Do you need a reliable and safe pet cure for dysplasia or other conditions that cause joint pain? Have you considered using natural pain relievers? Today, there are a number of pet pain relief products that cause fewer side effects than conventional medications. At the same time, you will notice a dramatic improvement in your pet’s activity levels. Among other things you may want to try Joint Rescue, Old Bones, or Flex Pet.

Let look at this scenario. You have a middle aged dog or cat. They normally get calmer as the years go by. While a calmer pet is normally a welcome change, he/she may also be suffering from Arthritis or Dysplasia. Amazingly, cats will develop these conditions as much or more often than dogs. If you start to see changes in your pet;s energy levels, it might be time to investigate pain management solutions for your pet.

Most times pet owners don’t notice that their pet is suffering till the vet tells them that it’s time to make a call about euthanasia. Though the best pet cure will not unjustified years of damage to frail hip, shoulder, and wrist joints, they can reduce pain and inflammation. At the least, if you are hesitant about saying that final ciao to your cat or dog, you can give natural pain cures a short trial. If they help, then you can expect a little bit more quality time with your fave pet.

Yearly, millions of pet owners are challenged with the incontrovertible fact that aging pets suffer from all different types of pain. Luckily, there are some natural pet care products that may be used to treat both mild and complicated joint pain. Any one of these products can enable your pet to live a long, satisfied life without the common complications associated with typical pain killers.

by Melissa Coleman

Giving a pet a second chance at a good life is always a wonderful thing to do and when you take in a Shar Pei rescue dog you are doing a wonderful and humane thing.

But in the meantime you will need patience and you will need to make sure that you keep an eye out for potentially bad traits and be ready to deal with some of the issues that come along with taking in an abused pet.

Let your new Shar Pei rescue dog check out its new home and just take in all of the new sights and scents. Very quickly the dog will begin to realize that it is in a new situation and that could be good or that could be bad but at least it will have some time to get a feel for where it is and know it is not in the abusive situation anymore.

A Shar Pei rescue dog is a very intelligent animal and they are going to need time to adjust to a new situation so for a little while it would be a good idea to reduce the amount of loud noises and clatter that goes on in your house as a lot of activity and noise will start to confuse the dog and not give it a chance to settle itself down and into your home. A Shar Pei does not do well with commotion so in order to help it get used to your home you need to slowly work things in.

In the course of training your new Shar Pei rescue dog it will make mistakes even as intelligent as it is. When your dog makes mistakes do not punish it because that will only make things worse. Punishment will confuse the dog and could spark more aggressive behavior so use only positive reinforcement in your training and remember that the Shar Pei takes to training very well and can get bored quickly so keep it interesting.

The Shar Pei was originally bred as an extremely intelligent fighting dog so they do have an aggressive nature about them. However a Shar Pei will also develop a strong attachment to their family after a while and that makes them a wonderful family pet.

But because of what your Shar Pei rescue dog has been through it may display those primal signs of aggression when you first get it. Do not panic and just use a lot of love and patience. The Shar Pei is smart and will eventually catch on that everything is okay but in the meantime just be patient.

Anything you try to teach a Shar Pei rescue dog will eventually sink in and the dog responds very well to training. But you need to exercise patience and have a little respect for what the dog has been through before you can really make your new dog the loyal family pet it wants to be.

Rottweiler rescue organizations say there are two reasons people give up their Rottweiler dogs, either there are problems with the people, or problems with the dog. Rottweiler owners should take responsibility for the people problems and fulfill their commitment to the dog. Some owners got their Rottweilers as companions during lonely times. These owners perhaps got bored with their Rottweilers when romance came along, or after marriage when it was time to think about starting a family. Getting a Rottweiler is definitely a lifelong commitment, and owners who want to give their Rottweilers up for selfish reasons should reconsider and follow through with their commitment.

Whatever the reason, every year hundreds of Rottweilers find new homes through the assistance of Rottweiler rescue organizations. Rottweiler rescue groups get to know every single dog they place and match each new home carefully with a dog. The groups match abandoned dogs with new homes where they are loved and thrive.

Don’t be afraid to take a leadership role with a Rottweiler that you get from a rescue organization. The Rottweiler is a confident breed whose friendship must be earned, and your dog will be relieved to let you take a role of leadership and establish a hierarchy between the two of you.

Adult Rottweilers are large, weighing up to one hundred thirty-five pounds. It is important that owners are able to control these powerful dogs, and they should receive obedience training at an early age, preferably starting at eight to ten weeks of age. If an adult dog has never been trained, or if the dog has obedience problems, the rescue dog owner should take obedience courses with the dog to help establish the owner’s leadership role.

Rottweilers crave leadership, and your rescue dog will be relieved when you assume the responsibility for leadership in your relationship. In addition to discipline and training, adequate exercise is essential for a Rottweiler to keep the dog’s energy in balance. A well-exercised dog is easier to control and discipline than a dog filled with pent-up energy.

Rottweiler rescue groups will only accept Rottweiler dogs that are in good health, with current vaccinations. Each dog that is accepted as a rescue dog undergoes a health and temperament evaluation by a veterinarian, and the owner who turns the dog over is required to pay a nominal fee to cover intake expenses. The fee is also meant to discourage owners from dumping dogs on the rescue groups, and encourages owners to think long and hard before surrendering their dog.

If you think that adopting a Rottweiler rescue dog might be right for you, contact your local Rottweiler rescue group to find out if they have a Rottweiler who might be right for you. You must be an adult to adopt a Rottweiler, and you must have the consent of all adults in your household before you will be considered as an adoptive owner of a Rottweiler rescue dog. If you rent your home, your landlord must provide written approval for you to adopt a dog. These restrictions may seem strict to you at first, but remember they are in place to protect the dog from being bounced from home to home.

