most popular commercial dog foods is Purina dog food. Purina pet food is premium quality for healthy, happy pets, and the Purina Company is always sure to use their knowledge and expertise to consumers’ benefits. Purina truly advances the science of canine health care and nutrition and has provided millions of dogs around the world with unsurpassed nutrition and excellent pet care products.

Besides taking the debate of natural vs commercial dog food into consideration, there are other things you should think about as well when it comes to your dog’s nutrition. Making sure they get plenty of exercise for instance, is also going to make a difference in terms of their overall health and happiness.

After the massive pet food recall of 2007, many pet owners are wondering whether it’s safe to go back to the recalled brands their pets know and love. All three lines of Nutro dog food were affected by the recall. The containments have been identified and eliminated from entering the pet food chain, until maybe the next recall. But considering how long Nutro dog food has been around, they have had far more satisfied customers than unsatisfied ones.

About The Company

Nutro dog food and cat food started in the mind of a British entrepreneur who started his own line of pet foods in the 1920’s. The inevitable then happened – he was bought out by an American in 1926. John Saleen named the company Nutro and headquartered it in California. While selling the pet food available, the Saleen family put the profits into research and development.

One of the first companies to get on the “best nutrition” bandwagon in the mid-1980’s, Nutro dog food emphasized proper food ingredients like chicken and rice rather than the hodgepodge of slaughterhouse scraps and preservatives dog food mainly consisted of. In fact, there was even a dog condition known by vets as “dog food disease” where dogs that lived on only cheap dog food became horribly malnourished.

Would I Feed It To My Dog?

This writer has fed dry Nutro dog food and biscuits to her own dog, who means more to me than life itself. I want her to eat much better than I do because I want her to live as long and pain-free as possible. Nutro dog food also comes in cans, but I haven’t tried them yet. The reaction from my dog was “good, but not back flip-worthy good”. She never got sick.

You do have to pay more than average for Nutro dog food. However, they often give out coupons for free bags and other deep discounts. They usually have free samples and sales representatives in big chain pet stores to talk to you about pet nutrition, if you so desire.

Although my dog was not overly excited by Nutro dog food, I have no hesitation about feeding it to her again, even if she won’t do a back flip for it like she will attempt for other kinds of food (like Nutro’s pouch food for cats, which she is forbidden). Just like junk food, it tends to satisfy cravings that have nothing to do with proper nutrition. Feeding Alpo is like feeding McDonald’s – while Nutro dog food is like feeding a well balanced diet.

Earlier this year, many pet owners got quite a scare when they discovered that many pets had become ill and some had even died from eating tainted pet food. This scare multiplied exponentially as the list of pet foods affected grew longer and longer. The source of the contamination was traced by the FDA to a wheat protein that had been exported from China, and had been used in many of the pet foods that are distributed in the United States as well as worldwide. Many brands were affected by the recall, and one of those brands was part of Nutro pet food company.

History of Nutro Pet Food

Nutro has been making nutritious, quality pet food for more than 80 years. The company began in 1926 by a man named John Saleen, who bought a dog food company from a British businessman. For nearly 50 years, John Saleen and his family ran the Nutro pet food company on a primarily regional level. In 1976, Nutro was purchased and brought into the larger pet food industry with a healthy chicken, lamb and rice formula that appeals to retailers, breeders and many satisfied pet food owners. Nutro pet food is made of only the highest quality ingredients, so pet owners can rest assured that pets are getting all of the nutrition that they need in every bowl of their food.

The Nutro Pet Food Recall

At the beginning of the pet food recall, it appeared that none of the Nutro pet foods would be affected in the scare. The dry Nutro pet foods are not made with the wheat gluten that was a source of concern, and therefore should not be affected in any way. However, the company that has contracted to produce the wet Nutro pet foods has recalled a number of their wet foods because they were made with questionable wheat gluten. To help protect pets and give pet owners a much needed peace of mind, Nutro voluntarily recalled all of its wet food that could potentially cause a problem. The recall has in no way affected the dry Nutro pet foods, so pet owners can rest assured that these products are still as safe as ever.