The Rottweiler rescue group will match you with a dog and place the dog temporarily with you in foster care for a trial period to see how you and the dog get along. You will be required to pay a nominal fee, commensurate with the age and health of the dog you adopt. Charging adoption fees helps to defray the rescue organization’s expenses and helps to reinforce the commitment involved in adopting a dog. The process eliminates would-be adopters who are not willing to make the personal sacrifices needed to help the adoption succeed.

Boston Terrier breeders will tell you that the Boston Terrier, which is the state dog of Massachusetts, is really not a Terrier at all. Called the Boston Bull and the Boston Bull Terrier, the Boston Terrier descended from two now extinct breeds, the Old English Bulldog and the English White Terrier. A man by the name of Robert C. Hopper bred the first Boston Terrier (then referred to as a Bull Terrier which Bull Terrier breeders were quite unhappy with). He bred subsequent litters with various Bulldog mixes such as the French Bulldog to make this breed a small-sized, non-aggressive companion dog. Though the Bulldog was bred to fight bulls and other dogs, this trait has been bred out of the Boston Terrier. Boston Terrier breeders describe Boston Terriers as gentle, alert intelligent, and affectionate. The breed is the first American-bred dog to be included in the American Kennel Club. The breed was recognized in 1893.
The Boston Terrier is also referred to as the American Gentleman due to the tuxedo-like markings on its coat. Boston Terriers may be black with white, brindle with white, brown with white or a red-black color called seal with white. Their coats are uniformly white on the muzzle, between the eyes, on a band around the neck, on the chest and halfway up the forelegs. This color pattern make the Boston Terrier appear to be wearing a white collar, shirt, and cuffs with a black suit jacket and coat tails. Besides being sturdy and dapper in appearance, the Boston Terrier is very intelligent and amusing. Boston Terrier breeders provide a solid foundation of discipline and training for dog buyers to build upon. Some owners say that their Boston Terriers can do thirty or more tricks, some as intricate as riding a skateboard!

Boston Terriers suffer from common genetic problems such as cataracts, a condition called cherry eye, deafness, allergies, curvature of the spine, respiratory issues and digestive problems. Because of the breed’s short muzzle, dogs may reverse sneeze and snore loudly. Like their bulldog ancestors, Boston Terriers can also be very gassy, a surprising quality in an American Gentleman.
Good Boston Terrier breeders can be found in Boston (of course!), as well as many other cities and countries. Good places to start when researching where to buy a Boston Terrier include the Boston Terrier Club of America, the American Kennel Club, and local Boston Terrier rescue centers. There are many websites that promise next-day pets and overnight shipping of puppies, but these should be avoided. A purebred Boston Terrier should not be shipped. If possible, it should be bred and bought locally. Pet store puppies should also be avoided because these puppies have also been shipped and buyers receive no guarantee on their health or pedigree.

Boston Terrier buyers have a responsibility to thoroughly research Boston Terrier breeders. There are many illicit breeders working to make money with little regard to animal health, quality or care. Buyers should ask for references from respected breeders in their town or state. Local shelters may also be able to direct buyers to good Boston Terrier breeders.

Buyers should thoroughly interview Boston Terrier breeders. Boston Terrier information about breeders is provided in this article.

There are many beloved dog breeds in existence today. One of the most talked about is the Poodle. Whether standard, miniature or toy in size, the Poodle is regularly a champion in competition and is viewed as a superb example of a purebred dog. Poodle breeders fawn over their Poodles. Other dog breeders may mock Poodles for the elaborate show clips they present in competition. Because of their long-legged, delicate appearance and regal carriage Poodles are natural showstoppers.

The history of the Poodle is much less intricate than one would think. Poodles have their origins in the 15th century. They are thought to have come from Russia and Germany. Germans called the Poodle Pudelhund, or splashing dog. The closely curled, dense coat of the Poodle served the purpose of insulating the dog from cold water. Poodles were used as retrievers and duck hunters. Their cliché’ trim actually served a functional purpose of keeping them warm around their joints while mobile in other areas when immersed in water.
Good Poodle breeders are aware of the history of the Poodle breed as well as the breed standard characteristics. They should be able to educate a potential buyer on the Poodle to ensure that the buyer and Poodle are a good match. The Poodle’s fur is its most noticeable trait. It is dense, coarse and curly to wiry. Poodles have other defining traits such as delicate limbs and muzzles, graceful oval feet, dark eyes, an alert, intelligent and active temperament, and a regal carriage. Poodles can also have health problems specific to the breed such as a condition called Addison’s disease, gastric problems, kidney and thyroid problems, and cancer. Breeders will not continue to breed any Poodle found to have a hereditary medical condition.

Breeders may specialize in toy, miniature or standard Poodles. The difference in the types of Poodle is their size and weight. Toy Poodles are six to nine pounds and up to ten inches in height at the shoulder. Miniature Poodles are fifteen to seventeen pounds and eleven to fifteen inches in height at the shoulder. Standard Poodles are forty-five to seventy pounds and over fifteen inches in height at the shoulder.
Poodles are probably one of the more expensive breeds, and a Poodle puppy bought from a champion line may cost as much as two thousand dollars. When searching for Poodle breeders, it is important for buyers to shop around and ask a lot of questions. Buyers should first educate themselves about Poodle history, health and behavior to make sure this is the breed desired. Next, they should ask local shelters or rescue centers for referrals to good Poodle breeders. The American Kennel Club’s website is another excellent source of information on various, certified breeders.

Two things that are always red flags warning buyers of bad breeders are breeders who sell to pet stores and breeders who don’t interview buyers to ensure Poodles will be going to a good home. No good Poodle breeder is in the business just for money. Good Poodle breeders love animals and want their Poodle pups to go to loving, permanent homes.