If you have further questions or concerns about the pet food recall, and more specifically about Nutro pet food that was involved, you can go to the Nutro website or click on www.fda.gov for more information. The good news is that it appears that all of the pet food that was affected by this recall has now been taken off of store shelves, including Nutro pet food.

The saying, ?You are what you eat? applies to animals as well as humans. Pets deserve the healthiest diet possible?

There has been a decidedly worrying piece of news emerging of late that Pedigree pet food has been recalled in many countries of Asia because of reported instances of pet dogs being stricken with renal failure. It seems that some of the raw materials used in this food were found to be of inferior quality when made in Thailand and that there was presence of mold in the raw materials used. Even then, there has been no concrete evidence to point to a link between such mold and the renal problems in affected dogs. Thus, even a highly established brand such as Pedigree pet food is not free from being contaminated.

Exercise Caution

So, you as a pet owner must exercise caution why buying Pedigree pet food and you would be wise to listen as well as study and perhaps learn about what is the best pet food for your pet and then make an informed decision. Especially, when choosing Pedigree pet food online you need to consider a few things first up. You must establish that the firm selling Pedigree pet food is one with a good reputation and also you need to be sure that they will send you the food on time as well as in good condition.

And, you should also be certain that you are not paying more than is the right price for such food. In case the website also points to a store that you can walk into and check the products so much the better. In any case, you must be sure that such an outlet is worthy of your trust before purchasing Pedigree pet food from them.

So, once you are sure of where to buy Pedigree pet food that is uncontaminated and which will suit your pet, you can then choose which type of food to give to your pet. There is certainly a lot of variety and you have the choice of picking beef, chicken and rice, lamb cuts with vegetable, bacon and cheese and many more combinations.

You can also judge whether you are getting genuine Pedigree pet food by the price tag, since how much the pet food costs can indicate as to its quality. And, this you can see when you find that Pedigree pet food contains ground corn, corn gluten meal as well as chicken by-product meal.

So, even though there may have been pet food recall for this brand in far off Asia, it is still a worthy branded food that you can give to your pet and see him feeling satisfied and happy.

I know you’ve seen the headlines about the recent pet food recall. It certainly makes me sad to read about the pets that have become infected by pet food contamination. What’s even sadder though, are the marketers who will use this recent unfortunate event to make themselves some easy bucks.

What To Watch For Pet Food Contaminated Food

It is important to be able to read labels. They should be clear and readable. The basic four elements should contain on your label:

Brand name not misleading to the consumer

Guaranteed chemical analysis

Ingredients listed in descending order (from most to least)

The latest pet deaths due to mass-produced and marketed pet food are tragic. A lot of information has been kept away from the public?s eye. However, now is the time to take control of what your dog eats. Increase your knowledge and provide nutrition to your dog?s food that is not pet food contaminated that will improve your dog?s quality of life.

It’s a tragedy for all pet lovers around the world when such news breaks. If this issue has affected your pet then know that every pet lover around the world is supporting you at this time. This tragedy has made many aware that the commercial pet food, which we have been led to believe are good for our pets, may actually be causing serious problems. Many have been surprised to discover that “premium” pet foods have been using the same ingredients as “average” pet foods. One of the benefits of feeding homemade dog food and homemade cat food is that you get to control the quality of the ingredients fed to pet.

It is important to get to know the symptoms and signs of food contamination so you will know if your dog is a victim pet food contamination.

Common contamination symptoms include:

Your dog losses appetite

Your dog suffers from depression

Your dog has excessive thirst

Your dog has excessive urinating

In serious cases you dog may simply collapse

Just like humans, dogs live longer and happier when their health is well taken care of. If you are going to give any commercial food to your dog at least learn to read the label so you do not give your dog something that might make him or her sick.

There are many popular brands of commercial pet food on the market today. It is a good idea to check the recall list before you purchase any pet contaminated foods that might be on the list. Your dog?s health is your responsibility because you feed him or her.

In recent months, over 100 million units of pet food have been recalled by manufacturers concerned about the possible contamination of their products by an industrial chemical called melamine. This chemical is believed to be responsible for the illness and death of hundreds of pets that consumed pet food products that were tainted. Originally, the recalled pet food list only included items manufactured by Menu Food, one of the world?s leading pet food manufacturers. Over time, the recalled pet food list has grown to include over 100 different pet food brands and recalled items include dog food, cat food, and various pet treats.

All Pet Owners Should Review The Recalled Pet Food List

It is very important that all pet owners obtain a recalled pet food list and review the products that are on it. Many of the recalled brands are popular pet food brands and chances are that a large number of pet owners have purchased these products before the recall was issued. When manufacturers discovered the issue with the contaminated pet food, they acted quickly to issue a recall and remove any products that could possibly be contaminated from the retail market. Many retailing giants, such as Wal-Mart and Kroger, offered pet owners a refund if they returned the tainted products to the store they were purchased from. The recalled pet food list contains numerous popular items and all items included on the list should be promptly discarded or returned to the place of purchase for a refund.

How To Obtain A Recalled Pet Food List

The recalled pet food list has been complied by the US Food and Drug Administration with the assistance of many pet food manufacturers. The updated list can be found on the website of the US Food and Drug Administration and individuals that do not have access to a computer can call a telephone number to request having the list sent to you. The recalled pet food list is also available on the websites of many pet food manufacturers and pet associations such as the ASPCA. As the recalled pet food list has been updated on numerous occasions to ensure that new information is included, it is important for pet owners to ensure that they have the most up to date information.

The recalled pet food list contains many popular products from the world?s leading pet food manufacturers. These items should be removed from the home immediately to ensure that no harm will come to your pets. The chemical found in all of the products contained on the list will severely sicken your animals, causing death or high emergency medical bills to save the life of your pet. Although the investigation is still ongoing, when it comes to the health of your pets, it is better to be safe than sorry.

If you have a dog, then you were most likely concerned y the recent pet food scares. But do you know how to spot pet food poisoning in your dog should you be unfortunate enough to feed them contaminated food? According to veterinary experts, pet food poisoning can range from mild, to severe, and any symptoms you believe may be caused by contaminated food should be reported to your dogs doctor immediately.

Signs Of Pet Food Poisoning

There are a number of signs of pet food poisoning that all pet owners should be made aware of. If you believe that your dog has one or more of these symptoms, call your vet immediately. Doing so could save your dog?s life.

Change In Your Pet?s Behavior. One of the first and most common signs of pet food poisoning, is an extreme difference in your pet?s normal behavior. Does Fido suddenly have no interest in his favorite toy? Is Fifi suddenly avoiding her bowl, when she used to beg to be fed? It may be a sign of pet food poisoning.

Change In Your Pet?s Sleeping Patterns. Is your once overactive, energetic pup suddenly sleeping all day and night, with no desire to go out and play? Extreme fatigue can be a sign of more severe pet food poisoning in your dog.

Digestive Problems. Just like humans, if your pet contracts food poisoning, he or she will usually exhibit symptoms of digestive distress such as vomiting, excessive diarrhea, and frequent urination. Call your vet immediately if your pet exhibits one of these more severe symptoms.

Apparent Disorientation. If your dog appears disoriented or unsteady, it may be a sign of pet food poisoning. Often when dogs contract food poisoning, they may walk almost as if they?re drunk, and may experience tremors as well.

What To Do If Your Dog Has Pet Food Poisoning

The most important thing to remember if you suspect your dog has pet food poisoning, is to never induce vomiting unless instructed by your veterinarian. Call your veterinarian immediately; or, better yet, rush your beloved pet to the vet or to a local veterinary emergency room, if you believe your dog has become a victim of pet food poisoning.

Knowing all of the possible signs of pet food poisoning can help to protect your dog should the worse happen, and allow you to spend many more years with your best friend.

There are a number of websites on internet that post comprehensive information about pet food recall warnings. These websites always have a detailed pet food recall list.

What Information is Available from the FDA?