Poodle breeders can breed poodles for profit or for love of the breed. Tips on how to find Poodle breeders and basic Poodle information is provided in this article.

The Siberian Husky is a purebred dog recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) as a breed in 1930. The Siberian Husky is a descendent of the “Eskimo dog,” or sled dog, and is also a member of the larger Spitz group of dogs which derived from the Arctic. It’s Spitz relatives include the Chow Chow and Pomeranian. It’s Eskimo dog relatives include the Alaskan Malamute and the Samoyed. The Siberian Husky has traits of both groups including the high-set, triangular ears and curled, furry tail of the Spitz and the thick, double coat of insulating fur and overall wolf-like appearance of the Eskimo dog and other huskies.

Siberian Huskies were brought to Alaska in 1909 to participate in sledding competitions. Their endurance and intelligence helped the husky win many sled races. This dog breed is more commonly used in American Kennel Club competition than sledding races today, but the traits needed to pull sleds are still the characteristics needed to win.
Other characteristics required by the American Kennel Club include a height of twenty-one to twenty-three and one half inches for males and twenty to twenty-one inches tall for females, a weight of forty-five to sixty pounds for males) and thirty-five to fifty pounds for females, a scissors-bite (upper teeth closely overlapping lower teeth), a smooth gait, a friendly, alert and mischievous expression and an outgoing personality. The AKC does not disqualify the Siberian Husky for certain traits that would disqualify other breeds. These include bi-colored eyes, and “snow-nose” or a hyper-pigmentation of the nose in which part is black and part is flesh-colored. The reason the AKC does not disqualify the husky is that coloring is not seen as being important in pulling a sled.

Siberian Husky breeders try to retain both the attractive and utilitarian characteristics of the breed. Because of the breed’s natural tendency to be extremely active, huskies are not recommended for everyone. Breeders will tell you that there are high numbers of Siberian Huskies sitting in shelters and rescue centers because owners did not research the breed and could not handle their dogs once grown into adulthood. The most common, problematic behavioral traits of huskies are a tendency to run or escape, excessive howling, hyperactivity, inability to be left alone, stubbornness and shedding.
Siberian Husky breeders will not sell purebred huskies to just anyone. In fact, breeders may have more questions for potential buyers than buyers have for the breeders. Because of the high incidence of abandonment of this breed, breeders will want to ensure potential owners are a good match for a Siberian Husky.

To find reputable Siberian Husky breeders, it is important to make sure they live in a cool climate as huskies are made for cold weather and can suffer heatstroke in high temperatures. Other traits to look for in a good breeder include the following: the breeder maintains their own kennels, their huskies have received appropriate medical screening and immunizations, the breeder does not breed huskies with known medical conditions or behavioral problems, they do not sell to pet stores or pet brokers, the kennels are clean and meet huskies’ training and social needs, they are experts on the breed and affiliated with purebred rescue centers, they have good references such as the AKC (American Kennel Club), they interview buyers to ensure they are a good match and they are willing and able to provide Siberian Husky information.

Perhaps you think that all Siberian Huskies look alike. They most certainly do not. There is a wide variety within the breed. They come in many coat colors and eye colors. Their ears are usually pointed, but often are floppy. Their coats come in a variety of textures. Their spines (or “topline”) can be straight or curved down. Their tails can be straight, sickle-shaped or curly. However, not all of these Huskies would be allowed in a show ring.

In learning Siberian husky information, it is usually best to know the breed standard. This is an idealized blueprint that you match your dog to. In a show, the winner is the dog that comes closest to matching that breed standard. In real life, no Husky ever can. But getting close to the breed standard can help you identify an abandoned dog’s breed in your local shelter or animal rescue center.
It has only been in the last few decades that Huskies were bred for looks rather than for function. This shows in a great many purebred Siberian Huskies, which is one of the reasons why they can be abandoned. Some people not only want a purebred Siberian husky, they want one that looks like the fictional ideal of the Siberian Husky set out in the American Kennel Club. For the most part, Siberian Huskies are abandoned through no fault of their own.

The ideal Siberian Husky is about fifty pounds and twenty-two inches high at the shoulder. His or her coat is double layered and not too frizzy, silky or too long. He or she does not have dewclaws, knock-knees, an overbite or a muzzle that is either to pointed or too blunt. All of his or her body parts in proportion to give a look of a smoothly flowing, athletic little wolf.
The Siberian Husky often shares certain temperamental characteristics, which vary in degree from dog to dog. There is a breed personality listed as the official part of the breed standard that most breeders try to go by. Knowing the breed standard can help you determine if you can live successfully with a Siberian Husky. They are certainly not the right dog for everyone.

According to reliable sources on Siberian Husky information (owners and rescue organizations), Huskies are quiet, serious dogs who make very bad guard dogs. They need a lot of exercise or they will rip your house up. They need to see a point in obeying any command. This is a dog that can think for his or herself. You can’t be wimpy around these dogs or they will boss you about. You might need professional training with a Siberian Husky. They are not recommended for first time dog owners.

If you plan on showing your Siberian Husky be extremely careful about where you purchase your puppy. Finding Siberian Husky information is as easy as searching the Internet.

Shar Peis are the really wrinkly dogs from China that were all the rage in the 1980′s. They’d been around for centuries in China, but the Western world didn’t get their own Shar Peis until then. It has been suspected that the Shar Peis that were sold to North Americans were of far inferior stock than their kin in China. The gene pool in North America is very small, so finding a healthy puppy is rare.