In March 2007, the FDA created the first internet site to post list of recalled pet food products. With regards to the product recall, the website not only covers information about cat and dog food products, but ferret pet food products as well. The FDA pet food recall list is still maintained and regularly updated. The website is extremely comprehensive and provides links to pertinent news articles as well. In keeping consumers informed, the FDA has held press conferences detailing the actions they?ve taken or plan to take regarding the recall of pet food products. The information from these press conferences is available as well, and posted as PDFs on the pet food recall list. As part of their ongoing communication, the FDA?s pet food recall list website also posts recall notices that have been issued from the pet food manufacturers that have voluntarily added themselves to the list. The FDA website enables you to search by various keywords such as the type of container (i.e. cans or pouches), the product description, the UPC Code. It is also possible to search with a combination of data such as description, size, brand name and container.

Are There Any Other Internet Sites that Post a Pet Food Recall List?

Independent from the FDA, the ASPCA, has posted its own pet food recall list on their website. It differs from the FDA list in the way the information has been organized. In addition, it has a disclaimer regarding the reliability and accuracy of their information.

AMVA (American Veterinary Medical Association), has posted its own pet food recall list on their website. This website is broken down into sections providing pet food recall information for aquatic pets, cats, dogs, and ferrets. Within these categories, each section provides the brand name, product, and formulation (pouch or can). There are links in the product section that enable you to go directly to the manufacturers website for the specific information on that particular product, i.e. manufacture dates, description, size, formulation, and UPC. The AVMA encourages all concerned pet owners to contact the specific manufacturer regarding the status of any particular pet food or treat.

Another pet food recall list posted on the internet is The Pet Food List, which is owned by PetsitUSA. The website provides information from pet food manufacturers and pet food distributors. It is not as comprehensive as other lists; however, its discussion board has some very interesting postings with regards to new product recalls, updated news, and a general recall discussion board.

Is There a Need for Pet Food Recall Lists?

The public has the right to know if the pet food they?ve purchased for their pets is tainted. The only comprehensive way for a pet owner to know for certain is to research this information. Other than occasional televised new reports by the media, a pet food recall list is the only way of knowing if a product is safe.

If you have been feeding your dog food that is less than nutritious and which does not positively impact its health you need to put your thinking cap on and get down to some serious rethinking. If your pet has been given contaminated food, the risk of it causing death of your pet is considerably higher than for a food that is clean as well as hygienic and of course, also nutritious. Of late, there have been many dog food recalls and it is a reason to worry because even the big and famous names in pet food have not been spared, and it was a direct result of noticing pet food recall symptoms in many pets.

What To Look For

There is thus naturally a great deal of concern amongst pet owners as to what are the pet food recall symptoms that they should look out for in their pets, especially those signs that are indicative of failed kidneys. If you fear that your dog or pet has kidney failure be sure to look for pet food recall symptoms such as reduced or little appetite, vomiting as well as general lack of energy. In case you see signs in your pet of something abnormal, it is better if you take your pet to the veterinary without any delay, since a failure of the kidney can lead to fatal consequences.

In any case, if you have made the error of feeding your pet with pet food that has been recalled, you must immediately get your pet off that food and give him something that he has not had any problems with. For sure, the major pet food recall symptoms include very low appetite, excessive passing of urine, feeling very thirsty and having low levels of energy, which if one or all of these symptoms should begin to show up in your pet?s behavior, will mean that something is very wrong with his dietary intake, and you should then try and give your pet food that does not contain wheat gluten as well as/or rice protein concentrate till such time as the pet?s condition has been properly diagnosed.

You can also be sure that your pet?s pet food recall symptoms will include renal failure, which is the most likely illness that has a direct connection with recalled food consumption. Your pet may become depressed, lethargic as well as vomits and has diarrhea as well as has significant change in his consumption of water as well as in his urine frequency. Of course, these pet food recall symptoms may also be present for other illnesses, so make sure to consult a veterinarian to get to the bottom of the matter.

At the faintest whiff of suspicion that your pet is showing pet food recall symptoms, you should take him to the veterinarian and also make sure to provide the vet with samples of the recalled food, provide documentary evidence regarding the name of the product, type as well as manufacturing info and also give the packaging. It is then up to the veterinarian to get to the bottom of the problem and diagnose the exact problem that your pet is suffering from.

A wholesome and balanced natural blend of high-quality ingredients, from start to finish provides pets with the nutrition they need and deserve. Real meat, garden vegetables and multi-grains create delicious meals they will love. Cooking pet food recipes for a pet is possibly the most healthy way to feed it.

Cooking from pet food recipes organically may save you money.

As the good news about organic diets has spread, dog owners are beginning to wonder if dietary changes can help their dogs. Do the benefits of an organic diet really extend to pets?? We all want healthy, happy dogs, but is the higher price of organic dog food really worth it?? Consider the potential benefits of organic pet food recipes:

Home Cooked Pet Food Recipes

Many pet owners are responding to recent problems of pet food contamination by preparing their own pet food right at home.As a pet ages from birth into adolescence and adulthood and finally becomes geriatric, its nutritional requirements change.

Homemade diets are important in the dog feeding. Many a times, the commercial diets consist of food items that have artificial coloring agents or flavoring agents that are harmful to the dog’s body. Food that is homemade has the guarantee of freshness in preparation, unlike the ready-made commercial items. Commercially produced dog fod tends to contain preservatives, which could be detrimental to the dog?s heath.. Even in case of renal diseases in dogs, the homemade diets may be made with ground beef, slices of bread, calcium carbonate, boiled eggs etc. via pet food recipes.

Often, homemade food items are prepared using the freezing procedures to kill bacteria or by adding grape seed extracts to provide sufficient antioxidants. Food grade vinegar is also added to the meat pieces to keep it fresh. All these can be enriched with vitamin supplements that are available in fruit essences, fish oil, etc.

Cranberry juice, bananas, fish and meat are prepared in a quality manner and no preservatives are added during the preparation of these kinds of food items and the dog becomes more active after the consumption of such food items.

Home-cooked Diets:

Dogs can be successfully maintained on properly formulated home-cooked diets; however, this is much more difficult in cats. Advantages of home-cooked diets include the use of fresh, high-quality ingredients chosen by the owner. Disadvantages include preparation time, variable quality control and diet consistency, higher cost, and the difficulty in formulating and preparing a nutritionally complete and balanced diet.

There have been many recalls issued lately for contaminated pet food released to market by unsuspecting manufacturers. In many cases, the recalls are due to contaminated ingredients imported from China being added to the pet food by American manufacturers. This most recent pet food scare has cost these pet food manufacturers millions of dollars in lost revenue and have severely damaged the reputations of these companies.

What Caused The Pet Food Scare?

The pet food scare is due to the contamination of certain pet food ingredients by an industrial chemical called melamine. This chemical is typically used in the manufacture of plastics and is used as a fertilizer in certain Asian countries. According to the US Food and Drug Administration, the presence of melamine is not allowed in food intended for humans or pets. The common belief is that the consumption of this chemical by household pets can cause severe kidney damage and in some cases, has caused kidney failure. In the recent pet food scare, dozens of animals became ill or died after eating the contaminated pet food.

What Products Were Affected?

Both food for dogs and food for cats were compromised during this pet food scare. For dogs, the contaminated products included wet dog food, dry dog food, and some dog treats. The contaminated products for cats were limited to wet and dry cat food. The ingredients responsible for the contamination are believed to be wheat gluten and rice protein concentrate imported from China. The wheat gluten is believed to be responsible for the recall that affected products manufactured by Menu Foods and the rice protein concentrate is believed to be responsible for the recall of pet foods manufactured by Natural Balance. This recent pet food scare resulted in the recall of over 100 million units of pet food.

What Is Being Done To Correct The Problem?

The pet food scare is believed to have originated with the tainted products from China, but further testing is being conducted to be certain. The pet food manufacturers acted quickly to test their products and issue a recall if deemed necessary. The manufacturers that received products from the Chinese manufacturing plant that the tainted ingredients originated from have cancelled their incoming shipments until further notice. The US Food and Drug Administration is researching and gathering all the information that they can to prevent another pet food scare. Everyone in the pet food industry is working to ensure that the foods that we give to our pets is free of contamination and will not be responsible for making them ill.

Raw dog food does not mean “straight from the can or bag.” It’s a little more complicated than that. Dog food in cans, bags and pouches have been processed in factories. The meat started from animals that went to the abattoir, then the meat goes to the processing plant’s machines, gets mixed with a whole bunch of other stuff and then goes into the bag or can for your store’s shelves.