These are big, muscular dogs that often tip the scales at fifty to sixty pounds. They were originally bred for dog fighting, so their personalities are far different than most other breeds of dogs. They are single person dogs and usually do not get on well with other dogs, but usually do well with children. They have strong wills to match their strong bodies. These are not dogs for the first time dog owner, for those with physical problems, or those with a submissive nature.
The breed standard for Shar Peis (also called Chinese Shar Peis) described the ideal Shar Pei as standoffish. They should act superior, as if they know they are worth a lot more money than you are. This is not a breed that eagerly greets strangers or easily wags his tail. However, they can be affectionate and playful with their people, usually preferring one family member above the rest. Puppies need to be introduced to other dogs and other people very early in life in order for them not to be aggressive.

The Shar Pei is thought to be descended from the Chow Chow, and, like the Chow Cow, has a blue-black colored tongue (the only breeds of dog to have this quirk). They are incredibly wrinkly when born (as puppies are kind of wrinkly anyway) and they tend to loose most of their body wrinkles as they mature. They usually retain a lot of wrinkles around the head. Their skin is usually loose.
There is some strange Shar Pei information floating around, especially on the web, so you have to select your dog or puppy very carefully. Shar Peis need a lot of exercise – at least a vigorous half hour walk a day – but need little grooming. There are three kinds of coat lengths, only two of which are recognized by the American Kennel Club. These coats consist of the short “horse coat”, the longer “brush coat” and the very rare “bear coat”, which has hair longer than one inch.

Only solid colored coats are permissible by the American Kennel Club, which means there are a lot of parti-colored and flower colored pureblood Shar Peis in North America looking for homes. They are solid and square dogs that are built a lot like Chow Chows. Their heads are usually large, but some average sized heads are permissible. Their chest is broad like a Rottweiler’s with the forelegs spread widely apart. Their tails curl over the back.

The Shar Pei is hard to breed properly, as the breeding lines have dwindled. This author hopes to one day publish a book about rescue dogs, including the most up to date Shar Pei information.

It is unfortunate that so many Mastiff dogs are abandoned and abused. These gentle giants crave companionship and are great family dogs. Fortunately there are those who love this breed enough to establish a Mastiff rescue location for those dogs which have been found stray, abused, neglected, abandoned, or whose owners realized they could not care for them.
Most Mastiff rescue locations are dedicated to finding a new loving permanent home for these neglected pups. Some locations accept all types of Mastiffs while others specialize in a particular Mastiff breed such as English Mastiffs or Neapolitan Mastiffs. The number of Mastiffs needing rescue seems to be on the rise. These large dogs have been found abandoned at pet motels, hillsides, streets, and dropped off at shelters. Sometimes a dog is placed at a rescue location because the owner finds that he can no longer provide a home for his Mastiff pet.
Non-profit rescue locations appreciate any donations made by other Mastiff dog lovers to help in the rescue, rehabilitation, and placement of abandoned Mastiffs.
If you find that you can no longer care for your Mastiff dog, please surrender it to a local Mastiff rescue location.
Adopt a rescued Mastiff dog and you will have a life long friend.

A Boston Terriers magnificent nature and uncanny intelligence makes them a perfect dog for families, or individuals who love affectionate and loving dogs. The Boston Terrier is a well mannered gentle breed, which is why they earned the nickname of being an American gentleman.

Boston Terrier require a lot of time and affection, they hate being alone. In fact interactive playtime is considered an exercise for them, they like it when you give them genuine interest. Long walks are sufficient for their exercise needs. They are however sensitive to extreme temperatures, so they should not be over exerted as they may overheat.

You have to provide the right environment for a Boston Terrier. They require a lot of attention and affection. They are very friendly and sociable to children, the elderly and even to strangers. Boston Terriers have the tendency of being too friendly and may go off with strangers, so make sure that you provide a safe and secure place for him.
The other thing that’s great about Boston Terriers is that they only need long walks and interactive playtime, so you won’t need a lot of space for them to exercise. The downside is that since they are very friendly, they have the tendency to go off even with strangers. That is why it is a good idea to keep them in a safe and tenable environment.

The Boston Terrier, like other small snout dogs are called a Brachycephalic breed. That is why they have tiny nostrils, a narrow trachea and long palates. Because of these features Boston Terriers usually snore, and reverse sneeze. Their stomachs are sensitive and they are prone to intestinal gas.

If you don’t have a Boston Terrier yet, you better be sure that you really want one because they need a lot of time and affection. Boston Terriers hate being left alone. They should be fed twice a day for them to get good nutrition and the food must be dry to prevent tooth decay.
Because Boston Terriers have short hair, they are very easy to groom. They need combing with a soft bristled brush every day. The face should be wiped with a clean damped cloth daily and bathes are only given when necessary. Their eyes and ears should be checked daily for ear grass and ticks. Their nails should also be clipped regularly.

A Boston Terrier is a very loving and affectionate breed. They hate being alone. Boston Terriers love being part of the family. They are highly inquisitive, and love to please which makes them easy to train. Regrettably a Boston Terrier can be a little difficult to house break.

Boston Terriers have come a long way. It is now one of the top breeds that the American Kennel Club recognizes. So many families decide that this is the right dog for them because of its magnificent nature and uncanny intelligence. Even singles want this breed of dog because it makes for excellent company to cheer you up.

The Boston Terrier was inducted by the AKC in the 1800’s. It originated in Boston, Mass. Rescue centers, and the American Kennel Club can give you advice on Boston Terrier information

The Golden Retriever is a wonderful dog for a family to own. It has terrific qualities, like being people-friendly, having a great sense of smell (leading to its being used as a narcotics-sniffing dog for law enforcement), hunting ability, confidence and a strong sense of loyalty. They became a breed as a mix of several sporting breeds plus some bloodhound.