Raw dog food is raw food, whether meat or vegetables as well as butchers’ bones, given to the dog in complete substitution for commercially prepared dog food. This way of feeding is usually known as the BARF diet (Bones And Raw Foods) and its proponents say it is a more natural diet for a dog.

Would I Give It To My Dog?

This writer strongly does not recommend the BARF diet for any pet dog. It is better than not getting fed at all, but commercially prepared foods do have the balanced nutrition that raw dog food often lacks. Dogs are seen as basically carnivores on the raw dog food diet. They are not. They are omnivores ? just like us. Dogs can not only survive but thrive on a vegetarian diet, unlike cats that quickly die on vegetarian diets.

Raw dog food takes an incredible amount of time to prepare and costs a fortune. You don’t need to actually slaughter a cow yourself, but you do have to feed your dog from the butcher’s selection. You then take it out of the package and give it to the dog ? although small dogs, older dogs or dogs with bad teeth need their raw dog food pureed or minced.

One of the arguments for raw dog food is that you don’t have to worry about any pet food recalls. However, human grade food is not without its problems. And raw meat is susceptible to parasites and illnesses like salmonella that can get your dog very sick. Raw bones tend to splinter, which can choke your dog. They also are subject to containments unless they are cooked before giving to the dog.

It’s Not Nice To Second-Guess Mother Nature

Is processed commercial dog food the diet ancient dogs from millennia ago ate? Obviously not. But times have changed ? and so has the nature and nutritional needs of the domestic dog. Dogs are now more dependent on human care than ever. A Pekingese would not last two minutes in the wild. Since we created the dogs, we have to feed them what they need, as opposed to what we think their ancestors needed.

The nutrittional needs of dogs change as they age. It is vital to choose a food that is appropriate for a dog?s age and health condition.. Companionship and commitment to dogs have always been important for their health, but these are even more important now. Even though a dog may be showing signs of age, they can still live a happy, active life when eating science diet pet food regularly. With regular veterinary attention, daily care and proper nutrition, an older dog can still experience a happy and healthy life.

Real meat as a source for high quality protein will help promote strong muscles and a healthy body Vegetables, like carrots and peas, act as a natural source of vitamins, minerals, and fiber to help maintain optimal health

As the good news about organic diets has spread, dog owners are beginning to wonder if dietary changes are really helpful to their pets. We all want healthy, happy dogs, but is the higher price of organic dog food really worth it?? Consider the potential benefits of organic pet food:

Why Choose Science Diet Pet food?

Advantages of science diet pet food include a lower cost than canned or soft-moist food, and refrigeration of unused portions is not needed. Dry dog food may also provide beneficial massage of the teeth and gums to help decrease periodontal disease.

While odor, consistency, taste, and learned dietary habits determine which foods a dog will eat, most are indiscriminate eaters. Dogs that are accustomed to begging have learned such behaviors by being allowed to indulge by their owners. Some dogs have adequate appetite control and maintain an optimal body condition, even with dietary changes. By contrast, some dogs over eat and consume excessive calories, and become obese. The thickness of the fat layer over the rib cage and pelvic bones is a good indicator of obesity, as is regular body condition scoring over time. Normally, the ribs and hip bones should be easily felt but not seen; these cannot be easily palpated in an obese animal.

Dietary modifications are required by changes in life stage, environment, body weight and condition, and disease. Therefore, general feeding recommendations cannot be given for all dogs on any particular food. Instead, feeding recommendations should be individualized. The best feeding method is one that maintains optimal body weight and condition, bearing in mind that disease conditions may require dietary changes.

When a dietary change from one type of dog food to another, including science diet pet food, is necessary, it should not be done abruptly. New foods need to be introduced gradually. Also, it is better to offer slightly less than the calculated new food amount.

Science diet pet food is a good nutritious dry food that has all the ingredients for a dog to live a happy life.

Due to recent pet food scares, many are looking for alternative pet food brands which offer a more natural way to feed their pets. Solid Gold Pet Food is just such an alternative. Founded in 1974, Solid Gold Pet Food has been manufacturing all natural pet food that takes a holistic approach to feeding our beloved animals.

Solid Gold Pet Food has developed a line of low allergen pet foods. Their claim is that these foods help to boost your pet?s immune system, and to protect against common diseases household pets are prone to contract. They offer both canned and dry pet foods, and make pet food for both dogs and cats.

Solid Gold Pet Food Ingredients

According to the Solid Gold Pet Food website, their pet foods only contain USDA choice meats and grains, and only unsaturated fats. They have currently developed a new line of dry dog food that is a healthier alternative for overweight dogs, containing a nutritional blend that is high in protein and low in carbohydrates. They also carry a line of food supplements for pet owners who feed their animals a homemade pet food diet.

According to Solid Gold Pet Food representatives, their pet food products do not contain any type of fillers such as corn or soy, which are known to cause certain allergic reactions in dogs. They also do not use any wheat products which have been genetically modified. These products have been shown to cause skin disorders, abnormal behavior, as well as certain chronic conditions in some animals. Solid Gold Pet Food also does not contain any animal by-products, as these have been shown to cause extreme health problems in certain animals.

Solid Gold Pet Food also does not contain any chemical preservatives. The makers of Solid Gold Pet Food have developed a new method of packaging, called foil barrier packaging, which allows the food to be packed, shipped, and stored without using any type of chemical preservatives. This type of packaging also helps to maintain flavor quality, keep food fresh, and help to prevent loss of nutritional value.

The Solid Gold Pet Food tradition has always been to help pets remain healthy through natural, holistically prepared food products and combinations. Their pet food products are said to promote total body health in your beloved pets. Whether or not there is any substance to their claims of disease protection and immune system boosting, the fact remains that Solid Gold Pet Food is a safe and healthy alternative for you best friend.

The fear of tainted pet foods has been highlighted in the news in recent months due to the large amount of tainted pet food that were shipped from China recently. However, tainted pet food has not been limited to just this occurrence. In fact, there have been several occurrences of tainted pet foods being released throughout the years.

The 2007 Tainted Pet Food Scare

Early on this year there was a huge pet food scare. What started off as an assumption that a few types of pet food had been poisoned, turned into a realization that literally dozens of pet food brands were contaminated by a toxic chemical apparently accidentally included in many name brand and store brand pet food.

Cats in particular seemed sensitive to this toxin. It caused many cats to have kidney failure and die. Although officially there were only 23 deaths initially attributed to this issue, there were likely hundreds of animals that died from it. Of the 23 deaths initially attributed to this situation, 22 of the animals that died were cats.

Why it is Difficult to Tell Your Pet is Sick

Many people have wondered why so many pets died from this situation and why pet owners did not get their pets to the veterinarian faster. There are a couple of reasons for this. First of all, many pets affected by this became ill and passed away very quickly. Secondly, tainted pet food, like many pet illnesses, can be made difficult for pet owners to diagnose by the pets themselves. This is because pets cannot tell their owners when they are sick and sometimes the signs they are sick are very subtle.

There are a few things pet owners can look for to ascertain if their pet is sick. The pet may seem depressed or less social than usual. Or, rather than being withdrawn the pet may seem to want more attention than normal. They may be essentially all over you when they would normally not be so social. They may whine or cry more than usual.

There may be more obvious signs as well. They may refuse to eat or drink water. A pet that is sick may not urinate or defecate as frequently or may discontinue these activities entirely. They may also vomit or cough. A pet that is ill may start doing things that they normally would not that are inappropriate as well. For example, they may start urinating or defecating on the floor instead of in their litter box or outside.

Wellness brand dog food offers high quality natural food designed to keep your dog healthy. Wellness is one of the brands of pet food produced by Old Mother Hubbard. Wellness offers a wide variety of dog food and the types you choose should be based on factors such as the age and the dietary requirements of your dog. The Wellness dog food varieties do not contain meat by-products, artificial flavors or unnatural preservatives. Their products contain high quality healthy fat substances such as salmon oil and canola oil.

Quality Ingredients

Fresh vegetables such as carrots, broccoli, spinach and other varieties are used in their pet foods as well as fresh fruits such as apples and blueberries. Wellness claims their dog food is favorably comparable to human food regarding nutritional value as well as the food preparation and the cooking procedures which are utilized.