Originally, a Scotsman named Sir Dudley Majoribanks experimented by crossing a Retriever that had a wavy coat with a Tweed Water Spaniel that was yellow. The offspring from them were then crossed with an Irish Setter and a Bloodhound that was sandy-colored. The result from this mixing was the Golden Retriever, as we know it today. The breed was officially recognized in Great Britain in 1913. It is now one of the most popular breeds of dog around the world. Families enjoy their good qualities, and they are also used in many other ways because of their tracking ability and great sense of smell.
Best if they are a mid-gold color with no white patches, the Golden Retriever is a mid-size, well-proportioned dog. They learn easily, especially when young, and it is best to obedience train them from when they are puppies rather than try to fix bad habits once they are older. They can be highly trained, however, and that makes them very useful for law enforcement, with tracking or finding narcotics, but also very useful as guide dogs for the disabled. They are also being used more as a rescue dog.

They do have a lot of energy, but that energy must be guided, as Golden Retrievers will get into mischief if they are left alone for too long or if they don’t get enough exercise. If they are trained while young, however, they can be taught to be gentle with people and to signal the approach of a stranger. They also love to swim and can be taught to do many tricks to please their humans.
Those who have Golden Retrievers need to keep in mind that their pet needs several things in order to be a happy pet. They need to remember their dog needs obedience training, plenty of exercise, and loving attention from their owner. The obedience training helps their pet behave. It is easier for the pup to learn good behavior right from the start than to try to unlearn bad habits, like jumping on furniture or barking at everything it sees. The exercise will help their pet stay actively stimulated by its environment, so that it doesn’t exhibit boredom behavior, like digging holes and ruining furniture. The Golden Retriever also needs positive attention. As a breed, they are typically eager to please, and love to get accolades from their owners. They can be taught to do tricks fairly easily, which their owner can enjoy and encourage, along with encouraging other positive behaviors.

The Golden Retriever is a great family dog, though its natural abilities also lend them to use in law enforcement and as guide dogs for the disabled. They are good at swimming, hunting, tracking, rescue and they are easily trained and love to be with people and other dogs.

It has been said that the German Shepherd dog (often called Alsatian) act the way all human beings are supposed to act. They are incredibly loyal, highly intelligent and brave. They have been bred for centuries not only to interact with mankind, but also to be an essential life partner. Throughout the world, German Shepherd dogs herd sheep, rescue disaster victims, tackle criminals, guide the blind and star in movies.

But if German Shepherd dogs are so great, how come so many wind up in animal shelters? These incredible animals are abandoned by the thousands every year, not because they have something wrong with them, but that their previous owners lacked the basic German Shepherd information on what life is like with this special breed. If you are considering getting a German Shepherd, please take into consideration what life with a Shepherd is like before you get the dog or puppy.
Daily life with a German Shepherd should include a lot of interaction and fuss with your family and your dog. They love to be in the center of the action and are strong enough to force their way to the center of the action if not supervised. Keeping the dog exercised, including games and playing in the yard will help to keep his or her energy levels down. German Shepherds are not vicious by nature, but they can play rough, just like puppies do.

You will need to brush your German Shepherd every day to keep out tangles and to keep shedding to a minimum. Most German Shepherds have thick, double layer coats, although there are many with single layer coats. Bathing the German Shepherd Dog too often can result in shedding and dandruff production beyond belief so only bathe when absolutely necessary. Train your dog to be still when brushed and do it after exercise.
German Shepherd dogs are highly trainable, providing they get regular exercise and aren’t overfed. Too much food for a German Shepherd is like giving too much sugar and caffeine to a child – they can’t help being a bit hyper afterwards. They are also more trainable and calmer is you have them spayed or neutered. This also cuts down in incidences of wandering, aggression and cancers of the reproductive organs. Leave the breeding of German Shepherds to the experts.

Another point not usually touted in German Shepherd information from the AKC is that they often have health problems. The German Shepherd Rescue of North Carolina has estimated that care of a German Shepherd Dog costs about three thousand dollars per year, and German Shepherds live into their teens. If you take on a German Shepherd be committed to taking care of them financially as well as with affection, proper grooming, diligent training and proper nutrition.

The Internet offers hundreds of articles on dogs, including quite a few about German Shepherd dogs. Writing a book on dog care for newbies, including a large section on German Shepherd information could sell a million copies.

There’s a very popular YouTube video featuring a Golden Retriever that’s made a big hit all over the world. The video was taken during the relatively new sport of canine freestyle dancing. The dog danced John Travolta’s part very convincingly to the song “You’re The One That I Want” with the owner, dressed as Olivia Newton-John. This shows you what a Golden Retriever – show quality or pet quality – is capable of.

But Golden Retrievers are not born wonder dogs. They need time, effort and lots of praise in order to fully blossom into the great dogs they can be. You also need a good sense of humor and a willingness to let the house get a bit messy. You need to learn as much Golden Retriever information as you possibly can before, during and after you bring your dog home. The best places to get Golden Retrievers with great personalities are from breeders and Golden Retriever rescue centers. Never get a dog from a pet store.
There are some negatives to living with Golden Retrievers that you should prepare yourself for. These will be mild for some people and calamities for others. Golden Retrievers need daily grooming, or they get matted. They shed more than other breeds. It has been said they have more of a doggy odor than other breeds. They also were bred to be Retrievers (hence the name), which means they have a compulsion to pick things up in their mouths and carry them to your home. This can mean they find a big dead rat and carry in into your living room, fully expecting to be showered with praise.

Golden Retrievers, because of their popularity, have been victims of their own success. Some unscrupulous breeders more concerned about how many puppies they can sell as opposed to how healthy the puppies are have over bred them. There is an effort of Golden Retriever breeders to try and reverse health problems that can be passed on through genes. Just to be on the safe side, expect your Golden Retriever to have skin problems, hip dysplasia, eye problems and heart problems.
You can greatly help your Golden Retriever’s behavior, trainability and health by getting your dog spayed or neutered. The dog will already be neutered if you adopt from a Golden Retriever rescue center. Neutering makes the dog more relaxed, more willing to accept people as the ones in charge and less likely to run away in search of love. Neutered dogs also tend to live longer and get less cancer.

Golden Retrievers are prone to some health conditions, so you should be prepared for such a possibility. They are often prone to eye problems, hip dysplasia, heart conditions and itchy skin problems. However, a Golden Retriever will usually not be so terrified of going to the vet like other dogs. There is a big effort by responsible Golden Retriever breeders to weed out all unhealthy Golden Retrievers from the breeding population. On average, Golden Retrievers live to be between ten and twelve years old.

The Golden Retriever is one of the most popular pets for families. Golden Retriever information can be found many places, such as the local library and the Internet.

A career in dog training and dog exercising is a highly satisfactory one especially if you love dogs. There are a few types of dog training careers to choose from. There is obedience training, service training and others.

Types of Dog Training Careers

Obedience training usually involves a dog training career in teaching dogs to obey basic commands and to stay quite and composed. This kind of dog training career is very lucrative especially if your reputation as great trainer precedes you. Obedience training is an essential part of getting a dog as a pet especially if you live in the city. Your dog must learn not to be too noisy and troublesome when you go put to work.

Another type of dog training career is training dogs to be service or working dogs. Working dogs are basically those dogs that can be relied on to take on jobs for their human owners. This dog training career has many variations which depend on what you will be teaching the dogs. Dogs that help people with disabilities are working dogs that are taught to safely guide their owners through busy streets and buildings.

Other types of dog training career variations for working dogs are for rescue missions, shepherding, locating contraband and many others. Working dogs are very necessary for our well being and progress. Dogs that are trained for helping people with disabilities are especially chosen and trained specially for this. A dog training career in this field is very rewarding because you get to be with lovable dogs and know that they are helping people when they go out. Guard dogs are trained to attack when an order is given and shepherding dogs are taught to look after flocks.

A dog training career can focus on any given field of dog training and dog clipping. There are many to choose from and all are rewarding. It is basically easy to train dogs since they are wiling to please their trainers and owners. This attitude is what makes dogs very easy to train. There are not a lot of dogs that are difficult to train although there are breeds that are somewhat more stubborn than others.

A dog training career may not be a lucrative one but it is an emotionally rewarding one. There are many centers that offer dog training career opportunities for those who wish to learn. All you need is to be interested in learning and to love dogs.

For one reason or another, you are thinking of adding a Siberian Husky to your life. Perhaps you know of a family member who has to give up his or her dog, or came across a Siberian Husky in a local animal rescue public function. Siberian Huskies are incredibly beautiful dogs that perhaps you’ve admired from afar. But do you have what it takes to become a good Siberian Husky owner?

Siberian Huskies are not like most other dogs. They do not do anything and everything to please their owners. They are the lawyers of the dog world – they won’t do a thing until they see how it benefits them. However, they love company, especially among other dogs, but also have been known to get along well with children and other animals. They are usually wary with strangers and even tend to shy away from strange dogs. They are more serious in nature and not very silly.
You need to be aware of some Siberian Husky information before you bring one of these magnificent dogs home. They shed. They do very badly in hot, humid climates. They do very badly with the first time dog owner. They do very badly with timid people or the physically impaired. These dogs do not make good watchdogs, although they do bark on occasion. These dogs like to dig in your yard, so get used to it.

Siberian Huskies were bred to pull heavy sleds across ice and snow for hours at a stretch. Consequentially, they need plenty of exercise and at least a half hour walk every day in order to be anywhere near trainable. They need toys and a purpose to life so they do not get bored. Heaven help you if your Siberian Husky gets bored. They are escape artists and will destroy doors to get outside and find something to do.
Siberian Huskies, if given proper exercise and persistent handling, can become very obedient dogs. If they get spayed or neutered, this also helps them to stay in a juvenile state of mind and look to you as their parents for leadership. Siberian Huskies need to be persuaded to do anything, but once you’ve persuaded them, they do it. You cannot force these dogs. They will become dangerous otherwise.

In the cult movie classic, The Lost Boys, there is a beautiful Siberian Husky named Nanook. Nanook protects his young (and stupid) master from vampires. The moviegoer learns later that the young, stupid master is quite a nice guy and is concerned for not only destroying all vampires, but taking care of his dog. And they showed Nanook enjoying a big back yard as well as living in a house. That is a good way to think of the personality of a Siberian Husky.

Adopt a Siberian Husky and save a homeless dog. There would be a lot fewer abandoned Huskies if owners took the time to learn Siberian Husky information before buying a puppy.

The Rottweiler was registered by the American Kennel Club in 1935 and is classified in the working dog group. This breed has been renowned historically for its ability to guard, protect and herd. Unfortunately, the Rottweiler dog breed in recent years has developed the reputation of being aggressive and prone to violence. A large, strong dog, the Rottweiler can certainly be a formidable opponent. Its ancestry may help explain how it developed its good and bad reputation.

The modern day Rottweiler was named after Rottweil, Germany where it gained support in the early 1900s. Prior to that date, Rottweilers have an uncertain lineage though the common belief is that they descended from the large Roman mastiff dog almost two thousand years ago. Even then, early forms of Rottweiler were known for their skill in protection and military service. The inherent intelligence and strength of the breed allow these dogs to be trained in many tasks and the Roman army utilized Rottweilers in conquering Europe. The protective nature of the breed can manifest itself in aggression if Rottweilers are not trained from an early age. Some owners take advantage of that aggression or mistreat dogs so that these tendencies come out.
The personality and appearance of the Rottweiler dog breed make it unique.
Surprisingly, one of the first adjectives used to describe the Rottweiler’s personality is calm. The breed is known to be an excellent, relaxed family pet. In fact, a calm, courageous and confident temperament is the breed standard according to the American Kennel Club, which registered the Rottweiler in 1935. Other personality traits include loyalty to family but aloofness with strangers, intelligence, work ethic and self-assuredness. All of these traits assist the Rottweiler dog in performing the tasks it does best such as herding, protecting, tracking, competing, and performing police and military work.