They use healthy grains and add important vitamins and minerals to help ensure the health of your dog. The Wellness Super5Mix foods as well as their pet treats are cooked by a slow minimum pressurized steamer which prevents the nutrients form being eliminated during the cooking process. You won’t find any rendered animal fats, wheat, white rice or corn in their line of dog foods.

Wellness Super5Mix Chicken

If you take a look at the ingredients listed on the label for the Wellness Super5Mix Chicken you will be pleased to see that the first two ingredients are deboned chicken and chicken meal and not meat by-products. Chicken meal typically has the same nutritional value as whole chicken meat. The next three ingredients are oatmeal, ground barley and brown rice which are all healthy nutritious grains. They have added a healthy amount of canola oil and a variety of fresh vegetables and fruits which contain the important antioxidants that will help keep your dog healthy and keep his skin in good shape.

According to surveys more than 50 per cent of dog owners believe their dog has some type of allergy or has an adverse reaction to some types of food items. Some experts believe that most allergies affecting dogs are caused by unnatural food sources found in their diet such as preservatives, chemicals and artificial flavorings. Wellness dog food products do not contain any of these unhealthy substances.

Special Products

Wellness also has produced their Simple Food Solutions line of dog food which is specifically designed for dogs that are susceptible to allergies. Wellness dog food also comes in varieties specifically designed for senior dogs, puppies, and dogs that have become obese. Wellness dog food is made from high quality food items and comes in dry form as well as canned food.

By the time the Wellness pet food was introduced in the industry, health food for humans was already a popular commodity. Scientists and doctors were beginning to discover that your health had as much to do with putting the good stuff into your body as keeping the unhealthy substances out. In the 1990?s, the CEO of the Old Mother Hubbard pet food company, Jim Scott Jr., began working with a team of veterinarians, scientists and animal nutrition experts to develop an all natural pet food that was designed with your pet?s holistic health in mind. This process was the brainchild of Wellness pet food, which is a brand of the Old Mother Hubbard pet food line.

Where to Find Wellness Pet Food

Because of its unique nature, Wellness pet food is not found in all pet shops and grocery and discount stores with other pet food brands. Instead, you will find Wellness pet food and other Wellness products through health food retailers and specialty pet stores throughout North America. These foods contain only natural ingredients, with no animal by-products, fats, fillers, preservative or artificial colors or flavors. It is dog and cat food the way nature intended. Perhaps this is the wave of the future when it comes to pet food, but folks will just have to wait and see the success of Wellness pet food products to be sure.

Wellness Pet Food and the Recall

Most pet owners are familiar with the pet food recall that began in the spring of this year, and has continued into the summer months. This recall revolved around two ingredients that are found in many pet foods; wheat gluten and rice protein. It appears that these substances that were exported from China to be used in a number of pet food products were tainted with melamine. Pet food manufacturers immediately began pulling products from store shelves as the FDA tested more and more brands of pet food, and pet owners began making their own food out of intense concern over the safety of commercial products. It is important to note that none of the Old Mother Hubbard or Wellness pet foods were a part of this recall, since few use these ingredients and all were tested thoroughly at the start of the recall scare.

If you want to give your pet the best all natural food on the market today, try Wellness pet food. You can rest assured that your pet is getting all of the necessary nutrition without any of the unnecessary by-products.

The massive recall of pet foods in 2007 has left pet owners wondering if it’s safe to go back to their respective brands. All three lines of <a href="http://www.bestdogsupplies.info/dog-food/no-need-to-be-afraid-of-nutro-dog-food-36"target="_blank">Nutro dog food were affected by the recall.

One of the first companies to get on the “best nutrition” bandwagon in the mid-1980’s, <a href="http://www.bestdogsupplies.info"target="_blank">Nutro dog food emphasized proper food ingredients like chicken and rice rather than the hodgepodge of slaughterhouse scraps and preservatives dog food mainly consisted of.

Feeding Alpo is like feeding McDonald’s – while <a href="http://www.bestdogsupplies.info"target="_blank">Nutro dog food is like feeding a well balanced diet.