The Rottweiler’s strong physical traits also define the breed. All purebred Rottweiler’s have distinctive coloring with an all black short coat with brown markings in specific areas of the cheeks, muzzle, paws and legs. A strong and large dog, the Rottweiler is muscular and has a broad head and chest. Its tail is generally docked to give its body a longer, more streamlined appearance. Rottweilers are easily differentiated from other dog breeds due to their physical and personality traits.
It is important to clarify that the natural temperament of the Rottweiler dog breed leans more toward calm than aggression. A potential Rottweiler buyer should research the breed and make sure he can handle a large, active dog before buying. However, a buyer should not be more afraid to buy a Rottweiler than any other dog breed. Steps a buyer can take to ensure he purchases a physically and emotionally healthy Rottweiler include researching the breed first and know what breed standard traits to look for, research breeders to find an ethical breeder of purebred Rottweilers, visit the breeder kennel to see how Rottweiler puppies are raised, obtain pedigree information to determine lineage, obtain health information to ensure the Rottweiler has been evaluated for genetic problems, ask the breeder to provide Rottweiler information, specifically on training and discipline, and lastly make sure the buyer’s household is appropriate to meet the Rottweiler’s social and activity needs

With many dog breeds, an alternative to buying from a breeder is buying a purebred from a rescue center. Because of Rottweilers’ tendency toward aggression if they have suffered maltreatment, buying from a rescue center may not be a good option with this breed.

The personality of the Rottweiler has received a bad reputation. Aggression and violence are not typical of every Rottweiler dog. In this article Rottweiler information is provided. The behavioral traits of the Rottweiler dog breed are also explained.

The Pomeranian is a popular breed, and no wonder. Most dog breeds in the toy group make wonderful pets. Some domesticated dogs were bred to provide some kind of labor service to humankind. Dogs like the Newfoundland, Saint Bernard, and Doberman Pinscher provide useful services like water rescues, snow rescues and property guard duty. Appropriately enough, these dogs are all members of the working group.

Dogs in the sporting group work at hunting and field trials. These dogs include spaniels, setters, pointers, and retrievers like the American Water Spaniel, the English Setter, the German Wirehaired Pointer, and the Curly-Coated Retriever.

The hound group works by tracking prey, either by scent or by sheer stamina. Scent hounds include the Bloodhound, the Basset Hound and the Beagle. While the Greyhound, Saluki and Whippet can outrun nearly any prey animal over the long haul.

The Pomeranian, in contrast to these hard workers, was bred to be a lap dog, a friend and constant companion.
Pomeranians are confident to the point of cockiness, secure in their position as faithful sidekick to the leader of the pack. Your Pomeranian dog will command your attention, so be ready to provide it. These little dogs have giant personalities. They are alert, intelligent, inquisitive and animated.

Pomeranians become extremely attached to their masters, and can be very protective in situations where they perceive their master is being threatened. Because of their protective nature, Pomeranian dogs tend to be suspicious of strangers and treat new people with caution, and they often voice these suspicions by yapping incessantly when meeting new people, especially on their home turf.

Such a strong-willed dog requires a confident owner who is not afraid to take charge of the dog and show it who is boss. If the Pomeranian’s cocky behavior gets out of hand, it can lead to neurotic behaviors like biting, snapping, moodiness and general unpleasantness.
Many Pomeranians get along well with other dogs that are household companions, but they are territorial and will try to chase strange dogs, even dogs that are substantially bigger than they are. With appropriate training, the Pomeranian dog can be an excellent pet. Socialize the Pomeranian early on to avoid his developing bad habits like sharp or shrill barking. Start housebreaking at an early age to get the best results.

The majority of Pomeranians, puppies and adult dogs alike, can be trained and socialized to be loyal, manageable companions. To be sure, your Pomeranian will provide you with endless entertainment and more than enough companionship to ward off loneliness.

If you decide to get a puppy, ask your breeder to suggest an obedience trainer. If you are getting an older dog or a rescue Pomeranian, spend some time with the dog to see what its temperament is like, and seek professional training help if you run into obedience issues.

A devoted lap dog, the Pomeranian is a loyal, protective companion and makes an excellent pet for an elderly person. Breeders and trainers can provide owners with Pomeranians information that will help them control any behavior problems that arise.

You need to do your part in this friendship, as well, in order for it to work out. You have to be patient, have a sense of humor and learn all you can about the German Shepherd breed. You have to be committed to exercising your German Shepherd dog every day, with a walk and play. They need to be active, or else they get a bit hyperactive. They also need regular trips to the vet for inoculations and check ups. Purebred German Shepherds are more inclined to have genetically caused problems than many other breeds of dog. You must be willing to pay any and all medical costs for your friend.
German Shepherds are indeed powerful dogs that can take quite a large chunk out of you – when they are given the command to. They will also attack if they think anyone in their family is being threatened. There are some German Shepherds that, in the presence of an intruder, will run and hide rather than attack, but they don’t get much press. They have to be trained to attack before they would ever attack another human being.

Since German Shepherd dogs are so large (they average about 75 pounds), they often do not know their own strength. Ever watch puppies playing? They wrestle quite fiercely and often bite softly. German Shepherd dogs will think you want to play like a puppy – very roughly. This can cause unintentional (but still painful) injury. It is important that your German Shepherd be trained and regularly exercised in order to prevent any accidental injuries.
A German Shepherd dog needs regular exercise, attention and grooming. Getting them spayed or neutered will also not only lengthen their life span, but also make them more willing to pay attention to you. German Shepherds really are not suitable for apartment life, unless they get a lot of outdoor exercise. They learn to leash train very well (and can often be voice trained), whether their owners are walking, jogging, riding a bike or riding a horse.

Hopefully, armed with this German Shepherd information about their basic personality, you will know if a German Shepherd dog is right for your home and lifestyle. There are variations in each dog’s individual personality, as there are with each dog’s physical traits. Some are more timid than others. Some are more serious than others. Some seem more psychic than others. But they need a lot of activity and attention in order to really become a member of your family.

It takes a special person to adopt a German Shepherd and do a lot of research about the breed to ensure proper care. New dog owners should know basic German Shepherd information before bringing home a German Shepherd rescue dog.

African lovebirds are famous for making excellent and exotic pets. Smaller than other parrots, the babies are the same size as the adults so there are no surprises after you purchase a baby lovebird. They come in a huge array of vibrant colors and often have sweet and friendly temperaments.

They do need a great deal of care and attention, particularly if you own one lovebird rather than a pair. Although noise is a factor, African lovebirds are not normally excessively loud. They often attempt to mimic sounds but are not likely to talk, although no bird is guaranteed to learn how to talk. They require large, usually expensive cages and training can take up a lot of your time.

They are definitely good companions particularly if you like the sound of chirping birds. They have quite a long lifespan so caring for Afircan lovebirds is a real commitment. Afircan lovebirds can be trained to stay in a certain area and even perform basic tricks. They are a good family pet and easily endear themselves to people of all ages. Before deciding on an African lovebird, it is essential that you are fully prepared for the amount of care involved.

Caring for African lovebirds

African lovebirds make fine pets but they do require a lot of attention and contact from their owners; sadly, many people are not prepared for this kind of dedication. Although some of these birds are rescued, most are hand raised from birth allowing the owner to create a complete bond with the bird who will more than likely learn to depend on their owner.

In fact, many people compare the care of lovebirds to that of a child who has individual emotional needs from their caregiver. They need large cages to give them plenty of space and regular exercise outside of their cages. This free flying around the home comes with safety risks and the owners must make sure that the area is hazard and risk free.

Lovebirds can eat bird food concoctions but they also need fresh fruit and vegetables regularly. The biggest problem with lovebirds can be that it is very easy for them to become depressed and withdrawn if they do not get enough contact. People often make the mistake of spoiling lovebirds when they are a new pet, leaving the bird expecting that same kind of constant attention on a regular basis. It is better for both the bird and the owner to set aside a certain amount of time to spend together everyday. This way, the bird?s needs are fulfilled and they stay happy and healthy.

The following article is from a series of cat care articles and tips on exotic cat breeds …

The prospect of quite exciting. Kittens are all so cute that it might be difficult to choose from the many breeds of cats available. Of course, there are the standard Persians and Siamese, but what if you want a feline companion with a more exotic look? You could choose the Abyssinian, with its sleek cougar-like similarities, or you could look at the Pixie Bob.

Pixie Bobs may have a wild look to them, but you couldn’t ask for a more charming, lovable companion. This breed has a reputation for being the Golden Retrievers of the feline world. These cats, first bred in the Pacific Northwestern United States, were thought to be the product of a Bobcat and a feral cat. DNA results have yet to prove any bloodline relation, though. The only “fierceness” this cat has is in its loyalty to its owner and family. Breeders have found that after a Pixie Bob reaches the age of one or two, they don’t adapt well to new owners.

The Pixie Bob is a medium to large cat that some breeders describe as “big boned”. They have spotted markings and black tufts on their ears. Their tails are either short or full length. If you’re planning on showing your Pixie Bob, make sure that the breeder hasn’t had the tail docked (cut). A docked tail is not acceptable in the show ring. Pixie Bobs also have huge paws that are “straight toed” or “poly toed”. A Pixie Bob with straight toes has paws with the usual number of toes on it (five in the front and four in the back). A poly-toed Pixie Bob will have more than the usual number of toes, maybe six on the front paws instead of five. Unlike most cats, Pixie Bobs take 3 years to reach maturity as opposed to the usual one year. The males can reach 22 pounds and the females top out at 16 pounds.

If you are going to purchase a Pixie Bob, make sure to buy one from a reputable cattery. Any good cattery will allow you to make a personal visit to meet the parents and siblings of your kitten. Don’t trust anyone who tells you visiting isn’t permissible. A Pixie Bob with quality bloodlines and papers will cost anywhere in the range of $600 to $1,500. The price largely depends on how closely the kitten resembles the standards of the breed. Kittens bred specifically to be show cats will start at $1,500 and the price rises from there. Some catteries will include the cost of altering (spaying or neutering) in their price, and the surgery will be carried out before you receive your kitten. If you can’t go to the cattery in person, inquire as to how they ship their cats and find out how much the shipping charges are. Don’t be surprised if there is an additional fee upwards of $300 for shipping.

You can expect to sign a contract for the protection of the cattery, the kitten, and you. A contract outlines what the cattery will be responsible for (such as a 72-hour guarantee on the health of the kitten and what records the cattery’s veterinarian will provide), refunds, replacements, and expenses. The contract will also inform you of the buyer’s responsibilities once the kitten leaves the possession of the cattery. Some other things you can expect to find on the contract are holding fees (if you request that a specific kitten be held for you), a promise from you to give the kitten a good home and reasonable care, and advertising rights (the cattery might want to use pictures of your kitten for marketing promotions).

Now that you have decided that you would like to find a Pixie Bob of your own, where can you get one? It’s highly unlikely that you will be able to find one in a cat shelter, although there are Pixie Bob rescues out there. While most of the Pixie Bob catteries are located in Washington State in the United States, you can find them all over the US and in the UK as well. The International Cat Association (tica.org/html/english/home/) has listings for Pixie Bob catteries and practically every other breed of cat out there.
